Unknown, Possibly Upcoming Hot Wheels Transformers Gold Bumblebee on eBay
Via eBay: Hot Wheels NEW RECOLOR Transformers Bumblebee UNSPUN and Hot Wheels Transformers Gold Bumblebee Unrivet Loose are something of a mystery. Someone added another empty entry on the Hot Wheels Wiki - so it might be that - but it could also be a test shot, or a lunchtime special, or some other factory oddity given it's coming out of Malaysia. The car seems to be a gold redeco of the yellow toy hitting stores now, but it isn't riveted together in either listing. So it could be an upcoming release, but we've also seen other leaked samples with other wheels. If nothing else, it's interesting, and you can get a good look at it on either listing.
It's more "Goldbug" than "G2 Bumblebee," as the latter would probably need to be Gold Spectraflame.
The Amazing Spider-Man x Zoids Somethingorother Coming
Via the bad place's zoids_official account: SPIDER-MAN & ZOIDS Coming Soon... Well, it's vague! I don't know if it's a kid line, a comic reprint, a high-end toy, or what, but I'm certainly interested to see what it is. Hasbro has had the right of first-refusal on a lot of Takara-Tomy toys, and they have the US Marvel license, so in theory whatever it is could come out here - but after the last round of Hasbro Zoids didn't hit actual US chain stores, probably not.
Zoids kits were sold in the USA by Tomy in the early 1980s, and also by RadioShack. Later they were marketed as RoboStrux, and in the 1990s US distribution was handled by Kenner/Hasbro. Tomy has been cycling new and old kits in its product line for ages, and the prices have historically been pretty cheap for a nifty little wind-up kit. I doubt these will be cheap, but I can dream.
While no date is given, I'm going to bet you'll see it go live for San Diego Comic-Con in a couple of weeks. That's coming, by the way, despite there being a certain air of indifference.
Via Game Informer: The Final Level: Farewell from Game Informer. One of the longest-running English-language video game publications has ceased productions after 33 years. This is the one you may have got for free from GameStop which gave it a huge leg-up, and it kept millions of gamers on top of new happenings in the business. That it managed to keep going after print basically died with fresher and freer information online is astonishing, and it's really sad to see something that predated the internet as we know it going away. Fan interest publications from the 1990s (or before) are largely absent from newsstands, also absent - actual newsstands. Retro Gamer can still be found in some US bookstores, but it's not cheap and has a focus on much older software and hardware.
The final issue has yet to hit mailboxes, so please look forward to it and we salute their ability to keep this business afloat for so long.
Via Cults3D.com: Wacky Weapons 5 Weapon Set (4mm grip) - MoTU / ToG. It's only the files, but $9 gets you the ability to make a plunger, fire hydrant mace, Leonardo's snake sword, a pizza cutter, or an axe made out of a manhole cover. It's neat!

Via Inside Gadgets: Orange FM. For $31, you get a kit that's more than a bit out of my league. Maybe you can do it - but it requires stuff that's beyond my skillset. If they ever make a ready-made model, I'd bite.
It's a silly project - you can get a portable radio for around ten bucks, or close to free at the right thrift store. It's still quite the feat, and in a way kind of surprising that we didn't have something like this back in the 1990s when we were getting InfoGenius Productivity Pak and the like.
This week:
Door to Door (Super Mario Bros. 2) - in which you plunge from the sky and enter a door.
Seek & Destroy (Kid Icarus) - In which your street-walking cheetah with a heart full of napalm defeats 4 enemies.
Goodbye, Gumal (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) - in which Link attacks a very bad juggler.
Power Grab: Missile (Metroid) - In which you can't miss(ile.)
Sink or Swim (Super Mario Bros.) - is a run through 2-2.
It's not as epic as the full run of Super Mario Bros. (with warps) but should be plenty to keep us busy for a few days.
Star Wars Review: The Mandalorian and Grogu (N-1 Starfighter Pack-Ins, Epic Hero Series)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Mandalorian and Grogu (N-1 Starfighter Pack-Ins, Epic Hero Series). Since the figures are pretty much identical to previous releases, and the pair is bundled with a new jetpack and the new N-1 starfighter, you get two for one today. It's a good overall set for the money, assuming you want the ship, and you most likely do want the ship. Read the whole review.
Review: Mattel Hot Wheels Action Pack Scum Chums Hot Seat and Sudzster
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Old! This Mattel Hot Wheels Action Pack Scum Chums Hot Seat and Sudzster is a set from 1999, but it stands out as being one of few sets as having removable figures. The Hot Seat was sold separately as a figure-less car for years, while the Sudzster is exclusive to this set. The figures are also exclusive to the set. Secondary market prices are all over the map, and while I wouldn't pay $100 for this set - nor did I have to - I did pay a healthy mark-up and do not regret it. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Review: Outer Space Men Bluestar Orbitron Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Glows overnight! This Outer Space Men Bluestar Orbitron Action Figure, when charged properly, can glow for hours - it may be dim at the end, but glowing is glowing. It's a nice figure with blue paint, and you may have several other colorways of this guy. But do they glow blue? Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Products from the early days of any mega-franchise are fascinating, and these are no exception. Before there was a style guide with an approved, consistent approved look for each creature, you got artistic interpretations. These all seem pretty close to what you saw on the Japanese box art, which is a far cry from the refined look you'd see when we started the 1990s. It's gorgeous stuff, and you owe it to yourself to give it a look if you were a Nintendo kid of the 1980s.
Star Wars Review: Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios (The Vintage Collection). It may not be quite as cool as the 6-inch "live action" Zeb, but it's very cool. I love the range of motion on the legs (remember when "legs swing forward all the way" was normal?) and the accessories are good - but there's a weird head variant, and it's a closed-box deluxe figure. Read the whole review.
Who says there's no future in 16-bit gaming? The controller supposedly has multiple levels of rumble, and I'm itching to know if it might be used with other software.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Sam & Max: The DevilŐs Playhouse, SteamWorld Heist II, Arcade Archives THE FINAL ROUND, and over a dozen more.
Via NPR: Devo: Tiny Desk Concert. Three of the five members from their debut album are still around after 50 years, with the band going on a maybe/maybe not farewell tour and multiple albums of material hitting this year. For "Hardcore Devo" era fans, "Art Devo" just got a US release a couple of months back - there are also multiple compilations of existing tracks. And there's this new live recording in an office building, and it sounds amazing.
The track list: "It Takes a Worried Man," "Blockhead," "Praying Hands," and "Come Back Jonee."
Also interesting, TFW2005 is showing the Mattel store put out the first Hot Wheels x Transformers Die-Cast Cars Found At US Retail. I have no idea if these are exclusives, or a specialty item, or what - but they seem pretty cool and I'll buy some if I see some.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Deluxe Bumblebee
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Deluxe Bumblebee is a redo of a redo, but it should be the Bee people have been wanting for years (since the Netflix one was hard to find.) His alt mode is similar to but is not a licensed Volkswagen, with a nicely articulated robot mode. Is it worth $25? Well, it's a little small, but you can see they put some money in the parts to ensure it can fold and wad up into a tiny little car. The car is roughly Scout/Basic size, though - I'd still recommend it. Read on!
Yeah, I'm reposting old stuff. I'm allowed. I've written thousands of these.
Via Mattel on many outlets: MOTU Snake Lair: Update on Eternia's Choice is, in short, Origins Snake Lair is not happening as planned. It should have launched this week, and they're delaying it due to fan response. The toy was pitched in a fan vote as a toy that looked like a sub-$100 playset, and was shown as a plussed-up/bloated $300 environment that may have been a little too big. When or if it will come back, or what changes may come, they don't yet say.
This week:
Pop It (Balloon Fight) - in which you pop a balloon in Balloon Trip mode.
Hammer Bro KO (Super Mario Bros. 3) - where you fire a turtle guy.
Fireball Rush (Kirby's Adventure) - where you get fired, but get ahead because of it.
Leap to the Peak (Super Mario Bros. 2) - where you jump to the top of a mountain on a part of 1-1 that you always skipped over because of the shortcut.
Neigh Slayer (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) - where Hyrule Horseman runs away.
It's always amazing to see what people can do in literal seconds - and how I'll never be as good as those guys. Admittedly none of this is news, but maybe it'll be interesting to someone long after I'm dead and/or no longer writing about this stuff.
Star Wars Review: 3PO Protocol Droid (Gold, Droid Factory)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: 3PO Protocol Droid (Gold, Droid Factory). If you didn't get the gold in Paris, maybe you can get one on eBay. This droid isn't C-3PO, but he comes from the droid bins that, sadly, no longer exist. He also looks pretty close to The Last Jedi C-3PO, so you may not necessarily need it but you also might very much need it for complete droid power. Read the whole review.
Review: Mattel Hot Wheels HW Screen Time Transformers Bumblebee
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New - but also old! This Mattel Hot Wheels HW Screen Time Transformers Bumblebee has a new base (with a face!) but reuses an old chassis that's been around for decades. It's an item that's so clever, you probably can't find it on store pegs because everybody else wants one too. It's more or less exactly what you could hope to get out of a $1.25 Bumblebee toy. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Review: Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Turtles of Grayskull Mer-Man Action Figure

Via Keshi Corner on Archive.org: Super Mario World 1991 Keshi Gomu Figures by Bandai, Complete Set. In addition to the corpulent Yoshi, you can find Eerie, Kamek, Iggy Coopa, Monty Mole, the Dolphin, and other rarely-made-as-toy characters. It's pretty exciting, especially given that this far exceeds the variety we tend to get out of modern toy lines for any license.
You don't need a 3D printer to enjoy these. You can open .stl files on your Mac in Preview, or any of a number of other applications on your PC.
Star Wars Review: Kai Brightstar (Jedi Pilot, Young Jedi Adventures)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Kai Brightstar (Jedi Pilot, Young Jedi Adventures). You didn't buy it - it's on clearance at a store near you, and it comes with a Jedi Vector-ish starfighter. It's well-made, like a big Imaginext figure, and on clearance it's an absolute bargain. You should give it a look. You won't, but you should. Read the whole review.

Via Kickstarter: Release delayed, bonus mini game, posters and Gamescom. A delayed Kickstarter is more or less expected, and it's appreciated that they actually announced it before September. They say "We prefer to add this delay to give us more time to finish the bonus game, do polish and plenty of beta testing to end up with a truly solid version instead of rushing out a buggy release. We are aiming to get it all done and shipped this year."
It includes four games, and they're still working on them - it looks like fun and hopefully we'll all be playing it before December ends. But hey, at least it's on the way.
Via my pal Shaun's jaunts around Chicago: MthreeLArt are paintings of retro electronics, Apple, and video game stuff from an Apple collector. Both original art and prints are available and it's on Etsy. If you haven't seen it, there are ICQ, AOL, Nintendo, and other items that are all worth a peek.
This week:
Quickdraw (Metroid) - in which you shoot a couple of Zoomers.
Shivery Start (Ice Climber) - can you jump through a hole?
1-1 of a Kind (Super Mario Bros. 3) - where you run through the first level.
Bombs Away (Kirby's Adventure) - in which you dash to barf up bombs at a boss.
Beneath the Hallow Tree (The Legend of Zelda) - a mad dash to the first dungeon.
Star Wars Review: Luke Skywalker (Jedi Academy, The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (Jedi Academy, The Retro Collection). It's the same as the spring 2023 figure, which is a remake of the 1983 figure, except this time it doesn't have a blaster and the cloak is black. Is it worth it? Well, it'd cost you about $10 for a fan-made black cloak so may as well get the official one. Read the whole review.

Review: Mattel Turtles of Grayskull Splinter-Skull Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New! This Mattel Turtles of Grayskull Splinter-Skull Action Figure comes with Metal-Boto's torso, and the whole set is pretty great. Metal-Boto's chest pops off to reveal gears, and Splinter is absolutely ripped. The set is at Target now. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
New (2023) Tom Lehrer Record with Liner Notes from Dr. Demento
Via Bandcamp: The Conducted Tom Lehrer came out last year on MP3, Cassette, CD, and Vinyl. I had no idea - I regularly search on Tom Lehrer in the news to see if he's given any interviews or, given that he's 96, to ensure he is still with us.
I just started checking my record stores for it (I try to buy local when possible) and so far, no dice. If you've never heard of him, you should check out his stuff - his records from the 1950s and 1960s are dirt cheap and show up at thrift stores from time to time, and collected works on CD are also pretty affordable. He's famous for "The Masochism Tango," "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park," "National Brotherhood Week," and you may have seen Daniel Radcliffe singing a cover of "The Element Song" when talking about trying to land the role of "Weird Al" Yankovic. Lehrer's material ages disturbingly well.
Via Keshi Corner on Archive.org: Crow (Ghosts 'n Goblins) - Keshi Gomu Rubber Figure 3D Scan! Awesome! It's always fun to go from "I had no idea this existed" to "and now you can print one at home, maybe" in seconds - if you had a 3-D printer, which I do not. But this looks gorgeous.
This sort of thing is probably the future of where toy collecting goes - so much of this stuff is going to crumble with time, so anyone putting up a high-resolution 3D scan will actually give future humans a chance to at least look at these unique artifacts. If you have access to a 3-D scanner, make yourself useful to the world of tomorrow and see what you can contribute!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Boba Fett (Epic Hero Series). It's fantastic - but not for everybody. If you were a Kenenr kid, this will feel like a roughly 1990s release with sturdy joints, awesome accessories, and a giant rocket-firing backpack that he can wear and stay standing. Deco is good, sculpt is excellent, and its ability to balance seems shocking giving how many The Vintage Collection guys just face-plent without a heavy backpack. I recommend him. Read the whole review.
New Transformers Crossovers: Zoids, Diaclone, Godzilla, More
Via YouTube: T-SPARK SYNERGENEX. There are a lot of things here - I was the most interested in this triple crossover Zoids, Transformers, and Diaclone Shield-D-Prime. This looks like a lot of fun, and it's one of several new teases and reveals in the below video.
These are likely part of Takara-Tomy's 40th Anniversary of Transformers - as the line debuted over in Japan in 1985.
Also interesting, Monster Hunter and Macross are up for crossing over. A Godzilla Optimus Prime is a redeco of Laser Optimus Prime as Kiryu - nothing special - and he's joined by the Grimlock body, with Megatron's head, in black, as Godzilla. It's clever, but lacks the green guy's trademark fins. And green. Kyodo News PR Wire has some pretty good pics of the Godzilla items that aren't in the video.
Via the above video too: T-SPARK SYNERGNEX.. Two flavors are coming with a Zoids kit featuring a Spider-Man figure on top - and they look pretty big, with 1:24-ish articulation.
The toy comes in red & blue or black, and it's a redeco of Spideath from Zoids Wild.

Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Hasbro Transformers Legacy United Deluxe Infernac Universe Magneous Action Figure is going to be available in at least three flavors, all of which are pretty nifty - this is the black one, Walmart has a blue one with a different head, and the main line has a white one too. The textures for the rocky bits are impressive, the head isn't too bad, and functionally, it's pretty neat. You can bolt him on to other figures as weapons or armor, or use him like the worst car Fred Flintstone ever drove. If you've got $25, I'd recommend it. Read on!
Yeah, I'm reposting old stuff. I'm allowed. I've written thousands of these.
Via Tom Lehrer: DAT Recordings. I missed this too - presumably recorded at least partially in the 1990s, there are two MP3s of songs like "The Love Song of the Physical Anthropologist" and "Selling Out" which I have never heard before. He also put up all of his albums as digital files to download, with lyrics, and sheet music.
His site also has downloads of all his albums and boxed sets - this may well be the entire ouvre. If you're unfamiliar with his works, I recommend checking them out - they age extremely well from comedy mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. I'm sure many of the references are over my head as not having been watching news from before my birth. It's brilliant (and now free) stuff.
This week:
Sub-Space Exploration (Super Mario Bros. 2) - in which Toad does mushrooms.
Cool It (Excitebike) - In which you have to zip around in a race without overheating. I still have a hard time with this one.
Curtain Call: Larry (Super Mario Bros. 3) - In which you easily smash Larry Koopa in under 10 seconds.
In the Zone (Super Mario Bros) - In which you dash through 1-2 to get to the Warp Zone to world 4.
Labyrinth Champion (The Legend of Zelda) - In which you burn though Level 1 and collect the first Triforce in under 90 seconds, or your pizza is free.
I had the easiest time with Zelda and Larry, while Excitebike continues to be vexing. At least for me, it seems the ones I play the most now - like Zelda - are still easiest. Despite all challenges being available since I bought this game, I've found I'm coming back every week to do the new (and repeating) trials, so I think I'm getting my money's worth despite owning cartridges for almost all of the originals. (I keep almost picking up Balloon Fight and my Excitebike was a cheapo Famicom eBay lot pickup.)
Star Wars Review: CH-33P (Cheep, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: CH-33P (Cheep, The Vintage Collection). If you didn't get the gold in Paris, maybe you can get one on eBay. This droid isn't C-3PO, but he comes from the droid bins that, sadly, no longer exist. He also looks pretty close to The Clone Wars version, but since it uses the Chopper body the torso and one of the legs don't match. You do get a new dome, and the old body is painted to look more or less like the on-screen robot. For a $70 set, it would have been nice to have had the correct body and limbs though. Read the whole review.
Review: Mattel Hot Wheels Racer Verse Scrooge McDuck
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New! This Mattel Hot Wheels Racer Verse Scrooge McDuck came out in the summer, and is pretty impressive with a gold base, painted eyes, clear glasses, and a nice hat. There are a fair amount of parts and pieces molded in color, plus that fancy printing on the face - which looks good in spots, and a little cheap in spots. The end results look pretty spectacular though, and while $6 is a fair amount to spend on a Hot Wheels car... it is pretty cool. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Old! This long-sold-out Onell Design Glyos Commander Nillin Pheyden Action Figure is pretty great, with a nicely painted silver head and really good thick layers of paint on the limbs and chest. The Glyos factory's paint game never disappoints. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Keshi Corner Adds Cheep Cheep (Super Mario Bros.) 3D Scans
Via Keshi Corner on Archive.org: Cheep Cheep (Super Mario Bros.) 1985 Keshi Gomu Figure. It's neat, because it's kind of dumpy - it doesn't particularly look like the game, but it does look like a 1980s Japanese toy figure..
GameStop Opening Retro Gaming Sections in Select Stores
Via GameStop: Retro Store Locator. It isn't particularly close to me (despite many GameStops around), but they're going to start carrying old hardware and software again. Which makes sense, you can't download a physical cartridge or clone console as of yet. Some of the "retro" stuff is rather recent - one or two generations back, and probably connected to a TV in your home - but they also promise stuff from as far back as the 1980s. Notably, no Atari stuff seems to be coming up and anything pre-NES seems left off. Which feels about right..
Hopefully they expand this program to more stores, because I am unlikely to drive 20 miles to see stuff at GameStop which is also at the local used game shop next to the pizza place. I hope it takes off, because if they can sell more clone consoles, maybe they can sell more new games for old systems too.
Star Wars Review: Grand Admiral Thrawn (Rebels, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Grand Admiral Thrawn (Rebels, The Vintage Collection). Taking the book character, and making him a cartoon, and making a live-action version of the cartoon version of the book character, is certainly a novel idea. It recycles some other movie figure parts, and it will again be recycled with the Ahsoka Thrawn in the future - with other new parts. As such this is something of a transitional figure, so if you skip it, you might be in good shape. Read the whole review.
HasLab G.I. Joe Cobra Rattler Under 3,000 to Baroness Stretch Goal
Via Hasbro Pulse: The Cobra Rattler's UNLOCK 3: G.I. JOE CLASSIFIED SERIES PILOT BARONESS 6-INCH-SCALE ACTION FIGURE is a hair under 3,000 backers away from making it, with 10 days to go. I kind of figured this one would be funded already given how strong it was right out of the gate, but it has another week and a bit to go before everything wraps up.
