Classic Review: Plastic Imagination Rise of the Beasts Bal Kharn - Green Rhino with Grey Paint
|
Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! The Plastic Imagination Rise of the Beasts Bal Kharn - Green Rhino with Grey Paint is from 2015, a neat little figure from a line that stopped far too quickly. For a brief time it seemed we were destined to get multiple lines just like Battle Beasts, and given they all ended pretty quickly, I guess they were. This Glyos-compatible figure was really cool with moving arms and a jointed neck. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Review: Blokees Blokees Transformers Galaxy Version 01 Roll Out Ratchet Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A good deal. Blokees Blokees Transformers Galaxy Version 01 Roll Out Ratchet Action Figure cost under $7, and you can put it together in under 20 minutes - it's a great example of how to get people collecting without having to pay $25 or $35 to get started. Low-cost figures are far and few between. Even though Ratchet has compromises like many shared parts, it's still a good figure. I hope you can find one in a store near you. Read on!

Nintendo World Championships: Week 30
|
Via Nintendo: Competition #30 is on now in Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. I feel like they must be getting my vibes about the games I'd rather not play.
This week:
Not Lichen It (Super Mario Bros: Lost Levels) - in which you die by mushrooms.
Monster Slayer (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link) - in which three beasts must die.
Shoo, Lakitu! (Super Mario Bros) - in which a 4-1 run must be done.
Egg Toss (Super Mario Bros. 2) - in which you egg a Birdo, in this economy.
Favorable Wind (Kirby's Adventure) - in which you have the wind to your back and race to the finish.
This was a fun batch overall, I even beat some old times.

Star Wars Review: The Mandalorian (Speeder Bike / Epic Hero Series)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Mandalorian (Speeder Bike / Epic Hero Series). It's an actual toy! It comes with a bike that has wheels. He has elbow and knee joints. It's a big improvement over last year's figure, but I haven't yet seen this one on store shelves. His companion, the Imperial Speeder Bike, seems to be abundant at Target though. Time is the fire in which we burn. Where was I going with this? Right, this is a cool boat of car. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Posted 10 years ago! The Onell Design Glyos Neo Granthan Vrylless Action Figure is from 2015, and gave the Armorvor figure its first major mold change with the dinosaur-like head. Three flavors came out in January 2015, and they sold really quickly. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Hasbro's New HasLab: Transformers Liokaiser
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Legacy HasLab Liokaiser Combiner. Its first stretch goal is Deathcobra, a seventh member from the cartoon who didn't have a toy before. It's a pretty big deal. The set had over 4,100 sold within the first two days, needing to hit 10,000 for funding, and 13,000 for Deathcobra.
This item is on sale through March 24, meaning it'll probably be on display in some New York press event for Toy Fair and possibly elsewhere.

Review: Takara-Tomy Transformers Missing Link Bumblebee Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Pricey but impressive. Takara-Tomy Transformers Missing Link Bumblebee Action Figure is about $40 - the G1 reissue was $10 a few years ago, but it wasn't this fancy. The Missing Link release has bonus stickers and for the first time, a blaster. It uses the 1984 masked face, and the head has a joint. There are jointed elbows and other bits of added articulation. It's good, but the level of improvement isn't as visible as we got with Optimus Prime. I still like it a lot, and if you've got the money it's worth a look. Read on!

Star Wars Review: Luke Skywalker (The Vintage Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (The Vintage Collection). It's the first new version of this specific Luke at this size in years - it's been over a decade since he was in The Vintage Collection as a single-carded figure. Heck, the last best version was in a The Legacy Collection Battle Pack, so you're going to be pretty happy with this very good upgrade. Also exciting, it's a character from the movie called Star Wars, of which there are annoyingly few these days. Read the whole review.

It's a secret dragon! The Mattel Turtles of Grayskull Masters of the Universe x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ninjor Action Figure postulates that maybe Ninjor was always a dragon. Sure, why not. The figure is pretty big with massive wings and a long neck, plus a sword. There are clear purple bits and a jointed jaw - and this is probably the last wave of these guys, so go ahead and grab one if you can find it. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Master Replicas Introduces Playmates-Scale Star Trek Figures
|
 Via Master Replicas:
In 2025 Master Replicas is launching an exciting new line of 4.5-inch Star Trek action figures. Each figure is fully poseable, has a digitally sculpted likeness and comes with accessories.
. These seem scaled to match Playmates' lines, with articulation similar to the brief eight-figure line from a couple of years ago. They key difference is that the license seems to focus on new streaming series and movies, with no mention of classic stuff this time. They look pretty good, and will come out later this year for about $25.99 each (plus shipping.) Pre-orders are open for Picard and Spock.

Joann Fabric and Craft Store Closing 5/8 Of Locations
|
Via CNN: Joann, the bankrupt fabrics retailer, is closing 500 of its 800 stores. Word on the street has been they've been looking for a buyer and would probably have until March 15 to see what happens. After the closure of Big Lots, you may be asking if this impacts you as a toy buyer - probably not, but they did carry a small amount of toys and were one of few places around where you could easily get most kinds of fabric in suburbia.
Fast Company has a list of closures.

Star Wars Review: Scout Trooper (Speeder Bike / Epic Hero Series)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Scout Trooper (Speeder Bike / Epic Hero Series). This is a new release that's actually easy to find - most Target stores seem to be getting solid cases of just him. (But, oddly, not the Mando bike.) The figure is pretty good, with nice paint and a slick off-white coloring that looks sort of like the battle-worn armor on the show. It also includes a Stormtrooper blaster instead of the Bike Scout pistol, but it's still a neat figure with a nice toy bike. Read the whole review.

|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
I had to track down two of the Mattel Hot Wheels Star Trek Captain Kirk. Why? The first one's face was printed off-center, which I did not know until I got it home. Oops. The second one is the one you'll see here, and it's pretty cool. It's an interesting choice to make it the refit - especially given the ranking of the driver - but it looks cool! Also it has no business existing given I can't imagine kids are interested, and I don't know a lot of adults who aren't me buying this line yet. They're missing out, it's really cool - and you might find one of these in a store near you. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Star Wars Review: Mae (Assassin, The Vintage Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Mae (Assassin, The Vintage Collection). This figure answers the question "Does Hasbro still got it?" with a "Yes." She has optional masks, a cloth cloak, two daggers, incredible costume deco, an amazing likeness, and a well separately molded hair piece. Given the size Hasbro is working with I'd say this figure is as good as the modern era can be expected to get - and you might, maybe, find her in a store near you as The Acolyte stuff has been slower to move. If you see her, you should give this figure a look - it's good. Read the whole review.

Classic Review: ToyFinity Mordles Electra-Geist Mordles

Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! The ToyFinity Mordles Electra-Geist Mordles is from 2014, and the Pac-Man themed little guys went with a big, yellow Pac-Man-looking guy. It's also funny to think where collector toy things have gone - we were getting some genuinely amazing remakes of rarities, weird indie stuff, and surprisingly good and cheap mass-market toys. Not so much these days. New Mordles still see production here and there, but sadly we're not seeing many other toy lines brought back to life these days in this exacting a retro manner. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

28 Days to Go: HasLab Transformers Liokaiser
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Legacy HasLab Liokaiser Combiner. With four weeks to go, it's doing incredibly well having been funded and now standing at over 12,000 backers tallied on the US site. Some non-US territories were included in this number, but Japan's are, as far as I know, not yet included. I'm guessing we're probably already at Deathcobra, the 13,000 stretch goal, and don't even know it yet.
There was a Japan-only Liokaiser in the late 1980s, and in the USA Entertainment Earth had a Combiner Wars Liokaiser in 2016. While it lacks all the team members, its price has been dropping in recent weeks so if you didn't pick that one up? There's no time like the present.

NES Triple Jump Kickstarter Delayed

Via Morphcat Games on Kickstarter: [Triple Jump] Delay Q2 2025 / Print Samples / Keychain Lanyard. There are updated images of sticker samples and more, with an update of Q2 for the Micro Mages Second Quest, Space Gulls, and Bobl (plus bonus mini game) cartridge. It was originally set for September, and I assume anyone who has ever backed a Kickstarter knows six months late is effectively "on time."

Joann Fabric and Craft Stores Shuttering All Locations
|
Via KTAR and elsewhere but this wasn't paywalled (thanks Phil): All Joann fabric and craft stores, including 10 in metro Phoenix, are closing. While you may not be a crafter, it's just another in a long parade of specialty retail closing in the past decade and change. After the decline and almost total loss of RadioShack, Sears, and Kmart, we've also lost Toys R Us, Tuesday Morning, Big Lots, Fry's Electronics, Circuit City, and others. Some still live on as a web site or as a brand statement for another store, but there just aren't as many places to go buy very specific stuff anymore. I was hoping an electronics or craft store would carry spools of 3D printer filament, but I'm not seeing it anywhere here yet.
There are other places where you can buy a lot of this stuff, but the list of stores that are in some way unique seem to be diminishing quickly.

|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Not new, but cool! I got the Mattel Hot Wheels King Kuda Art Cars last year. It's a common car - a repaint of something from 55 years ago - but I really liked the idea of a muscle car covered in playing card artwork. For $1.25 it's rather impressive. You get a chrome interior, red wheels, and really nice markings on the roof and sides of the car. It also sold quickly, I imagine you won't stumble on one any time soon - but if you do, get one. It's worth the asking price of basically pocket change. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Game Boy Color Fallen Crown Kickstarter Delayed
