Star Wars Review: Flametrooper (Gaming Greats, The Black Series)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Flametrooper (Gaming Greats, The Black Series). New for 2021, this GameStop exclusive retooled and reconfigures the classic Snowtrooper into something that looks more like a McQuarrie Concept design. Read the whole review.
Review: Healey Made Assassin (R-Complex) Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Retro and also new! The Healey Made Assassin (R-Complex) Action Figure is a 2021 release inspired by some of the best Kenner had to offer in the 1980s. This one has a swappable head, plus a blaster you can mount on the back. And a tail! Let's not forget the tail. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Via Broke Studio: LÕAbbaye des Morts (NES). The game has been on the PC and a number of other platforms, including the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. At press time, there are eight left.
This one was made by Parisoft, who also did the marvelous Street Fighter II NES demo and a great Berzerk port.
Star Wars Review: Han Solo (Endor, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Han Solo (Endor, The Vintage Collection) . First released in 2006 - and again in 2011 - this figure has been updated for 2021, and is one of few figures to actually look worse with the photo real paint. The coat is an improvement, though! Read the whole review.
Playmobil Fi?ures Series 20 Review at Playkingdoms
Via Playkingdoms: FiÀures: Series 20 - 70148 + 70149. Pink and blue bags are shown, with some really stunning figures. The Dia de los Muertos boy and girl figures have stunning paint jobs. The puppet busker is one of the weirdest ideas I've seen, but it works.
The series is pretty new and may be in a specialty store near you, in the USA. I don't believe any US mass-market big box stores are currently carrying these or possibly any Playmobil products, and of course toy specialty chains are dead here now.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Demake for Genesis
Via Pigsy: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Remake for Sega Megadrive/Genesis - Dev Diary 1. Two videos are shown of the work-in-progress demake, which puts the PlayStation/Saturn game on the 16-bit Sega console. And so far, it doesn't look all that bad - odds are the audio won't translate as nicely, but it's an impressive conversion so far and it says a lot about how games that were "impossible" to do on older hardware could probably have been done, with some concessions.
Even with hardware and color limitations, stuff still looks pretty good so far. A Sega CD port might be pretty close to perfect, or even a 32X version as was spoken of in legend. There's no known commercial release for the game and it might never be released at all - but it's neat to see!
Via Bitmapsoft/JJ Games: Tales of Monsterland. Regular and "Dark" editions of the game are up for pre-order on September 11, with orders filling in about 2 weeks. Which is pretty amazing if it works.
The regular edition is £40.00 - about US $55 - before shipping. Unfortunately it means it's not as cheap as original and Game Boy Color US releases in the 1980s and 1990s, but adjusted for inflation, it's pretty close.

New! But there was also one in 2008. The Hasbro Transformers Shattered Glass Blurr riffs on a BotCon exclusive from a few years ago and brings it back as something bigger, cheaper, and with fewer gimmicks - but it looks good. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Eaglemoss to Make U.S.S. Cerritos from Lower Decks
Via StarTrek.com: Eaglemoss Reveals U.S.S. Cerritos Model. Due early next year, the ship brings you all of the quasi-90s look and feel with none of the screaming of Paramount+'s series that, probably, you still haven't seen yet.
Because it was Star Trek Day, a lot of panels and videos were put up including a trailer for Picard season 2, which very much seems like classic episodes that weren't afraid to address current issues through the lens of space adventure. Hopefully they go easy on the eye trauma this time.
Star Wars Review: Luke Skywalker (Hoth, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (Hoth, The Vintage Collection) . This is a figure from a few years ago, updated with new paint - and he's different! The skin looks a lot better this time around, but once you put the mask on he's not all different. Read the whole review.
Galactic Hunter has posted a Adam's Star Wars Newsletter #4! It's the darling of 1990s dial-up Star Wars internet news, but with a list of this week's new announcements and some rambling. Highlights include: Razor Crest delay, new Bib Fortuna figure, and so many repaints. Read it here!
New figures from The Vintage Collection join an exclusive shared Greef Karga from The Black Series and Rey's lightsaber from the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
Also at Target and Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Collaborative: Universal Monsters Dracula Mash-Up, Draculus. It's branded Universal Monsters, but is just Mindwipe with a cape and some other minor changes - and it's $32. Walmart had a reissue of Mindwipe in a G1 box for $20 earlier this year. this Halloween-themed exclusive doesn't seem to have anything to do with the movies, but it'll ship after Thanksgiving this year.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Deluxe Buzzworthy Origin Bumblebee Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's called 84 - as in level 8-4 in Super Mario Bros. - and costs about US $75 to hang out with his stash for 90 minutes. (I'd pay it.) If you haven't run out of articles this month, it's a good read.
Via amClicks: Figuras Serie 21: Fotos y comentarios. Every year Playmobil puts out at least two series of mystery bagged figures, the first of which tends to appear around January - and this seems to be next year's lot.
There are a lot of interesting choices - a butcher, a paintball player, a mechanic, what appears to be Alucard, a fish woman, a French woman, a ribbon dancer, some sort of valkyrie, and a ninja to name a few.
Star Wars Review: Luke Skywalker (Endor, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (Endor, The Vintage Collection). New for 2021, figure takes a 2010 Jedi Luke and adds a new head and new accessories - and it's pretty great if you can find one, exclusively at Walmart. Read the whole review.
Via Retro-Bit: Alway's Awakening: The 8-Bit Edition. This is really interesting - there's a $60 fancy deluxe Nintendo Entertainment System cartridge with bells and whistles, and also a $20 USB stick with the NES ROM (ROMcarts, emulators, etc.) too - so you can buy a ROM on a physical thing. This is neat, and I'd like to see more things like it.
It's an indie game getting an NES port with supposedly minimal loss of fidelity, which is impressive - it's expected to ship spring of 2022, and pre-orders are open until October 17.
Via Record Store Day: 'Weird Al' Yankovic/Osaka Popstar - Beat on The Brat (Maxi Single). It's been a long time since there was a new record from "Weird Al" Yankovic, and this EP has a mix of existing tracks on a new slab of 12-inch vinyl. There are four total versions of "Beat on the Brat" between Mr. Yankovic and the band Osaka Popstar, plus a couple of other Ramones covers from each act. It should be good.
2,500 copies will go on sale for Record Store Day come Black Friday this November. They should all be on eBay and Discogs the following Monday.
Via my pal Shaun again: Stern Pinball has a Godzilla table coming! This table is based on the classic kaiju movies, so you'll see a lot of the lower-budget man-in-monster stuff that so many kids of the 20th century grew up with and love. There are three versions, and the cheap one is just under $7,000. Here's a trailer.
Via Limited Run Games Clubo'fun Newsletter: A not-too-subtle hint in the fold-out volume issue 3 that shipped with my copy of Bloodstained: Circle of the Moon 2 had this to say about the super-rare Konami game:
"We hear a certain ultra-rare GBA ninja game may be swinging its way back into action soon. Fitting! Its policeman protagonist sure wouldn't want you to pirate the game."
The game was overlooked in its day and a bare legit cart in good shape is close to $400 these days. A reissue would certainly be welcome - by me, maybe not those of you who paid $500.

It's a car for your LEGO guys! The Mattel Hot Wheels Tooned Pixel Shaker is a 2021 redeco of an older car, but it's on shelf now and you can put a LEGO guy in it. As with most weird cars, it's worth the dollar. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

Trust Me Vodka x DEVO. I don't recommend that you drink, I don't know/endorse this product, but I do love Devo and I do report on a lot of licensed products. Spuds may be amused that a potato vodka with a Devo license exists, but at $350, also not.
In the world of collecting stuff, rarely does anything alcohol-related register as amusing enough to share - well, maybe that old Mr. Spock decanter. But not much else.

Happy Meal Toys: McDonald's Choosing Paper over Plastic
Via CNN: McDonald's is giving its Happy Meal toys a makeover. While I haven't had a Happy Meal in a while, I have had the competition's equivalent and sometimes they are good about giving toys (Sonic) and sometimes not (Burger King frequently substituted a food item.) But what matters is an interesting cultural shift as McDonald's is one of the bigger toy sellers in the USA, as evidenced by this quote:
"For McDonald's young customers, that means instead of some plastic figurines, they'll get 3-D paper-based toys they can put together themselves. Some paper-based toys, like PokŽmon trading cards, are already in the US market. More options, which could include board games with traditional plastic pieces swapped out and other types of toys, will start appearing in US Happy Meals in January [2022]."
As a toy fan, it's amazing to see an end of an era. As a kid they put bags of LEGO bricks, Playmobil figures, real Hot Wheels cars, Popoids, and countless other small and collectible figures and toys - many of which I still have after all these years and am only just now slowly parting with. I missed out on some good stuff as their marketing diminished, but real LEGO bricks were replaced with cheap, incompatible figures and that has proven somewhat depressing too. Well, enjoy it while it lasts.

At press time it's just under 9,000 supporters with 11,000 needed and 18 days to go. It's pretty clearly going to make production, so you can order one if you like.
As of now, the line includes a 6-pack of knights, a castle, and at least two smaller projectile-based catapult/crossbow sets. Imaginext has been running for just over 20 years and has gone from a ubiquitous entry-level kid figure line to an increasingly obscure series as fewer stores stock it (and American toy stores just plain vanish.) They're pretty good, if you don't have any it's worth a look. Currently the only major licenses they hold are good ones - Batman/DC Comics, Minions, and Jurassic World.
Via AdAge: CarlÕs Jr. and Hardees bring Adult Swim toys to combo meals. While I haven't been to a Carl's Jr. in over a decade - and the ones near me closed and also burned down last month - it's nice to see some love being given to some shows that haven't had new episodes in quite some time. From the article:
"While kids' meals across the industry often come with toys included in the cost, taking combo meals 'for an Adult Swim' will add $1 to the price of a large combo meal. For collectors who covet toys from shows such as 'Robot Chicken' and 'Aqua Teen Hunger Force,' $1 might be seen as a steal."
The article makes mention that this is the first time they're targeting adults, which, well, you've read this site. Back in September 2001 I wrote on and reported on McDonald's carrying Bionicle toys that proved quite popular with collectors as well as kids, and don't get me started on all the Disney and Pokemon and other promotions over the years.
Adult Swim turned 20 earlier this month, and just earlier this week McDonald's pledged to replace plastic toys with paper to improve margins as Chinese manufacturing and freight becomes increasingly expensive in an era where you can't market directly to kids anymoreto improve margins as food prices increase for the environment.
Star Wars Review: Darth Maul (Mandalore, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Darth Maul (Mandalore, The Vintage Collection) . Like Ahsoka, this one is incredibly impressive - the vest is a separately molded piece, the paint is incredible, and the articulation is top-notch. Read the whole review.
Not only do you get six new figures in this set, but you get upgrade parts for the DeLorean and a ton of cool olde-thyme accessories like a camera, a tombstone, and four cardboard backdrops.

Via AMClicks: Autor Tema: Novedades Alemania Enero-Julio 2022 (Le’do 22139 veces). A forum has posted a lot more higher-res pictures of new items from Playmobil Dino-Rise, Specials, gift sets, and more. Of note, the dinosaurs seem to have replaced dinosaurs with lava mine playsets. There's a new "Friends" figure that's a ninja that seems to be drawing on what the kids really love these days - Naruto.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Dinobot Slug with Daniel Witwicky Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Good luck finding this one! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Dinobot Slug with Daniel Witwicky Action Figure is a nice big update that I would assume has no need for third party panel fillers, but apparently someone decided feet filler is a necessity. These people are ridiculous. This is an impressive, big figure that I am absolutely loving. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Puffer is inspired by a Mexican IGA variant of Huffer in Pipes' coloring, while Road Ranger is based on a GoBots toy - who shares no colors, but was used in an e-HOBBY exclusive set about 17 years ago.

Star Wars Review: Offworld Jawa (Arvala-7, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Offworld Jawa (Arvala-7, The Vintage Collection). This figure will require the egg - which it includes! Fake Kenner is back in fashion! The Hasbro Marvel Legends 375 Spider-Man Action Figure is significantly better than what Kenner would or could have made in the 1980s, but it's nice, and it's fun. There's still room to do a real 1980s-style figure, but it's a small figure with 1980s-style packaging - and that's pretty good. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!
Via Thumpasaurus: Thumpaverse. I saw them open for Too Many Zooz a couple of years ago and they put on a good show. This is their second full-length album, currently only up as a digital album. I see no vinyl or CD releases yet.
