Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Spoilers Inside Action Figure Set (Nemesis Prime)
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A mystery! The Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Spoilers Inside Action Figure Set (Nemesis Prime) seems to be the best of the $60 blind box toys to date. You probably want this one. He has a lot of extra gear and was sold at Walmart, Entertainment Earth, and Big Bad Toy Store - and is coming to Japan in a non-mystery box. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Star Wars Review: R5-Series Astromech Droid White with Red Panels (2015 Edition)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R5-Series Astromech Droid White with Red Panels (2015 Edition). Since they had the body, they repainted it, and we got some pretty nifty variations on the old Bounty Hunter droid. Mine has CZ arms, which look neat since one of the shoulders is painted a slightly different color. These things sometimes look like they were assembled by Jawas. Read the whole review.

Star Wars Review: Moff Gideon (The Retro Collection)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Moff Gideon (The Retro Collection). The Darksaber is the old Bespin/Jedi Luke lightsaber, but in black. The blaster pistol is new. The vinyl cape is retro, and on this particular figure seems like a good stylistic choice despite the vinyl capes being phased out of new characters by 1982. Read the whole review.

Star Wars Review: B-R72 (Droid Depot Line Look)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: B-R72 (Droid Depot Line Look). It's part of a big droid boxed set being sold at Disney theme parks (or eBay) right now. If you can find it, and squint, maybe you'll see it as a DHL mascot. I like it. Read the whole review.

NES Newness: Demakes and Indies
|
Via Parisoft: Street Fighter II - Nostalgic Edition Demo. Right now it's only playable as Ryu, but it is impressive in OpenEMU. There are voice clips and pretty good animations - I hope they build it out some more. Parisoft also made an excellent full game of Berzerk for NES. Parisoft does work that can, as an understatement, be described as genuinely impressive.
The fireball timing is tricky, I had an easier time pulling it off on a keyboard than my NES Advantage. Go figure. It's a free demo.
You can also grab Mine Mayhem, another free/pay what you want indie NES game.
good_tune's RC2 Rally is coming to NES by of Neodolphino Productions. It's a 1-player racing game and there's a special offer card inside last weekend's release of Gold Guardian Gun Girl, which is hitting mailboxes now. There are no known plans for selling it any other way, but an additional run of GGGG is on the way.

NESert Golfing: Now for Famicom Disk System
|
Via the makers of Lizard: NESert Golfing for Famicom Disk System! You can get the files for it - or NES/Famicom - at this link. It's free.
Inspired by Desert Golfing, it's a fun little putting game. I played it a bit and it's fun, from a 1980s Mac or PC shareware kind of a way. Quite possibly the perfect companion for when you're on a phone meeting. You should download it, it's 32kB for the cartridge version and twice that for FDS. I don't know the difference.

Mattel Theme Park Coming to Glendale, AZ
|
Via Kerry: Glendale getting Mattel theme park with Hot Wheels, Thomas attractions! Glendale is in west Phoenix, basically. McFarlane Toys used to have a store out there, there's a hockey arena out there, between the Arrowhead and Desert Sky Malls. This is how I tell directions.
They say: "The adventure park will feature a Hot Wheels roller coaster, go-kart experiences, an indoor Thomas section and a full-size passenger train based on the popular childrenÕs character." There was no mention of Barbie or Mega Bloks, or Monster High, or their other variously popular brands.
It's a curious location, but not unheard-of in terms of randomness. LEGOland's placement in Carlsbad, CA makes about as much sense, but if there are Hot Wheels fans wanting something to do after the Barret-Jackson car auction in Scottsdale (that's the east side of town), this would make some degree of sense. The real question I have is this - does it come with a Mattel company store? I don't get to go to El Segundo as much as I would like these days.

Robo Force Leaving ToyFinity for Nacelle
|
Via Deadline: Nacelle Company Acquires Robo Force From Toyfinity; Plans New TV Series, Toys, Merchandise. Jon Kent of ToyFinity previously made a great line-up of Glyos-compatible figures for the brand.
What's particularly notable is that the announcement is for something of an obscure franchise with minimal fiction or fanfare, while also highlighting the existing rights holder. So get that ToyFinity stuff while you can.
Nacelle made some toy shows on Netflix, so presumably you'll be seeing some streaming robot cartoons soon. But what about Mordles?

Imaginext DC Slammers Series 2
|
Via MyGrodd: Imaginext DC Slammers Series 2! Superman, Supergirl, Batman, and such aren't too surprising - but there's also a glow-in-the-dark Bane and a pretty cool Poison Ivy in there too.
I have no idea when these are coming out, but you can bet you'll be reading about Glow Bane as soon as I can find one.

NES Street Fighter II Patreon Project
|
Via Parisoft: Physical Cartridge in Box + Digital copy of [Parisoft's] latest Game. Currently, that game is SFII NE.
They need 100 Patrons to do it, and they've got 5. (And I'm probably going to do it.) $80 gets you the game shipped to the USA, complete with box and manual. Is it worth it? It's a weird art project. So probably.
While Parisoft has yet to release a cartridge, they made a great Berzerk port for NES (worth the $2.) They also are working with Broke Studio for an NES port of the pretty neat L'Abbaye des Mortis, which I had not heard of but has been ported to a bunch of consoles. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive port (also a cheap/free ROM) lets you cycle between multiple skins of the game, and it's pretty neat.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Authentics Bravo Autobot Grimlock Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Cheap, if you can find him! The Hasbro Transformers Authentics Bravo Autobot Grimlock Action Figure isn't huge, but it's nice. It's pretty amazing for $5 or so, but it's by no means the best Grimlock you can buy right now. It's not bad though. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Star Wars Review: Jawa (Kenner, The Black Series 6-Inch)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Jawa (Kenner, The Black Series 6-Inch). It's still in stock on Amazon for $20, and I would argue it's very much worth it. Sure, it lacks one of the blasters from the previous release, but those cloth robes are super cool. Read the whole review.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Finally Coming to US TurboGrafx-CD
|
Via Limited Run Games: Castlevania Rondo of Blood is getting a physical retro rerelease on Turbo Duo! Follow http://limitedrungames.com for more details to come. #LRG3. That's kind of shocking - it's a good game and something of a lost-to-the-US masterpiece. An English-language dub does exist (as do hacks) but there was never a US release of the Turbo Duo CD. Of course, most of us never got a working Turbo Duo, so hopefully the Analogue Duo is coming pretty soon.
There's no info on if it's English (or German, or Japanese, or a mix) yet - but this is pretty exciting.

Virtual Boy Minus VR Equals Real Boy
|
Via Shank Mods on YouTube: I Made a Handheld Virtual Boy (The Real Boy). With Virtual Boy guts, the Real Boy is basically a scratch-built way to play these games in your hands - or on TV via HDMI - and it's pretty spectacular.
It's a great concept, and it's never going to be a mass-produced item. But who doesn't want one?

Review: Fisher-Price Imaginext 20th Anniversary Figures FP-636
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Fisher-Price Imaginext 20th Anniversary Figures FP-636 seems to be in short supply - I only saw it in grocery stores so far. It's not the same as the 2018 X-Ray Man - different head, different color, slightly different chest pattern, and a new accessory. Now I wish they just did an X-Ray Woman, but I'll take it. It's probably just different enough to make you mad, but it's so cheap I don't really see any reason to get upset. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Star Wars Review: Greedo (Kenner, The Black Series 6-Inch)

Hasbro Pulse Gets Transformers Shattered Glass Goldbug
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Generations Shattered Glass Collection Autobot Goldbug & IDWÕs Shattered GlassÑ Goldbug (Exclusive Hasbro Pulse Variant Cover). It's an update of the BotCon exclusive, which is quite excellent - except the colors are a little more like Megatronia's limbs (Trickdiamond comes to mind) and he has a new head sculpt. The body is the same as Cliffjumper/Bumper/Bugbite, with the multi-part bazooka. It seems to work better here, and I think the coloring here is surprisingly excellent.
Sadly, he is $30. Is this fair? Somewhat. The $20 deluxe class toys are going up to $23 this summer. There's an exclusive comic book, which is probably about $4 (or possibly $5?) of the cost. So that's $27 - Pulse has been charging a smidgen more for its exclusives lately, so it's up to you if it's worth the upcharge - and shipping charges. I ordered one.
