A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The LEGO Minifigures Series 11 Yeti was a great little figure, but not nearly as out-there as the licensed waves and space-themed waves coming up. It's never not interesting in LEGO world. Read on!
We're taking donations for server costs! Really. One of the rewards is Q&A a few days early - you can read next Monday's installment as soon as it's ready, which can be as early as 1:00 AM my time on Monday!
If you've got a dollar a month to share, please Visit the Galactic Hunter Patreon and help cover our server costs. I'll still put in hours of work, writing, photography, and research - I just need some help making sure that the site costs me only time, and hopefully not money. Thanks for your support!
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Possibly still available online near you! The Hasbro Transformers Universal Monsters Frankenstein Crossovers Frankentron Figure takes Impactor, who was $20 in 2020, and retools him at $35. It's a high price, but as deluxe toys go he was on the taller side. Is he worth it? Well, he's certainly very cool with great new parts and excellent accessories. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
It's news, but I get a few bucks if you click and order: New LEGO City sets with a modernized Space theme at Entertainment Earth. I saw some of these in stock at Target on Monday, and pre-orders are up at some stores now too. They look like a future iteration of Futron and the like, not quite capturing the original one-color astronauts but it's like a return of an old favorite. It should be a fun line for your kids, but you can help put them together and maybe buy one of the cheaper ones for yourself. I got my eye on the LEGO 60428 City Space Construction Mech, it's cheap.
New Freezepop Album - Fog
Via Freezepop: Fog. The band came to prominence after their tracks showed up in some early rhythm games like Frequency, and have released tons of music over the last 22 years. It's good.
Backers of the last Freezepop album on Kickstarter - which was a late arrival - got told this about the new release via an update. They write: "A couple weeks back we were testing out some new gear and some new software and before we knew it (really out of nowhere within a few days) we had a roadmap for a new vaguely 'techno' record. I thought it was heading in an interesting direction that we'd never really mined before, and might be a nice little extra for you, our Kickstarter supporters. So, we finished it up the week after Christmas and dropped it on Bandcamp last night." For non-backers, it's $7 for 13 songs which I will be listening to later today.
In addition to this, a preview file "Further Exploits sneak preview" went out with 3 new songs. It isn't for sale at this time, but I listened to it and it's worth a listen if it's in your inbox right now, and you probably already know of it.
Star Wars Review: Professor Huyang (The Black Series)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Professor Huyang (The Black Series). You might actually find him in stores now. The sculpting is great, the paint is good, but the plastic reads more as "plastic" than "metal robot." But it's good - the articulation is top-notch and the design made the jump to a 6-inch figure pretty nicely. Read the whole review.
You can run it on a modified console, or an emulator, or your MiSTer device. This project adds 4MB RAM support, an English patch, and other improvements to Japan's hard-to-find port of Nocturne in the Moonlight. It is a little clunky, and there's no manual I could find, and things like the map are changed a bit. It's seemingly now UP and START.
Hopefully Konami will see it and go "Oh, let's sell this" via Limited Run Games or Steam or whatnot. The Switch shop, maybe. It would be nicer than a DMCA takedown notice.
Review: Super7 Vampira Dark Goddess of Horror ReAction Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! This Super7 Vampira Dark Goddess of Horror ReAction Figure is from last year, and is a likely hit for fans of Plan 9 or Ed Wood even if she may not look quite like a Kenner figure or exactly like the original performer. (The hair might have a little too much body.) Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Ad: Turtles of Grayskull Waves 1 and 2 Entertainment Earth
Ad: Pre-Order Waves 1 and 2 of Turtles of Grayskull! Eight figures are available, some of which are even in stock. Raphael has Ram-Man style gear, He-Man is a blue mutant, Donatello has Man-at-Arms-esque armor, and Ram Man is literally a mutant ram with horns.
Star Wars Review: General Hera Syndulla (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: General Hera Syndulla (The Vintage Collection). It's important to release a character in triplicate, and all three came out last fall. This one is 3 3/4-inches tall and has all the articulation, making it the one you'll probably want to have handy when The Ghost shows up from HasLab later this year. Read the whole review.
FlippyDrive: Game Cube Gets New, Cheap, No-Cut SD Card Slot
Via RetroRGB and Tito from Macho Nacho Productions: Flippy Drive FIRST LOOK / Notification List. This is sort of mind-blowingly cool - it's a $38 no-cut, no-solder mod. You plug it in to your Game Cube, and you can boot games from it - you can keep using the original disc drive, or use it in a GameCube without one. I don't do a lot of console mods but I do have an older purple GameCube that has been acting up in its disc drive, so this actually sounds like it would be a great way for me to get to play it some more when it comes out. Also it looks like a mod I can do without breaking anything, which is nice. It's worth a look.
Assuming it can boot the myriad Game Boy Player discs and software out there, this could make a bunch of currently "broken" hardware viable on the cheap.

It's part of a whole line of figures, but Target doesn't have a page to order him as I write this. If you want to see non-exclusives waves 1 and 2 (and you do) you can click these affiliate links and order Turtles of Grayskull at Entertainment Earth or Amazon, and we might get a few cents if you buy something from clicking those links.

Possibly still available at a Walmart near you! The Hasbro Transformers Legacy Evolution Leader Armada Universe Megatron Action Figure takes a 2002 toy, shrinks it removes the gimmicks, and adds some articulation for twice the price. Some fans are going to love it, others are going to cling tightly to the original. The colors match the original incredibly well, so it's a nice figure for kids of that era. But if you want his sidekick Mini-Con or related gimmicks, you'll need to buy an original. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: Wicket W. Warrick (The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Wicket W. Warrick (The Retro Collection). The nose paint is a little off, and the hood feels very different from the rubbery 1984 original - but it's still cute, small, and last I checked, sold out. Get this set if you can find it at retail price. Read the whole review.
Ad: Pre-order Super7 Ultimates! Dungeons & Dragons and ThunderCats! Coming later this year - that's a lot sooner than we usually have to wait - a new line of cartoon figures, bigger than Hasbro's, from D&D join a new wave of ThunderCats.
Review: Outer Space Men Cosmic Radiation Jack Asteroid Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: C1 Droid (Advent Calendar 2022). It's another droid, with bright colors, that's Christmas related, but I don't get the gag - but little brown shoes, sure. Green pants, OK. Yellow suspenders, I can't complain. If you like robot toys, it's an interesting one with a fold-out arm in his chest and two more on the head. Read the whole review.
Via me, but My Arcade makes it: Atari Gamestation Pro may be at a Target near you, in the wrong section, in clearance. It's a mini console with a bunch of built-in games and two wireless controllers. I bought it because it was on sale for $30, and those controllers had USB-C connections in back which - surprise! - you can plug in your MiSTer, PC, or Mac for a pretty handy controller. The stick handles better than a real VCS stick, and there's a menu button on it as well as other quality-of-life buttons that make it pretty handy.
However, it also has a dial from the paddle controls on it. So far I haven't been able to make those do anything with MiSTer or an emulator - if you know how to do it, or if you get one and find out, please let me know. I haven't tried the console itself yet since I bought it just for the controllers, and I can say for $30 it's a very nice controller for playing old VCS games like Berzerk, Jungle Hunt, Mario Bros., and of course Beamrider.
As to the built-in games on the system, I don't know yet, because they put an official list in a hateful YouTube video. To make it worse, it has red scrolling text on a black background that seems to exist solely to be hard to read.

Posted ten years ago today! The Hasbro Transformers Generations Waspinator was a great update of the 1990s figure, which Hasbro updated yet again a few years ago. This one still holds up nicely. Read on!

Review: Hasbro Transformers Legacy Deluxe Prime Universe Knock-Out Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Marrok (The Black Series). He's a knight, sort of, and he's rusty, kind of. But it's a nice looking toy figure. Read the whole review.
Review: Mego Star Trek: The Motion Picture Spock Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Old! This Mego Star Trek: The Motion Picture Spock Action Figure is something I tripped over at a record store for ten bucks last year - and it's pretty dang old. There are no painted eyes, just sculpted holes. It's not how things would evolve, but a fascinating look at an alternate way to make figures from 45 years ago. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: Pre Vizsla (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Pre Vizsla (The Vintage Collection). He is available as a 6-inch figure as well, and for all I know you may find either at a store near you - they're both good, but this one takes up . Read the whole review.
Via Eric Nilla on Instagram (by Culturefly): Culturefly's new Tiny Mights Batman keshi series. Last year, Walmart had Scooby Doo figures - which may be by the checkouts now - and these are coming next. They come packed in a Batmobile. Characters include Clayface, Batman, Joker, Deathstroke, Robin, The Penguin, The Riddler, Killer Croc, Catwoman, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy

Classic Review: Takara-Tomy Beast Saga Garrison G Action Figure
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The Takara-Tomy Beast Saga Garrison G Action Figure was a good figure - you didn't buy it and the line more or less went away in a year. But it's a cool figure with big armor and an impressive ape head sculpt, and it was relatively cheap. Read on!

Possibly still available at a store near you! The Hasbro Transformers Legacy Evolution Voyager Comic Universe Bludgeon Action Figure took a while to get to stores, but when you found it, it was pretty great. The figure is a retool of Tarn with a big sword and a new head, and it's great - lots of articulation. It stands well. It looks cool. Granted, there's no Pretender Shell, but why would you expect one at this point? It's as good as Bludgeons get. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: Boba Fett (Dune Sea, The Retro Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Boba Fett (Dune Sea, The Retro Collection). Some online shops (like Entertainment Earth) are shipping out this wave but I haven't seen any in stores yet. If you do see them, you should get them - Boba has a good head sculpt, excellent Jawa-esque robes, and two really nice accessories to boot. I went and got my The Vintage Collection Boba Fett's Spaceship (or whatever it's called this week) when I cracked him open and had myself a pretty good time in the cargo hold, but he's too big to fit in the pilot seat. Review: Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins Turtles of Grayskull Mouse-Jaw Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New! This Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins Turtles of Grayskull Mouse-Jaw Action Figure is a Target exclusive that either you won't see at all or your store has a peg full of them right now. Not only does it include a MOUSER sidekick figure, but there are build-a-figure parts to cobble together your very own Metal-Boto... eventually. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Whatever it is, Transformers has a good track record of these things so far - but looking at the secondary market prices on Deathsaurus, I assume toy flippers may not be showing up for these this time. And while flippers aren't great for the hobby, they do serve a purpose of increasing production runs for this sort of thing. While Unicron got an extension, Victory Saber and Deathsaurus campaigns did just fine.
NES 240p Test Suite + Gus's Game Collection on Kickstarter
Via Kickstarter: 240p Test Suite + Gus's Game Collection (NES Cart) *Make100*. The ROM mostly exists to check the quality of CRT television sets and/or game hardware, and has been available freely for years. Now you can get it on a cartridge with some bonus games for $60.
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R4-X2. You might not remember this one - it's from a Disney parks The Last Jedi two-pack and it's pretty awesome in person. It looks like it would fit in nicely with R2-X2, if you have the later green flavor of that one. Also it's long since sold out. Read the whole review.

Classic Review: Mattel Hot Wheels X-Raycers Carbonator
A classic! I've written over 5,000 action figure reviews since 2006, so I'm going to toot my own horn with classic Figure of the Day.
Posted ten years ago today! The Mattel Hot Wheels X-Raycers Carbonator is a functioning bottle opener. It really works - but the paint will scrape if you use it, so be careful. Numerous recolors of this car have hit the market and you may still find one at a toy or grocery store toy bin near you. Read on!

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Pyke Soldier (The Black Series). It's like the stock photo got turned into a toy, with an extra blaster and no special features. It's decent, and meets modern fan expectations for the scale. Read the whole review.
Via HasLab: Transformers: Legacy Robots in Disguise 2001 Omega Prime. You get three figures, and the 10,000 piece minimum run for this $249.99 set was 25% funded in the first two hours. After 10 hours, it's 46% funded. It's going to do fine. The giant Matrix Blade kicks in at 13,000 backers.
Stretch goals include a massive sword and Space Bridge-themed display stands. Funding ends March 14, so you have plenty of time to decide if this slightly larger version of the 2001 toys (that is cheaper than the last reissue) is for you. In terms of pricing, it offers much more bang for the buck than previous items at a price that's not terribly hard to swallow. Expect it to be released in Fall 2025.
