Nintendo-Themed Keyboard from 8BitDo

  Via 8BitDo: 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard! It's also on Amazon. The tenkeyless (ugh) gadget looks pretty amazing, and comes with giant novelty "A" and "B" buttons you can supposedly assign to anything - but also has "B" and "A" buttons on the keyboard, and I would assume they may share functionality. It boasts programmable keys, though, so we'll have to wait and see. It comes in NES and Famicom-themed colorways and is $100ish, which is a lot for a novelty keyboard - but who knows how good the functionality is? Not me, it doesn't come out until late September.
One of the most interesting features mentioned in a blurb on Retrododo: "The Dual Super Buttons connect to the keyboard via a wire, and you can connect up to four sets of super buttons." That could be fun.
I suppose this is a sensible next step after their NES-themed mouse. They look awesome and I look forward to seeing reviews before making a purchase. (Or really, waiting for a full-size model.) A few years ago Hyperkin released a Super NES-flavored Hyper Clack Tactile Mechanical Keyboard, but reviews are not great and that link on Amazon has it at a mere $55.99 at press time. You might want to skim the reviews first, I certainly kept almost buying one over the years.

New Game Boy Color The Fallen Crown Ends Today

  Via Kickstarter: The Fallen Crown - A New Metroidvania for Gameboy Color is probably over. As of my writing this, it got $63,152 which put it pretty far up its funding for stretch goals, but short of some of the final tiers.
It won't be out for a year, but it certainly looks interesting. Here's hoping it makes its scheduled release!

This is a pretty good figure - she's sort of a nobody on Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it's rare that we get a new alien with some color to her. Sure, it's another black leather Inquisitor costume, but at least you get somebody with orange skin and multiple head tails. Read the whole review.

A newish mold! The Onell Design Gauss Armor Relgost Fugitive Action Figure is making the rounds at the Onell and Toy Pizza stores, and this one sold out quickly. And it looks great. As 4-inch figures go, this has a ton of articulation and is above and beyond the previous high watermarks for articulation on a Glyos-compatible toy. Do read on, and come back Monday for more fun!

Lion's Gate Picks Up eOne from Hasbro
|
|
  Via Variety: Lionsgate Closes Deal to Acquire eOne From Hasbro for $500 Million and unsurprisingly, Hasbro's stock shot up. Is that good? It depend on how you look at it - Lion's Gate is also taking on the debt. In 2019, Hasbro Acquires Entertainment One in $4 Billion All-Cash Deal so it was probably not a fantastic business decision... minus some properties that may pay off for a while, and a couple of decent projects. Hasbro also sold off Death Row Records a few years ago for $385 million, and given that I don't know what else was carved up and sold, it might have been a decent investment on some three-dimensional chess level I don't understand.
Lion's Gate will take on non-Hasbro IP - like Yellowjackets and Naked and Afraid. Hasbro hasn't exactly had a lot of big moves with its own IP lately that turned into big things - Dungeons & Dragons delivered a fantastic movie and fan-requested cartoon figures, but it wasn't big dollars - so they'll need to come up something for next quarter. I have no idea if Hasbro is shopping for new IP or fixin' to make itself a media powerhouse through some other means, but this is, I suppose, some form of progress. It's important to try new things - Hasbro tried movies, a cable channel, and Mattel is working on a theme park in Arizona as well as movies and other outlets. You can't do the same thing forever.
Related, Funko earnings were not exactly great. I wouldn't say the bubble is bursting - lots of hardcore fans still love and buy this stuff - but it will probably be a good time for them to right-size, whatever that ultimately means. The growth era of collector toys needs some fine-tuning.

Posted 10 years ago today! The Diamond Select Battle Beasts Minimates Shadow Merk was a giveaway at Comic-Con in 2013! I ran around chasing these guys and the line just sort of lost steam when it became obvious it wasn't going to be like the old ones, or whatever reasons people had for not picking them up. Mine has been sitting on a shelf for years and, I'm a little ashamed to admit, I forgot it existed until it came time to post the "10 years ago today" review. This big Wookiee debuted at SDCC and is very similar to the mass release version, except he has a unique head, a distinct package, and a couple of exclusive weapons.   Via Kickstarter and PSCD Games: Hunter Girls - Runner for Sega Mega Drive/Genesis.
Run, jump, attack - it's pretty simple but also a little cheaper than a lot of other crowdfunded game. You can always just grab the demo too, that's free. I am maybe trying it a little too late - and on a keyboard - but I found it a little tricky as "up" jumps and "forward" activates a shield while "b" flings an arrow. But it looks nice, and the music is good, so give it a whirl. It shows you can still get a lot more out of old hardware.

Star Wars Review: Grand Inquisitor (The Retro Collection)

 Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Grand Inquisitor (The Retro Collection). This is not a figure I initially liked, but it kind of grew on me. The head looks sort of like a baby, with understated ridges. The cape drags and comes pre-wrinkled. But the lightsaber is good, and the body armor is sculpted nicely despite being in the same generic pose as most of the Hasbro Retro Collection figures. But the character was something of a dork too, so at least you won't be too upset you can't play with it very well and you can't take off the cape to get him in a ship, either. Read the whole review.

The good thing is that the figure is well-made, sturdy, and with great articulation. Unfortunately it's about as robust as the $20 Hoth Trooper, except this time, it's $34. If you can get it on sale, get two - but at full price, one may be a little pricey. Read the whole review.

Blue! The Outer Space Men Bluestar Maximilian Gravity Action Figure is pretty cheap in the context of recent Glyos and The Outer Space Men figures at fifteen bucks. You get a flip-up helmet, alternate arms, and a few nice accessories. Sure, a flagpole is a little weird without a flag, but such is life. You're here for the blue glow plastic, and once charged in the sun it glows for hours. It's pretty dim at the end, but it can go all night. You should snag one of these guys, if not this specific one, just to see it in action. Do read on, and come back Monday for more fun!

I was unaware there were still new Cantina alien names being cranked out since Disney got Star Wars, but it's still the drummer and he's still a pretty good figure with decent accessories. But also, he's the same Cantina band guy. His drum sticks are pretty long, so you can pretend they're microphones and he's hosting The Space Price Is Right. Read the whole review.

New Atari Console Plays Old Cartridges

  Via Atari: ATARI 2600+. This HDMI system emulates the 2600 and 7800, uses old controllers and cartridges, and is $129.99.
Atari says: "Enjoy your favorite Atari 2600 and 7800 games on one system! Not only does the Atari 2600+ pull double cartridge duty, it also features HDMI and widescreen mode for easy connectivity to modern TVs."
The 4-switch faux-woodgrain model is due around November 2023 and has a 10-in-1 cartridge, but you can use that shoebox of games you have too. If it plays well without any nasty lag, this seems exactly like the kind of product your Generation X-er game fan wants at a price that's not awful. They could, however, afford to put more games on it - after all, the entire 2600 library is something under a couple of megabytes.

  Via Frank Zappa: Over-Nite Sensation (50th Anniversary) 4CD + Blu-ray Audio Super Deluxe Edition. There are CDs and vinyl. Original copies of the record are semi-plentiful (I picked up a couple at thrift stores over the years), but the 4CD+Blu-Ray set is loaded with alternate takes, live tracks, demos, the whole bit. And depending on how old you are, this is most likely something for your dad (or maybe grampa) unless you were a Weird Kid too.
Do you need multiple versions of Fifty-Fifty? Probably not. Do I? Yeah, probably. It's due in November. The Hot Rats collection was pretty extensive too.

Analogue Pocket Glow in the Dark Edition

  Via Analogue: Analogue Editions: Glow in The Dark. Apparently it's in stock and ready to ship when orders go live for $249.99 on September 1 at 8:00 AM Pacific. I'm super happy with (and still regularly playing) my black one, and I don't want to fight the online crowds, so I'll probably wind up not getting one - but if it's in stock and easy to order, who knows?
The hi-def Game Boy clone is a marvel in that it plays all Game Boy console games, plus other consoles with adapter, plus even more if you side-load various cores in it. I played a lot of Atari VCS games on this thing, and homebrew demos galore, plus other odds and ends. I'd recommend one in any color you can get if you play 2D video games from the 1970s-1990s... but if it really glows for 8 hours on a charge? Maybe spring the money for this one.

Super7 Planet of the Apes Zira ReAction Figure is great for fans of old figures who want something that isn't 40 years old - she's from 2018, but fits nicely with your figures from the 1970s and 1980s.
