Boglins Return in 2021
|
Via Kickstarter: Boglins¨ World Domination. The puppets came out in the late 1980s and were often seen on action figure aisles next to the likes of Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters, early TMNT, BraveStarr, and Battle Beasts. And Transformers. And G.I. Joe. Those that have them loved them - but they didn't last long.
Kings Vlobb, Drool, and Dwork are first up with cool repaints and other editions coming later. Pricing is around $40 each.

The Third Bluestar Wave of The Outer Space Men
|
Via Gary: Bluestar Outer Space Men Series 3 Revealed, Pricing . The good news: Cyclops, Orbitron, and Gemini are big beefy balls of blue plastic that should light up a dark room quite nicely. The bad news? The 3-pack is set at $90, an increase of $5 per figure compared to previous waves. And a lot more than the $10 they charged 10 years ago. That's inflation - the previous two waves are also still available at press time.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Selects Rotorstorm Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's newish! So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Back to the Future III Playmobil Incoming?

Via The PlaymoFriends forums: More Back to the Future III Playmobil? It was not clear if this image was a tease, a mock-up, or a fan image.
But I certainly hope it's real. The forum has a lot of scans of upcoming 2021 sets, including a zeppelin, tons of figures, more Scooby-Doo, and (so far) no new licenses.

New NES Cartridge Today: Matt Hughson's "From Below"
|
Via Matt Hughson: Sales begin November 9th at 5PM GMT (9AM PST, 11AM CST, 12 Noon EST), but are expected to sell out fast. Bookmark http://frombelowgame.com, and set a reminder!. It's US $60 (plus shipping I assume) and is basically a spin on Tetris-style puzzle games.
Since getting a new NES game for the holidays is something I liked to do as a kid, I think I'll get it if it's available. According to previous tweets, the first run is expected to be around 100 boxed banana yellow cartridges.

Amazon Gets Transformers Botropolis Rescue Mission
|
Via Amazon (this may get us a commission if you buy): Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Galactic Odyssey Collection Botropolis Rescue Mission 6-Pack, Amazon Exclusive, Ages 8 and Up, 5.5-inch is hard to decipher. It's the two Micromasters bases molds in new colors - one of which seems to have a new name - plus some Micromasters teams and what appears to be Doubledealer's rocket in white. The whole thing is meant to interact with Sky-Lynx.
It's basically new, but Overair is very similar to Airwave's colors, and Ironworks looks like Fort Max' little buddy. The four Micromasters don't even seem to have names listed here, which is both disappointing and a refreshingly honest take on the chance that you will bother to learn them in the first place.

Reed Pop 2021 Convention Updates
|
Via Phil: Emerald City Comic Con is now set for December 2-5, 2021 and C2E2 in Chicago is the following weekend, for December 10-12, 2021.
For an organization to schedule two consecutive weekends in far away places, right as the holidays are kicking off and retailers are probably less inclined to travel for business due to needing to manage their own regular orders, is an interesting choice. No doubt the good news on a possible COVID-19 vaccine for spring are leading people to extreme levels of optimism right now, even though they haven't been rolled out and the trials aren't yet finished - a lot can happen between now and then, but by staking out a place on the calendar you can be sure there won't be competing conventions at that time.
It would be amazing if there's a vaccine, a system to check people to confirm they got the vaccine, no mutations, and the drive to hold two back-to-back celebrations in a 10-day period. AMC theater stock prices shot up and gun manufacturer stocks have gone down a bit, so remember that future events, such as these, will affect you in the future.

Playmobil Does More Back to the Future, Dino-Riders?
|
Via amClicks: Novedades Alemania Enero-Julio 2021. For those of you who don't sprechen sie language that is not English, it's a look at Playmobil sets released up until July.
Volkswagen sets join new police, City Life, more Everdreamerz, Dreamworks Dragons, and Back to the Future - a 2015 Hill Valley set includes a hoverboard, Griff, Future Doc, a pond, and a police bike. You also get Marty's 4x4 from 1985, complete with defeated Biff and Jennifer.
What really surprised me, though, is a new Dinosaurs theme with mech parts. It's like Dino-Riders, which Mattel is starting up again through army men-sized toys. Playmobil's are a lot more impressive with clip-on armor and rocket launchers, making them larger than the original 1980s Tyco line.

More Lanard Alien Collection at Walmart
|
Via Walmart, where I saw and bought one: Alien Super Set with Power Loader, Action Figures and Accessories Value Box. For $20 you get 3 male humans (same as the previously released figures) and 3 Xenomorph bugs (newly recolored.) If you bought the other set, you're basically paying $20.00 for 3 new aliens - a good deal. If you missed them before, the whole package is actually not a bad deal - it would be better with Ripley, of course. Or perhaps some aliens colored to match the films.
These may not be in toy aisles, but rather giant swaths of aisles filled with $20 exclusive gift boxes from many manufacturers - I just peeked in and was surprised to see this. It's goofy, but $20 would have been a good price for this in the 1990s.
What's more, 7-inch scale Lanard Aliens are on the way in 2021. You have to sift through this YouTube video but it's impressive. They seem to be upsized versions of existing toys, in new colors, none of which match the movies. There's a blue Aliens Xenomorph, a white Alien version, and a gold/bronze Alien 3 dogburster. I have no idea what they will cost, but I assume $10 or less.

Imaginext Surround Sound Batcave at Target, $50.99
|
Via my friend Phil: Fisher-Price Imaginext DC Super Friends Batcave is on sale for $50.99 in stores. At press time it's $124.99 online, but I went to a store Sunday evening and sure enough, it rang up at $50.99. Brickseek and Target.com shows them as sold out all over town, but PopFindr shows stores have 0-1 each - your mileage may vary.
My store did not have it by the Imaginext, but rather by numerous big doll house-style toys closer to the bicycles. We were there hunting groceries and other sale things we needed, and I picked one up. It's worth the $50.99 if you have kids or a lot of Imaginext toys of your own.
It took me about 20 minutes to put it together. The figures aren't as snazzy as some of the ones I've already got, but the playset is a marvel of toy engineering. Virtually no paint can be found on the playset - it's like a giant, mutant Tim Mee Battle Mountain. I have a lot of big toys, and this may be bigger than most of them - I have no idea where it's going to live yet. If you're stupid, you should also run out and buy one.

Target Gets Transformers X-Men X-Spance
|
Via Target: Transformers Generations -- Transformers Collaborative: Marvel Comics X-Men Mash-Up, Ultimate X-Spanse looks like a retool of Studio Series Jetfire, but it's $64.99 and comes in a Toy Biz-esque box. It follows the likes of Maverick, Ectotron, and Gigawatt.
The set includes energy blasts and micro Wolverine and Sabretooth figures, which is how you know it's aping the 1990s Toy Biz style. Target has an early window now, with GameStop and Hasbro Pulse selling it in March. It's sort of like the Gigawatt and original Ectotron situations.

Playmobil Van Gogh, Rembrandt Exclusive to Rijks Museum Shop
|
If you like Playmobil (and oh, do we) Rijiks Museum Shop in the Netherlands added self-portrait figures of Vincent Van Gogh and Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn for 5.95 Euros each. Plus shipping - if you're American, a lot of shipping. It may be cheaper to buy these from someone flipping them on eBay from overseas, as VAT plus shipping changes two figures for 11.90 Euros to a whopping 36.40 Euros.
Other exclusive sets still available include The Night Watch, The Milkmaid, and Marten & Oopjen. These haven't made it over to the USA in traditional channels, but you can find them on eBay for prices near - or possibly slightly less - than they would be directly. Good hunting.

The Last Super - Super NES Game
|
Via Dr. Ludos: The Last Super - Happy 30th Birthday SNES! is a pay-what-you-want (free) download or as a cartridge for your Super NES. It's pretty good - it's a hot potato game where you juggle the last copy of Super Metroid between a bunch of game systems. You wouldn't have bought it at full price in the 1990s, but as a nifty diversion on your ROM-playing console or as a collectible, it's pretty neat.
If your dad used to bring you home a floppy of Mac shareware in the late 1980s, you may know what to expect.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Selects Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's newish! The Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Selects Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack is sold out and I really hope they run more - the figure itself is just fine, but his accessory pack is well worth the $30. With a Soundwave tape deck, Megatron gun mode, axes, maces, blasters, drills, cages, and so much more it's a steal at $30 - and even better if you got your order in early when they were $20! So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

New Transformers Netflix - Earthrise on December 30
|
Via Twitter: All seems lost, but the war rages on. Transformers: War For Cybertron Earthrise debuts December 30.. The "Siege" segment went up over the summer and it was OK - obviously it lacks the color and general gee-whiz-ness of kid-aimed shows, but it had a couple of neat ideas. Its treatment of Soundblaster was particularly clever, and worth keeping/stealing for future reboots.
It's better than the Go90/Machinima shows, but it probably won't displace your previous favorite cartoons or comics as your new go-to continuity for the classic characters.
Unlike Siege, this new chapter has the benefit of actually potentially still having Earthrise toys on-shelf right now - assuming they appear in the show, of course. Siege drove toy popularity and caused secondary market prices to spike, so if there's anything you missed that you wanted to get, maybe you will want to go buy those right now.
