Rubie's Files for Chapter 11

ToysHallnoweenVia many but I wrote this at Galactic Hunter: Is Halloween Cancelled? Rubie's Costume Co. Files for Chapter 11. In short the company is by no means defeated, but it shows a lot about the business world's feelings on Halloween.

The annual tradition of kids in costumes getting candy has gone largely uninterrupted for years, but Rubie's - who makes a ton of licensed costumes for upcoming (and now delayed) movies - is clearly concerned and so are its customers. While things may go up and down in the next few months, it's starting to look like you won't need to hand out candy on October 31.

Playmobil Makes Plastic Masks with Filters for People

PlaymobilNose-Mouth-MaskVia Playmobil: The nose and face masks provided by the geobra BrandstŠtter Stiftung & Co. KG reduces the risk of infecting other people by droplet infection. As of yet not sold in the USA, this is meant to be worn for about 10 hours. There's a plastic mask with a safety filter you can snap between 2 pieces of plastic. It seems simple and is probably the kind of thing we're all going to be seeing a lot more of in most of the world.

They're about $5 and you can get them in the UK. You can also send me one if you like. Note the fine print: "Legal notice: The mask does not provide self-protection for the wearer and does not comply with the regulations as a medical device or the occupational health and safety regulations for personal protective equipment. No medical device and no personal protective equipment."

Transformers Selects God Neptune Boxed Set

TransformersGod NeptuneVia Rhino Records: Transformers Generations Selects God Neptune. The Takara-Tomy toy mall exclusive may wind up on Hasbro Pulse but we haven't heard for sure yet - most of them do, but Nemesis Prime did not. Scylla is retooled from Tentakil, and the set is orbiting $200 before import fees.

This is the pre-order page for Japan and it's 22,000 yen with an October 2020 release. Pre-orders are due by June 17, so we'll probably find out real quick if there's to be US distribution.

Are We Not PPE? We Are Devo!

MusicAre We Not Men?Via Impact Merchandising: DEVO Ð Energy Dome PPE Kit (Personal Protection Equipment) Ð PRE-ORDER. No release date is given, but the price is $49.98.

I have the one Disguise put out over 10 years ago and it was pretty good - if a bit flimsy. This looks significantly more durable and seems right on brand for Devo, the de-evolution band that more or less warned us of a good chunk of the future that is now. They also added "Energy Now" face masks and a PPS, a term I've never seen or heard of before this year.

God Neptune Pre-Orders on Hasbro Pulse, Importers

TransformersSushibotVia Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Takara Tomy Generations Selects TT-GS10 God Neptune. If you asked me which toys from Beast Wars II I'd see this decade, this would not have been one of them. The $185.99 set includes Sea Phantom, Coelagon, Halfshell, Scylla, and Terrormander.

The set was announced on the heels of the G1 Seacons shipping out of Hasbro Pulse, so I guess now you can buy them again with an arguably less eye-burning paint job. The Destrons/Predacons/pirates lack the Lobclaw/Nautilator mold just like Takara's 1990s combiner, but you get all the gear you need to build the combiner robot.

Pre-orders are due by June 15, 2020 and the toy is estimated to ship October 24 of this year. The G1 Seacons were delayed significantly, so maybe add a couple of months to that.

J.C. Penney Closing 30% of Stores

ToysJCPVia WISN: J.C. Penney plans to close more than 240 stores. As one of the remaining mall stalwarts, and certainly one of very few places in our nearby malls that may have some toys around, and also as a go-to place to buy all kinds of stuff, this is certainly not good news for the consumer or the considerable number of hard-working employees in those stores - many of which have been out of the office for weeks if not months.

Of course, anything can happen - a number of outlets, like Yahoo! Finance, report Amazon, J.C. Penney in talks: report. Does it mean anything? Probably not, but the mall is a big building in many cities, with lots of available, cheap space ripe for use these days. Perhaps not exactly these days, but days in the coming weeks. Months? Years.
