Classic Review: Onell Design Glyos Ivorinium Noboto Action Figure from 2013
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted 10 years ago today! The Onell Design Glyos Ivorinium Noboto Action Figure had a rough launch, but turned out to be a really nice little figure that can be repainted a bazillion ways and still look fresh. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!

Review: Hasbro Transformers Rise of the Beasts Deluxe Beast Weaponizers Optimus Primal and Arrowstripe Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Not bad! The Hasbro Transformers Rise of the Beasts Deluxe Beast Weaponizers Optimus Primal and Arrowstripe Figure is a pretty good toy - it's not complicated at all, and it feels like it's a fun figure to play with. The transformation is basically as lazy as it gets, but it looks decent and its various connecting sockets make it a figure that I put away after getting it... and took it back out several times. That's pretty dang decent if you ask me. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

New Game Boy Color Metroidvania on Kickstarter
Via Kickstarter: The Fallen Crown - A New Metroidvania for Gameboy Color is... well, they told you. It looks interesting, the animations seem to have some weight, and with 29 days to go it's close to being funded. That's not bad. There is indeed a demo ROM.
The demo is pretty good - the Knight you start with is pretty clunky, but the second character you control is pretty snappy and figuring out combat is interesting - you can bounce on heads to stun before you attack. The opening part pre-transformation made me think the demo was a mistake, but as you got new powers I really liked how it played. I might buy this.
A full ROM is $11 (and due August 2024) and the boxed cartridge is a pretty reasonably US $50. Will they make these dates? Probably not. It isn't usually how it works.

Star Wars Review: R4 Unit (Orange, 2023 Pride Collection)

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R4 Unit (Orange, 2023 Pride Collection). Your unsurprising summary: they took an old mold, made it taste like Orange Crush, and now it's awesome. Jurassic Park Crowdfund: The Gates Update
Via Mattel Creations: Jurassic World The Gates Crowdfund plods along after a week with 24% funded and 1,206 backers at press time.
With 22 days to go, there is a glimmer of hope that this could fund if enough people see it at San Diego Comic-Con in a few weeks and go for it. But I wouldn't bet on it.
And over at HasLab, the G.I. Joe Classified Series Dragonfly continues but has been kind of slow to hit its stretch goals. It's funded, and sitting around 14,628 - 1,400 short of the next stretch goal, with 12 days to go.

Star Wars Review: Luthen Rael (The Black Series)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luthen Rael (The Black Series). Slightly more compelling than the title character of Andor, Hasbro made this figure with a top-notch head sculpt, baggy pants, and some joints that stuck a little more than I'd have liked - but hey, use the force, things start to move. Read the whole review.

Review: Onell Design Pheyden Ignelleun Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A classic - and it might sort of tie in to the new Onell Design drop this weekend! The Onell Design Pheyden Ignelleun Action Figure is a genuinely great design with a glossy green head and a sandy space suit. It's great, I'm mad I didn't open it sooner. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Old New Old Pulsars Record Released
Via Bandcamp: Lost Transmissions by Pulsars and also Amazon as Lost Transmissions. This is a group you probably never heard of, but was all over Tucson's record stores (and discount bins for literally as little as ten cents) about 23 years ago. I tracked down the Trumfio brothers about a decade ago to see if they had any other albums left to release and was told yes - but nothing ever came of it. Well, apparently it did, in 2021 and I missed it. The UK release is actually pretty cheap on CD, and is packed with demos and unreleased songs.
I would describe their other work as "kind of like They Might Be Giants but not." Along with Combustible Edison's Forbidden Isle of Demos it's a pretty good time to be a fan of 1990s bands that nobody but me remembers!

Review: Hasbro Marvel Legends 375 Magneto Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Old! This Hasbro Marvel Legends 375 Magneto Action Figure was one of the first figures in this line, and one of very few villains. (Also the only regular-size X-Men baddie.) It uses a basic body with a cape and new head - and it's pretty darned good. I was finding him in stores as late as last year, which is a long time for an action figure. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted 10 years ago tomorrow! The Onell Design Glyos Reydurran Operations Unit Mini Blocker Rig Action Figure has nifty arms and is the kind of thing they don't make anymore - vinyl Glyos seem to be a thing of the past! This black and red figure looks great and is a mix of the Block figure and the Rig figure, and the results are pretty nice. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!

New Man... or Astro-Man? Records of old Recordings
Via Chunklet on Bandcamp: Peel Session 1993 and Radio Scotland 1994 records and MP3s. The simple jackets are incredibly plain - but certainly very retro. (No Art Chantry drawings here, folks.) It's stuff you probably heard, but it's new to vinyl and the first of what looks to be a series.
From the Peel sessions description: "Chunklet Industries is proud to announce a breakthrough in broadcasting technology. For the first time, the BBC working hand-in-hand with intergalactic audio pioneers ManÉor Astro-Man? present to you seven volumes of their famed U.K. radio sessions. The bandÕs debut session in Maida Vale 3 was also the first time they stepped foot on English soil. It all started with Birdstuff sending a postcard to John Peel insisting that he not play the band's music and it let to December 1993, at the special request of legendary DJ John Peel, who became one the earliest, most visible and most vocal supporters of the band on English soil, five songs were recorded and three tracks are being released on this initial single."

Star Wars Review: Paz Vizsla (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Paz Vizsla (The Vintage Collection). This one is kind of fascinating - it shows what Hasbro can do with a higher budget. They decided to make a more expensive figure, so elements that would normally be painted - like the yellow armor - are now molded in color. He has more gear and more articulation, plus tons of paint applications. Is he great? Absolutely. Is it worth $28 instead of a simpler figure at $10-$15 with less stuff? Probably not - but at least you can see where the money went here. Read the whole review.

Via @Syrett_tech on Instagram: The long wait is over! This genetic monstrosity is finally done. After months of painstaking work and hundreds of my wife's dagger eyes for taking over most of the house, I present to you the Fierce Ultimasaurus.
Sales information: The Ultimasaurus will be available on my Etsy on Friday, July 14th, at 6 pm EST.
Cost $300 plus tax/shipping.
There will be 25 units available.
There will be a limit of 2 figures per order. As etsy doesn't offer a way to limit quantity, I will manually cancel any orders over 2 units and immediately relist for the next potential buyers. .
This was a big, mutant dinosaur that was supposed to have been mad in the 1990s, but never was. So he made one, complete with box, to sell. Only 25 units is kind of preposterously small of a run, but $300 is also a high price tag. Good luck to all. Or, just get the baby one. The price shot up, so maybe don't.

Jurassic Park Crowdfund: The Gates Update
Via Mattel Creations: Jurassic World The Gates Crowdfund continues to stumble in its third week with 26% funded and 1,315 backers at press time. It sold about 109 units over the last week - it's got no momentum.
With 15 days to go, it don't look good. It is only 26% funded - that's 2% over last week.
It's a fascinating piece, but arguably a glorified store or Toy Fair display. It will likely join that Ultimasaurus in toy oblivion shortly.

Star Wars Review: R2-D2 (The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R2-D2 (The Retro Collection). Slightly more compelling than the title character of Andor, A Kenner R2-D2-esque droid made a cameo in a trailer yesterday, but I plan these things weeks in advance - what a coincidence! The 1978 droid always looked a little weird, but now you can get a nearly-perfect one at a decent price. It's just as good as I remember, and in better shape, so I'd recommend it to Kenner fanatics. Review: Outer Space Men Cosmic Radiation Terra Firma Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting DFigure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
She glows! The Outer Space Men Cosmic Radiation Terra Firma Action Figure has a lot going for her, and the silver paint highlights one of her more impressive assets - her hair! It looked fine in brown, in white, and in clear orange but the shiny silver paint really shows the workmanship put in to making this figure. Also the plastic glows really brightly, so I hope you got one of these. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted 10 years ago today! The Banimon Banigoth Horde Ghost Troopers (Assassination Squad) were awesome little glow in the dark dudes who were a mere $7. A bargain by today's standards, not too bad - but not cheap - for the time. But you got two heads, a backpack, and some decent accessories - it was a worthwhile indie purchase. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!

Old Kenner Chaos Effect Ultimasaurus Found, Real Expensive on eBay
Via eBay: Hasbro 1997 JURASSIC PARK CHAOS EFFECT ULTIMASAURUS 8" DINOSAUR VERY RARE!!!.
This was a big, unreleased toy and it was up to $11,000 Friday night and was up to $15,000 Sunday night. It looks like it might be a late preproduction piece or production item - assuming, of course, that it is legit. It's pretty amazing stuff and probably one of the rarest Jurassic Park items that also appeals to a very specific audience.
There's money in this stuff - hopefully companies will see the prototype prices or bootleg sales of Ultimasaurus and Vlix and say "we want a piece of that."

Amazing Celeste/Mario NES ROM Hack
Via ROMhacking.net: Celeste Mario's Zap & Dash!. You need a patch program and a Super Mario Bros. ROM, and what you get is: "A hastily done minihack (with levels designed within 2 months) that features Celeste-styled gameplay." There are power-ups and fancy graphics and it is hard given the new mechanics.
There are compatibility issues - I was unable to get it to run on any emulators I had, but it worked fine on the Analogue Pocket's NES core. Alex Mitchell at RetroRGB wrote "Sadly, enthusiasts looking to enjoy this ROM hack on real hardware are currently out of luck. While I was able to run Celeste Mario on the Analogue PocketÔs OpenFPGA NES core, the Nt Mini NoirÔs jailbreak, the MiSTerÕs NES core, and the latest version of FCEUX, I was not able to run it from an Everdrive N8 Pro running the latest firmwareÑowing to its MMC5 implementation not supporting the necessary amount of RAM."

Star Wars Review: R5 Unit (Yellow, 2023 Pride Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R5 Unit (Yellow, 2023 Pride Collection). It's bright, it has a red dot on it, and the yellow lighter highlights pop nicely. The darker yellow painted parts are hard to notice. Read the whole review.
Potentially even more exciting, Yak Face - the old Kenner/Palitoy 1980s Yak Face - is getting an official reissue!
Leak: Retro ROTJ Randomness may be the very best set of these things to date. You get a whopping four aliens, one troop builder, and an all-new sculpt Mon Mothma. I was whining that the first wave of reissues was all main guys, one of which was quite cheap/common, so this is pretty much the perfect antidote to that and a great excuse for all of you to join my retro cult and give up the 6-inch ways.

Arizona Mattel Theme Park: 2024
Via Theme Park Tourist:
Mattel Adventure Park Featuring Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Masters Of The Universe Opening Next Year! Set for Glendale, AZ (west Phoenix) this 161,000 square foot park was supposed to be open in late 2022, and missed the target. With the Barbie movie this week, presumably this is an opportune time to bring it up in conversation again. There is a live construction camera, which is kind of surprising - but you can see it even in the middle of the night. It's still a lot of dirt.
For those who want to know what 161,000 square feet means, Disneyland is 900,000 square feet. Phoenix residents' current go-to fun park, Castles N' Coasters, is about 10,000 square feet. The former flagship Toys R Us store in Times Square was 110,000 square feet. This means Mattel's park isn't

For reasons I can't figure out as I write this, I can't get in to my FTP to update this site. So I'm going to keep writing and editing and upload it as soon as I can get in again.
Hasbro Transformers on Preview Night |

Not a lot of newness, but the first in-person reveal of the Walmart Transformers Legacy Toxitron "G2" Capsule. Other toys were on display, including a giant $1500 Robosen Grimlock toy. I'd steer you to the G2 guys - they're hitting stores this week.
Hasbro Star Wars on Preview Night |

Star Wars mostly showed things you've seen, with some Ahsoka and Young Jedi Adventures stuff getting their first public reveals. But I was the most excited about seeing The Book of Boba Fett The Retro Collection figures up close. These are expected later this year.

Review: Healey Made Assassin (Shadow) Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New and possibly still available! The Healey Made Assassin (Shadow) Action Figure is a nifty figure but given this one is still available, it's possible the strategy of spreading three similar figures over a quarter is wearing thin - but I like it. The cape is nice and has a neat painted pattern on it, plus the colors look sharp. There's some weirdness on the helmet, though. Do read on, and come back next week for more fun!

SDCC More Stuff (post 2 of many)

It turns out Hyatt blocks my ability to reach some sites, including the FTP to upload these files. So you'll be seeing this late. Here's some of what I hoped you would see Friday morning.
That 70's Show |
That 70's Show had an outside display with the series' famous Vista Cruiser. Laff TV had the booth up as a promotion for a 25th anniversary celebration from August 21 - 24, but what that is, I don't know. They also gave out key chains.
Hasbro Star Wars on Preview Night |
The off-site Hasbro Vault had a ton of old toys and a shop with a few items for sale - only two exclusives, though. A two-pack of War Dawn Transformers figures were $50 and the one Star Wars Krrsantan figure was $40.
Hasbro Breakfast on Thursday |
Most of what was on display at the Hasbro Breakfast wasn't new, but you could get up close and see things like the new Selfie Series 2.0 figures (with glasses), Ahsoka toys, Powerlinx Hot Shot, and a Black Series Pre Vizsla from The Clone Wars. And food. And a poster. (I'll shoot that at a later date.)

Super7 Makes Giant ThunderCats Cat's Lair Playset
Via Super7: ThunderCats ULTIMATES!
Cats' Lair. I saw it (and got to talk to Super7 about it briefly) and it is absurdly huge - if you collect this line, you will want it. It's big, it's a piece of furniture, but it has light-up screens and is probably bigger than any action figure thing you are likely to own, unless you own a F.L.A.G.G.
It's $650 (plus $100 shipping) and has 1,070 backers of 3,000 as I write this. Stretch goals include bonus key accessories for early funding (possible, July 30), a bonus Sword of Omens, Claw Shield, and Lab set at 4,000 backers, and a clear Astral Projection Lion-O figure at 5,000 units sold.
If you have the space and funds, and do not have hundreds (or thousands) of other toys filling your house, it might be worth building a little shrine to it. The Super7 ThunderCats line is a pretty great one and it's not exactly huge yet - but it will be, if you get this, and you might want to consider it. I don't know if it will be on display anywhere else before funding ends in September, but I really wish you could have seen this up close. It's really something.

SDCC More Stuff (post 3 of many)
It turns out Hyatt blocks my ability to reach some sites, including the FTP to upload these files. So you'll be seeing this late. Here's some of what I hoped you would see Friday morning.
Hasbro Star Wars from Friday |
Hasbro Star Wars on Friday added a lot of stuff - the retro figures, the HasLab Ghost, a Life Day Chewbacca, new Holiday 6-inch figures, and probably some stuff I missed. You'll even see some more "why are these so expensive?" deluxe boxed Vintage figures.
Factory Entertainment on Preview Night |
Never one to let me down, Jim from Factory Entertainment walked me through new Star Trek prop replicas while I spied big ship models including one from . I wish you were there to see what I saw - the quality is amazing, the lighting is superb, and the price is probably not all that bad considering what it would cost to hire someone to make these things.
Hasbro Marvel on Thursday |
While I didn't get in-depth coverage, you can see some pics I got of Hasbro Marvel from Preview Night too. There are Disney+ waves, X-Men 97 cartoon toys, and some other goodies. Worth a look!
LM Treasures on Preview Night |
We saw LM Treasures from Preview Night while walking around. They had life-size statues of Marvel Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and more alongside Warner Bros. cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny. They're for superstar high rollers - the kind of people who probably skipped SDCC this year, but there's always the internet to order these things.
Hasbro G.I. Joe on Preview Night |
Celebrating decades of Hasbro G.I. Joe, I got some pictures of what appear to be some late 1980s 2-ups or paint masters or what have you - it was cool! Sgt. Slaughter, Cobra Commander (Battle Armor), and more.
Jazwares Star Wars on Preview Night |
Mini-ships! Jazwares Star Wars had some excellent displays of Hoth, a space battle, and some exclusives. They really look great given the small size.
Super7 on Preview Night |
New TMNT and a big playset! Super7 threw down the gauntlet and offered up a giant Cat's Lair playset from ThunderCats as well as more great ReAction Figures and Ultimates! toys.
Entertainment Earth on Preview Night |
Home base! Entertainment Earth is where I work and there were some great items for sale including a first-out for the Magneto Helmet from Hasbro. You could also pick up new Funko figures, the new remasters Black Ranger, a glow-in-the-dark Boo Berry and glow Twilight Zone, and a heck of a lot more.
Star Wars Art on Preview Night |
Custom helmets, signed puzzles, and candles! Star Wars Art was on display all over the place, and here are some of the highlights that I caught with my camera.
The Rest on Preview Night |
There's more! The Rest of my preview night photos are in here. We'll update the rest of Saturday in the coming days, hopefully tomorrow. Here you can see some shots of Good Burger and Doctor Who booths.

Classic Review: Onell Design Glyos Neo Aves Exellis Action Figure from 2013
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted 10 years ago today! The Onell Design Glyos Neo Aves Exellis Action Figure is very red - and not half bad. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!

Review: Hasbro Transformers Rise of the Beasts Beast Battle Masters Cheetor Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Fun and weird! The Hasbro Transformers Rise of the Beasts Beast Battle Masters Cheetor Figure is arguably more of an accessory, but he has decent articulation and works as a nice forearm-mounted accessory. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

16bit.com On Bluesky
Via Bluesky: adam16bit.bsky.social! Along with Threads and the work of one John Mastodon, it's another social account I have set up that I have no idea if anyone is going to bother to use. If you haven't seen it, it looks a lot like Twitter with less functionality and even fewer accounts. So far. I believe I remember hearing it has some sort of Mastodon compatibility, but heck if I can figure it out as of yet.
Right now I would describe the service as like store-brand Twitter. It's fine. It's not fully fleshed-out and so far none of the people I see outside the toy world seem to be there.

SDCC More Stuff (post 4 of many)
I'm almost done with the Comic-Con dump. I got about 6 more galleries total, including today's. I don't know if you've ever had to do meetings and snap picture in between said meetings while trying to remember everything everyone is trying to tell you when you're used to sitting in the same chair for 12-13 hours a day, but wow, that's an adjustment.
Funko Fundays: Camp Fundays |
Funko Fundays is a thing I have been incredibly fortunate to see more than once for reasons. This year, over 3,000 fans went outside to watch Funko peeps Mike Becker and Brian Mariotti introduce goofy skits and terrible sandwiches (and no creamed corn, if you can believe it) while revealing new products and doing giveaways not unlike a local TV kid's show. (Ladmo Bags, for those of you who grew up in Phoenix.) It was a pretty nice event and the last thing I saw before having to go back home this year.
I'll post more galleries this week, but you've probably seen most of this stuff elsewhere. Next up: more Hasbro.

Star Wars Review: Han Solo (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Han Solo (The Vintage Collection). It's a new-ish figure. He has no jacket, but he's $16.99. Much of the tooling is recycled from the Solo: A Star Wars Story figure. It's not bad per se, but it not being a 100% new sculpt at this price may leave you not loving the shortcomings of the old-style legs and hoping it could be as good as some of the all-new figures we've had in the last couple of years. Read the whole review.

SDCC More Stuff (post 5 of many)
As we move along, there are more things to post. Because of course there are.
Mattel Jurassic Park |
Mattel Jurassic Park showed off their doomed crowdfunding project, which made for a great diorama display. I could totally see wanting one in a big glass case in your living room, but without the dirt and the plants and all the dinosaurs, it's just really expensive toy doors.
Funko Fundays: Camp Fundays |
Hasbro Transformers kept adding stuff and I had to swing by to shoot Medix - a Walgreens exclusive that sounds kinda like it might get wonky distribution again - along with Strongarm and the already-released Armada Megatron. I'm still not sure I'll be buying another version of this Megatron since my original is in great shape, and was cheaper, and is already in the house with a knife.
Next up: the rest.

Jurassic Park Crowdfund: The Gates Update
Via Mattel Creations: Jurassic World The Gates Crowdfund continues to stumble in its final day at 30% funded and 1,532 backers at press time. Mattel rejiggered the tiers for stretch goals during Comic-Con in an effort to make it a little more doable, but it looks like it's not remotely doable.
But all hope is not lost - an unlicensed, third-party toymaker Ramentoy has revealed some plans to do some of their own gates at a lower price

An Entertainment Earth exclusive! Super7 Universal Monsters Official World Famous Super7 Monsters! Creature from the Black Lagoon (Super She Creature) Glow-in-the-Dark ReAction Figure is technically still available, and it looks great. It glows nicely too. SDCC More Stuff (post 6 of 6)
I got a few random shots walking around, and this is the end of my photo card. I have some more stuff on the Game Boy Cameras, which I hope to post next week.
Unbox Industries |
Unbox Industries showed off their Uzumaki Kire Goshima and Azami Kurotani busts. It's unusual, it's strange, and at $65 they're almost shockingly inexpensive for this kind of collectible. $65 might get you a couple of Hasbro figures these days, so a bust that looks like you're teetering on the edge of sense seems like a steal.
The Rest of Walking Around |
The rest of it was pretty good too with throwback VHS rental booths, the Misfits as Masters of the Universe, a Blue Beetle costume, a life-size E.T., and way more stuff than you need in your house.
Next up: the Game Boy Camera pictures. But that might be next week

Star Wars Review: Tusken Raider (The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Tusken Raider (The Retro Collection). He's a little different - the silver coloring and head sculpt deviate a little from the original, likely giving you another reason to pick up what is effectively another variant in your old figure collection. Read the whole review.

Classic Review: Takara-Tomy Beast Saga Guarl Action Figure from 2013
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted 10 years ago today! The Takara-Tomy Beast Saga Guarl Action Figure was part of an awesome Japanese line-up of a line that could have been the next Battle Beasts. Considering how short-lived it was, maybe it was! Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!
