New Transformers Device - A Phone
|
Via TFW2005: Transformers x au Transforming Phones Launch Crowdfunding Campaign. Like Soundwave last year, Optimus, Bumblebee, and Megatron turn in to phones and this is a crowdfunding project. Also like last year, it's entirely possible that the term crowdfunding is not being used correctly.
We don't know if they'll be sold at US conventions yet - but with San Diego's Comic-Con International and Rhode Island's HasCon, but it's a safe bet that they will make an appearance. Japanese releases will be between $50-$60, so expect a US price of $40 or more.

Star Treks DS9, Voyager Unlikely To Be Remastered
|
Via Slashfilm: Why 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' & 'Voyager' Won't Be Released in HD or on Blu-ray. Like most things, the answer is simple: economics.
The 1990s Star Trek shows were all shot on film, transferred to video, and aired on TV. The Next Generation had to be heavily reworked and remastered using the film, and that's really expensive. What's more, the show didn't sell too well and apparently there's not big money in syndication like in the old days. It's a little disappointing as the original film doesn't always last forever, so time is running out and money's already gone.

Toy Fair 2017: Transformers
|
The coverage begins! It's going to be light thanks to real-life job responsibilities conflicting with a hobby site, so hopefully you'll enjoy these brief galleries and the other stuff that'll come up over the next few days. Today we begin (but don't finish) Hasbro Transformers - there's a lot to go around. Everything looks like fun, and I don't mean that in a pithy way. Between The Last Knight, Generations, and Robots in Disguise I saw plenty that made me say "I want to play with that." That's a good thing.
We've got Generations, and Robots in Disguise today.
I'm keen on these.

Toy Fair 2017: Playskool, Medicom, DC Collectibles
|
The coverage continues! It's Hasbro Playskool - an Optimus Prime raceway, a BB-8 Battle Station, and a few more new figures are just some of the 3ish-inch figure offerings available to the preschool crowd. It's good stuff.
Also, Medicom! I saw 3 new Ultra-Detail Figure releases from The Legend of Zelda series. Check out this link to the new figures.
Last but not least, DC Collectibles. Harley Quinn and Batman owned the show, with a good healthy smattering of new movie Wonder Woman statues galore. There were even some killer prop replicas - you're going to love this stuff You'd love it more if I took more pictures of it.
With any luck we'll have a lot more tomorrow. You'd have more tonight, but the upload speed from the hotel was bad and the plane I'm on now is worse.

Toy Fair 2017: The Mighty Dump
|
The coverage ends! The TV in my airplane seat broke so you get all of these galleries today. I have one round of notes for the Hasbro panel to post soon and a couple of samples to review, but aside from that? Party's over today! Dark Horse showed off a killer new Breath of the Wild Link statue it'll be distributing - check it out!
Also, Funko! There were hundreds - if not close to a thousand - figures on display in the biggest figure booth on the show floor. As others are covering that intensely, I'm just peeking at a couple of quick highlights with Batman and Twin Peaks 3 3/4-inch action figures.
Hasbro Marvel delivered on the classic comic and big movie promises with Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man, among others. Thor: Ragnrok was largely absent.
Also, Hasbro Marvel Legends! There are a lot of props and figures, big and small, coming out from dang near everything.
Also, DC from Mattel! There were more figures, but deadlines and other meetings result in some of these things not being shot.
Hot Wheels really upped its entertainment game, with The Beatles joining Star Wars and a ton of other goodies.
While not technically Toy Fair, we stopped by the Nintendo World Store! Lots of vintage prototype Nintendo Entertainment System hardware was on display and I couldn't resist making this piece of history available on a site called 16bit.com.
Super7 brought its A-Game when it didn't even have a booth last year. Masters of the Universe retro figures are coming, with Filmation-esque creations that look like the figures you probably thought you had, but didn't.
Subscription-based direct-only Masters of the Universe Classics were also shown, including mini-comic figures and cartoon-inspired releases you'll dig.
Another expansion in M.U.S.C.L.E.! Several rumored/confirmed properties were shown including Mega Man, Shogun Warriors, and ALIENS. If you aren't digging these you have no soul.
ReAction and ReAnimated retro figures close out the look at their booth, with more Alien than you can shake a stick at - plus Planet of the Apes and more.
See you next mission!
