Game Boy Genesis Pre-Order
|
Via Incube8 Games: Genesis (GB). It's only slightly confusing - this is a game for the Game Boy system, but it's called Genesis. It's a shooter that looks a bit like Solar Striker, and the fancy boxed edition includes a sticker sheet and is $44.99.
There's a video showing it off, and it's not making any mention of a ROM. It is currently expected in September.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Autobot Jazz
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A classic! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Autobot Jazz is one of those figure's that's almost impossibly perfect, but some have reported the roof tearing off during placement of aftermarket stickers. (Me, I've had no problems.) It does a great job bringing the animation model to a surprisingly fairly-priced toy. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Star Wars Review: The Child (6-Inch Value Figure, Black Logo Line Look)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Child (6-Inch Value Figure, Black Logo Line Look). It's a 6-inch scale figure that sells for under $5 at Walmart, but it's also about 1/2-inch bigger than The Black Series The Child. And half the price. For your money, this is one of the better values out there for a figure of this particular character - and we'll look at his Mandalorian companion later this week, too. Read the whole review.

Review: Tonka GoBots Road Ranger Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A classic! The Tonka GoBots Road Ranger Action Figure has been sitting in a box for a while - and he's in spectacular condition for a toy with die-cast metal parts that has been ignored for a while. He's like Optimus Prime, bt not! So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Star Wars Review: R8-Series Astromech Droid Orange with White Panels
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R8-Series Astromech Droid Orange with White Panels. Via Philip Summers on Twitter: Metroid: Presented by Hand-Drawn Game Guides will hopefully land in time for Metroid's 35th Anniversary. In the meantime, here's a look at Brinstar West, the starting area of the game..

Star Wars Review: The Mandalorian (The Retro Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Mandalorian (The Retro Collection). Because the 1980s never ended for some of us, Hasbro made The Mandalorian figures that look like Kenner releases. From 1981. I'm not quite sure why they went with a vinyl cape for a post-ROTJ release, but it's still neat with bright colors and two great blasters. If you see it, especially for ten bucks, and you're old? This is a must-buy figure. Read the whole review.

Transformers Battle Across Time Grimlock and Mirage
|
Via Amazon (and this is an affiliate link): Transformers Toys Generations Kingdom Battle Across Time Collection Deluxe WFC-K40 Autobot Mirage & Maximal Grimlock, Age 8 and Up, 5.5-inch (Amazon Exclusive). Thats a mouthful.
WhThe $52.99 price tag is consistent with the price increase coming across all Hasbro brands shortly on their $20 price point items - so $20 toys are about to be roughly $23, while the $30 toys are expected to stay the same. (For now. But they'll go up at some point, I'm sure.)
Grimlock is a redeco of Dinobot based loosely on the toy from the 1990s, but now with a new head. Mirage is opaque and allegedly an Earth mode this time, with the letters "ORC" on it, clearly letting you all know what a big fan he is of the Oh Sees album.
Like many of Amazon's recent pre-orders, this one is a long ways out - November 1, about just under six months from now. But at least this time Grimlock has a sword.

Star Wars Review: Han Solo (6-Inch Value Figure, Solo: A Star Wars Story Line Look)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Han Solo (6-Inch Value Figure, Solo: A Star Wars Story Line Look). This $5 figure was made in 2018, but I never saw them in stores until recently - for all I know they were sitting in a warehouse before being sold in the USA at Five Below stores. They were available internationally, and also seen in board room presentations if you were invited to the right meetings. Read the whole review.

Star Wars Review: 3PO Protocol Droid (Blue, Droid Factory)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: 3PO Protocol Droid (Blue, Droid Factory). This blue droid is sold in parts bins exclusively in theme parks, which may as well mean eBay. The blue head and torso include unique painted stripe patterns, the significance of which I actually do not know - but it's blue and it looks cool, and it reminds me of the blue concept C-3POs we once saw in Tomart's Action Figure Digest. In other words, this Disney figure is sort of like a Kenner prototype we assumed we'd never get, but it's also exactly like D-0T from The Clone Wars. Read the whole review.

Game Boy Game Link Cable "Warp Pipe" Now Exists for Online Play
|
Via RetroRGB and elsewhere: USB to GB Link Cable Adapter (Kit). It leets you connect to a Raspberry Pi Pico and play Tetris online. For reals. I wonder if they're going to make it so you can "print" things from your Game Boy on your PC? That would be handy for you Game Boy Camera owners.
There is a video showing the whole thing too, and if you have some tech skill it seems like a fun little project. A Game Boy can talk to a game server and do some matchmaking. It's pretty neat.

Star Wars Review: Cara Dune (The Retro Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Cara Dune (The Retro Collection). This is a good one - she can hold her blasters, stand, sit, and generally look like an old Kenner figure with a far better paint job than we would be likely to see in the 1980s. Unlike some other late-era Kenner women figures, she also has a neck. (Look at Kea Moll.) She's also a little short - but still a good figure. Mostly I'm just happy there's no vinyl cape to get in the way of vehicle interaction. Read the whole review.

At Last: Sega Genesis Mega Man: The Wily Wars Cartridge in the USA
|
Via Retro-Bit: Mega Man The Wily Wars pre-orders May 21 through June 21.
It's a delay after a delay, because after not coming to the USA in the 1990s, Retro-Bit announced this very reissue in 2019. So it's been a while.
In the USA in the 1990s, this game was exclusive to the Sega Channel - but it saw release overseas on cartridge. This Collector's Edition includes the game on a blue cartridge, trading cards, stickers, a poster, and other stuff you don't need nor necessarily want. But at $69.99, it's not bad. If you consider that a brand-new Sega Genesis game may have cost $50 in 1994, adjusted for inflation, this should be closer to $90. Of course, it costs a lot less to manufacture a game these days (and pirate copies have littered Etsy and eBay for years for much less) but hey - they're making new cartridges.

|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,816: Kuiil (The Retro Collection). This Ugnaught looks a little bit different from the vintage one, and takes a few liberties with the rubbery head from the TV show. It's still cool, and a lot more colorful than the previous figures. NES Kickstarter - Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King
|
Via Kikcstarter: Anguna: Scourge of the Goblin King - A brand-new action adventure game for the NES! It's already funded completely and the limited edition sold out within the first couple of hours. A boxed cartridge is $60, a bare cart is $50, and the ROM is $10.
It looks a lot like The Legend of Zelda, and based on the developer's work on a similar game for the Game Boy Advance this looks pretty good. The 6502 Collective previously published Trophy, so I assume this is also going to be pretty great.

Future Game Boy Color Kickstarter - Planet Hop

Star Wars Review: LOM-Series Protocol Droid (Silver, Droid Factory)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: LOM-Series Protocol Droid (Silver, Droid Factory). Since they had the body, they repainted it, and we got some pretty nifty variations on the old Bounty Hunter droid. Star Wars Review: IG-11 (The Retro Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: IG-11 (The Retro Collection). Because the 1980s never ended for some of us, Hasbro made figures that look like old Kenner releases. IG-11 looks a lot like IG-88, only softer, missing a few details, and not quite as perfect as gripping the blasters - but it's still pretty great. I also appreciate they elected to go with the "Credit Collection" red coloring to set it apart. Read the whole review.

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Child (The Retro Collection). Super HD System3 PRO for PC Engine, TurboGrafx-16
|
Via Terraonion: Super HD System3 PRO. It's an FPGA gadget that plugs in to the Turbo Booster port, giving you the ability to use RGB, S-Video, HDMI, as well as an SD card - so it supports Super CD games, SuperGrafx, and so on and so forth. In other words, it's an FPGA system that can sideload games, except you have to supply the actual system part.
The device is nearly US $300, and if that's too rich for your blood Analogue's Analogue Duo allows you to play CD-ROMs and TurboChips, but the price and release dates are unknown at press time.

NES New Release: Gold Guardian Gun Girl
|
Via Video Game Sage: Gold Guardian Gun Girl was released over the weekend, only 50 copies were produced for the first US run, and it sold out in under an hour. The game was previously sold as a Famicom game in Japan, and the available demo was pretty cool. An additional NES run is planned for those of you who missed it, which is going to be most of you. I have no idea how the Famicom runs are going in Japan right now.
It allows you to play in a mech and blow up monsters in the pursuit of gold and fuel while crawling through somewhat bland-looking dungeons - but it is a lot of fun, and the unique control scheme is a hoot. You're always shooting, with the d-pad moving the mech and the A and B buttons rotating your vehicle to aim and blast monsters. There are also 5 other controls schemes if you don't like that one... but I like that one just fine.
