Wal-Mart, Target (May) Have 2-For-1 Dark of the Moon Transformers

TransformersNew Deluxe For LessSince late November Target has had these 2-packs, but now Wal-Mart has Transformers Dark of the Moon Bonus Packs for about ten bucks. Target's focus on earlier waves, while Wal-Mart has figures as recent as Cyberfire Bumblebee and Specialist Ratchet-- which, let's face it, is better than full price.

We have spotted Darksteel and Air Raid at Kohl's, but so far, not really a lot of other places. They're "on sale" for $13.99, which is actually a few dollars off from regular price. (They aren't scalping-- Target, Toys R Us, and the like are toy discounters, KB Toys and the rest were generally charing close to SRP or a reasonable markup. We're just used to "discount" being "normal" now.)

New Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released

Xbox Live ArcadeApples to ApplesXbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Apples to Apples, a $10/800 digital version of the hugely popular board game which, I kid you not, also exists in a Kosher edition board game. That's how you know you've arrived! Microsoft says:

"Party-style fun is ripe for the picking as Apples to Apples the video game comes to Xbox LIVE Arcade! This game of hilarious comparisons is as simple as comparing "apples to apples" - just select the red card you think is most like the green card played by the judge. If the judge picks your card, you win the round. And everyone gets a chance to be the judge! Play online with up to 5 friends in Classic Mode or two variant modes - Baked Apples and Crab Apples! Choose from 26 hilarious Apple Avatars, enjoy environments like Space Apples and Carnival Apples, and collect Golden Apple Cards that mix up the game! Bursting with over 1000 red and green cards, Apples to Apples the video game provides endless hours of unpredictable, over-the-top fun!"

Also, the new dashboard update is up which boasts support for streaming live TV. I have no idea how it works as it's downloading as I type this.

Target Marking Down Translucent DOTM Exclusive Transformers

TransformersCheap RepaintsLast July's exclusive wave of Target Transformers deluxe toys may be marked down at a store near you. Space Case (pictured), Bumblebee, Arcee, and Jazz were all made with clear plastic bits and given an exclusive comic book. Each figure is now 30%-50% off, depending on your store, and in some cases the stores put the discount stickers on other, neighboring lines which are not on sale. So fair warning there.

In my area, some stores put out new stock for the sale-- so if you haven't seen Space Case for months, now is your chance. (I reviewed him a few months ago, so do read that.)

Louis C.K. Releases Download of Comedy Concert Film

ComedyFunnyBreaking form with the comedy world (and doing a fine job), Louis C.K. Live at the Beacon Theater has been released as a direct download. The 63-minute comedy special is available as a stream or as an MP4 for $5 and after having watched it last night, it's (obviously) very funny. To further comment on it would be to do you a disservice-- if you're familiar with C.K.'s large body of work and amazing DIY work ethic, you're going to love watching him put on this special which he masterminded and edited with three popsicle sticks and a few cameras. It's amazing. No, this isn't an ad, but it was totally worth checking out. The special will not be airing on cable or released on DVD, and his site's marketing copy for this special is some of the best I've seen this side of Chunklet.

"No DRM, no regional restrictions, no crap. You can download this file, play it as much as you like, burn it to a DVD, whatever."

Nicely done.

Two Lost Doctor Who Episodes Found

New Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released

Xbox Live ArcadeXbox fans, it's time to download Sonic CD, a $5/400 point port of the Sega CD classic. But which soundtrack does it have? how you know you've arrived! Microsoft says:

"It's time to usher the past into the future in this enhanced recreation of Sonic CD! Sonic travels to the distant shores of Never Lake for the once-a-year appearance of Little Planet - a mysterious world where past, present, and future collide through the power of the Time Stones that lie hidden within it. His arch-nemesis, Dr. Eggman, has come for the Time Stones and with them, will soon have the power to control time itself In order to put an end to Dr. Eggman's nefarious schemes, Sonic must use the power of Little Planet to travel through time; breaking Dr. Eggman's hold over the future by destroying his machines in the past and recovering the missing Time Stones! Featuring 16:9 widescreen, achievements, leaderboards and both the US and Japanese soundtracks, experience the adventure through time that introduced the world to Amy the Hedgehog and Eggman's most evil creation, Metal Sonic."

Also, Joe Danger Special Edition was released, and I don't know if a regular edition was produced. It's $15/1,200 points and seems to be like Excitebike with more "excite" programmed into it. It certainly looks neat.

LEGO Gets Lord of the Rings, Hobbitses

LEGOFrodo LivesNow that movie-based Lord of the Rings toys are old enough to be arguably "retro," LEGO announced they will be making LOTR and Hobbit toys in 2012. Cynical me thinks this is just a grab to do more LEGO video games-- as there may be more money in those than the actual toys-- but I suppose we'll know more come Toy Fair in February!

Character You've Never Heard Of Wins He-Man.org's Fan's Choice Poll

Masters of the UniverseWho?After many weeks of many votes, the Winner of the He-Man.org Official Fan Figure Choice Poll is Illumina and you've never heard of her. She never actually appeared in a story, but was advertised in some latter-day comics as an upcoming character and apparently the fans friggin' love her.

She'll be coming in 2013, along with another character selected by German fans which is still (as far as I know) to be releaved.

LEGO To Revive Monsters in 2012

LEGO2012The LEGO Wiki has LEGO Monster Fighters dirt listed-- the long and short of it, it's new monster sets. Previously, Monsters were part of the movie studio line in the early 2000s and, of course, the blind-bagged minifigures over the past few years. Exciting, eh? Pictured is the Swamp Monster, a creature presumably from a lagoon which is not black.

New ThunderCats Hitting Now

ThunderCatsMumm-RaTarget stores are getting new ThunderCats figures right now, including the classic 6-inch Mumm-Ra and Lion-O which we reported on earlier! These are in classic-ish boxes and may be confused for their existing 8-inch line at first glance. Were it not for Mumm-Ra, I'd have not immediately noticed them.

Target also has a new "Eye of Thundera" boxed set with several characters from the show, which seems like a good place to start collecting. The 4-inch scale figures include Mumm-Ra, Tygra, Snarf, and Lion-O. As far as I can tell, Snarf is the selling point here, and some of the other figures are missing a key accessory or two. The set is $29, which is... well, arguably OK.
