Review: Hasbro Marvel Legends 375 Luke Cage, Power Man Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
The last new mold to review! This Hasbro Marvel Legends 375 Luke Cage, Power Man Action Figure is the end of the line for me - I'll review the metallic ones at some point later, but for now, he ends a pretty good line that didn't get too big or repetitive before ending. I hope you picked him and the others up. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Classic Review: Mattel Batman Classic TV Series The Penguin
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The Kenner Batman Classic TV Series Batman & Robin Action Figure Set was a huge deal when these guys first came out, as they were the very first action figures based on the TV show which was in licensing limbo for decades. They're still pretty neat - and other companies also made some nice figures based on the show. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!
Via Wendy's: DC Super Heroes figures (18 in all) are in the kid meals right now. The one-color figures look like they're based on classic M.U.S.C.L.E. styling, more or less.
Characters include Batman, Catwoman, Nightwing, Supergirl, Superman, Lex Luthor, Cyborg, The Cheetah, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Nubia, Sinestro, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Black Manta, and Mera.
That's a real shame - I've worked with Funko since I started in the toy biz full-time in 2005 and Brian (and a lot of people I worked with at Funko) were always extremely nice to work with over the years. (I may be footnote somewhere.) Hopefully he'll still be doing something fun in the future there.

Via Light in the Attic Records (via JVC): Yoko Kanno Cowboy Bebop 11xLP-Box. That's a lot of music - it's due for the 25th anniversary later this year, and it's $310.
That sounds like a lot. That is a lot. It's $28 per platter (most single LPs are $20-$25 these days) with no specific mention of a heavy-duty box, hardcover book of liner notes, or anything special. But this is the kind of thing that's going to be a no-brainer for a specific kind of fan, so you might want to order one... or two, if it turns out to be pre-order only. And I don't know if it is.
Via Morphcat on Kickstarter: Triple Jump: A platformer multi-cartridge for the NES. I pledged immediately - because you get Micro Mages Second Quest, Bobl, and the Space Gulls game all on a cartridge. I have the ROMs for the last two, but I had enough fun that these guys deserve some money.
Morphcat's stuff tends to be of the absolute highest quality as homebrew/posthumous NES games go, so I'd recommend it. Even though it doesn't come out for a full year. A fourth bonus mini game is also in the works... but buy it for the three named games and let's hope they make more of them.
Review: Super7 Universal Monsters The Metaluna Mutant ReAction Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
One or two per store tops? This Super7 Universal Monsters The Metaluna Mutant ReAction Figure seemed to come and go fast - and his price on eBay has bounced around. I lucked into him and Herman Munster over the summer, and they're pretty awesome. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: The Mandalorian (Prototype, The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Mandalorian (Prototype, The Retro Collection). It looks neat - and he came and went somewhat quickly. I'd say get him for the blasters, if they weren't pre-stressed in the package (at least in my case.) Read the whole review.

Via AtariAge: AtariAge + Atari. Hot on the heels of the announcement of an official HDMI emulation console ATARI 2600+, the company whose name was once synonymous with "video game" now seems to own the forums (and third-party game publisher) that put out the likes of Space Rocks and countless others over the past couple of decades.
They hired the admin as an employee too, and hopefully this means more and better output as well as better distribution of these games. I'd love to live in a world where Atari had a wholesale program distributing its hardware and software to retailers big and small across the planet - and that Sega and Nintendo might do the same with their classic hardware. I'd love to know if this was spurned on by a plan to expand the footprint of Atari games to Generation Xers (not unlike Rhino Records in the 1980s-90s with Boomers) or if this was just a way to reclaim a trademark.

Still showing up at American 99 Cents Only stores (for $1.99!) This Hasbro Marvel Thor Action Figure ha sno cape, and no hammer. And it's skinny and goofy - but that's the appeal. It's of a quality that's not unlike a bootleg, but it feels and plays a lot like 1980s action figures. If you're older and have $2, this might be a worthwhile purchase. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The Hasbro Transformers Generations Hoist gave us a neat new take on the character that you probably don't think about much, back when deluxes had a full-size comic in the box for $12.99. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!
Via HasLab: Marvel Legends HasLab Giant-Man is a massive 24-inch figure that's $199.99 and doing fine for an opening weekend.
The stretch goals include alternate face plates. The base figure also includes alternate face plates. In terms of size, the figure is comparable to Hasbro's retail $200 Transformers Titan-class figures.
Via YouTube/Paramount/etc.: Star Trek: very Short Treks | Skin a Cat | StarTrek.com. It's a goofy not-in-continuity short that brings you comedian/podcaster/TJ Miller impressionist Pete Holmes as an unnamed Captain along with Ethan Peck as Spock, Eric Bauza and Christina Millzia as multiple characters, and Bonnie Gordon as the computer.
It looks a lot like the original show and is the kind of thing it would be nice to see more of. Warner Bros. did this sort of thing with Space Ghost: Coast to Coast in the 1990s (and later, more on Adult Swim) making it a proven way to put stuff in front of aging fans with no spare time to watch a full thing. Someone might buy a Screwhead figure now. I would, anyway.
New episodes are expected every week. Also Lower Decks kicked off season four with two episodes last week.

In stores now? The Hasbro Transformers Legacy Evolution Leader G2 Universe Toxitron Figure is a Walmart exclusive that I admittedly haven't seen there more than once. It's really cool - they took the Universe concept, slapped on a G2 logo, and put it out as the centerpiece of an exclusive capsule in 2023. I love it - but I'm a little surprised I don't see it in the wild after a couple of months. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
The site Time Extension says that Wallride Games is working on it, and that they worked on Jay & Silent Bob: Mall Brawl, which I have and enjoyed quite a bit.
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: BB-YOU (2023 Pride Collection) . He's from the earlier this year - but basically looks like a regular BB-8 with a little extra color. It's OK. Read the whole review.
Review: Super7 Planet of the Apes General Ursus ReAction Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
A marvel? This Super7 Planet of the Apes General Ursus ReAction Figure is an absolutely wonderful figure that looks like he could hang out with your older toys from the 1970s. It's old now, too, so grab it while you can. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Review: Outer Space Men Bluestar Gamma-X Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Via Walmart: Scooby Doo Tiny Mights. They come in 3-packs, are sized like old M.U.S.C.L.E. figures, and are about $3.47 - you can order them at the link. But I'm reading that they're keeping them on the checklanes.
For those who like to work, there are indeed "flesh" and "glow in the dark" sets to complete. So good luck there - these guys are in tiny clear plastic Mystery Machine packaging that doubles as a storage box.
It's a good month for Keshi fans - Wendy's currently has DC Universe minis as a freebie 3-pack in kid meals. The funny thing is I was hoping Wendy's had Scooby-Doo Keshi in the pipeline, and I guess this totally negates the need for that. Good hunting, small figure fans. I went all over town to look for these, and finally found some by a cash register at the one near my house.
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: F-ZERO 99, Mortal Kombat 1, Arcade Archives ZING ZING ZIP, and over a dozen more. But only one of them is a free battle royale based on a 16-bit game from 1991.
Review: Hasbro Marvel Captain America Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
At a 99 Cents Only Store near you? This Hasbro Marvel Captain America Action Figure comes in a bag, is 3 3/4-inches tall, and sells for about two bucks. It's great - but there's no shield. But he will fit in a lot of old Kenner vehicles. I'd recommend it, even though it's not exactly fancy. If nothing else, the printed chest design is an unusual thing to see on a figure of this size. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Posted ten years ago today! The Mattel Hot Wheels Arachnorod vehicles were all over the place a year ago, and some would glow in the dark, and this is one of them. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!

In stores now - I actually saw a couple over the weekend again! The Hasbro Transformers Legacy Evolution Deluxe G2 Universe Laser Cycle Action Figure showed up in July, and remains in short supply in a lot of Walmarts - it's an exclusive. You might see Toxitron, Grimlock, or Cloudcover around here but deluxes are far and few between. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Via Hughson Videogame Publishing: From Below and From Below Pocket Pre-Orders. I got the NES port a few years ago, but I believe this is the first the Game Boy one has been on sale.
It's basically Tetris with a squid - it's a fun twist, I'd recommend giving it a whirl.

Good evening! This Super7 Universal Monsters Dracula ReAction Figure riffs on the old Kenner, and Remco, and Burger King, and Funko x Super7 figures - it's pretty good! But the cape can't come off. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Via Kickstarter: Aaling the Ghost for Game Boy Color is a new RPG, but let me answer your two big questions: it doesn't come out until 2025, and you can't back a cartridge. Some of the tiers at €15 let you get a reservation for a cartridge. I'd buy the cartridge the moment it goes on sale, it looks great!
They say: "It is a story-driven turn-based RPG staged in a fantasy world based on early Chinese folk beliefs and landscapes."
Star Wars Review: Princess Leia Organa (Slave Outfit, Custom)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Princess Leia Organa (Slave Outfit, Custom). It is an actual, real, Kenner-style figure made from an unlicensed source - and since an official release of such a character in this specific costume is unlikely, it's worth a look. It's a lot better than nothing - in fact, it's pretty excellent (albeit very expensive.) Read the whole review.

As foretold! The Healey Made Trooper (THX) Action Figure showed up in Kenner Stormtrooper colors, with a twist - he's molded in black, with white painted armor. Do read on, and come back Monday for more fun!

The new scale! "Kenner" Marvel went away for these Hasbro Marvel Spider-Man Epic Hero Series Miles Morales Action Figure figures. They're better and cheaper for what you get, but will stores be patient enough to let the line flourish and grow into something epoch-defining? Heck if I know, but Miles turned out really well. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Classic Review: Playmates Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Quark Action Figure
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The Playmates Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Quark Action Figure came out nearly 39 years ago, and was a good deal at the time. Five or six bucks was the norm for a Kenner figure, so to get something with bending knees and elbow splus a whole suite of accessories and a display base was an incredible deal. He's still pretty cheap on eBay or at comic shops too. Read on, it's a good one - and come back tomorrow for an all-new review!
There are no updates on the SAG-AFTRA strike, so it's also possible these shows may not be back, or may be back in a reduced capacity as to what kind of bits you might see (and what kind of guests you may see.)
Once the hard-working people behind everything that is responsible for what we watch that makes us what we want toys of it are back to getting paid again, the big question will be "soooo when do these movies and shows come out, and what of the toys?" A number of movies were punted from the 2024 release schedule, although a number of movies seemed to have little to no chance of being released "on time" in the first place like Ghostbusters: Afterlife 2 which was allegedly scheduled for December of 2023. Which is, honestly, seemingly unlikely given how little toy chatter there was. Heck, is that even the title?
It is also unknown which Star Wars movies are/were coming and when - this could be another opportunity to sweep a project under the rug, again, although the rug is starting to look a little crowded.
With New York Toy Fair 2023 finally kicking off this weekend, I expect we'll hear rumblings of updates and new release dates. (Many of which will, sadly, not yet be made public. There are some now they still haven't shared with the public.)

At Amazon now - did your Hasbro Pulse order get canceled? The Hasbro Transformers Legacy Evolution Voyager Nacelle Figure is a redeco of a pretty great mold from a few years ago... but without the distinctive design of his previous toy. (Specifically, Thrust's wings on a toy that's more or less Thundercracker with a blue face.) Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
It does indeed appear there's an Atomic Purple-alike, so good luck to anyone hoping to get these after the glow-in-the-dark one sold out in a couple of minutes.
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R2-S4M . This 2023 figure from Disney looks an awful lot like a figure named "Jabba's Bartender" from 2016. It's different! Read the whole review.
Review: Super7 Star Trek: The Next Generation Armus ReAction Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Behold, the skin of evil. This Super7 Star Trek: The Next Generation Armus ReAction Figure is probably on sale everywhere online right now, and you can get a good goo guy on the cheap. For $15 or less - especially less - any retro toy collection needs one. The oily finish looks great up-close, and even if he was a dorky alien concept he makes for a decent action figure. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
