Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 359
|
He's the star! Today at Galactic Hunter we look at Luke Skywalker from the Toys "R" Us exclusive Landspeeder released a few years ago. He may look like a lot of other Luke figures, but he's juuuust a little different. How different? Read on and find out.

Wii Virtual Console This Week
|
Three more games this week. The biggest news, and the best entry, is Castlevania from the NES. Don't let anyone tell you it isn't awesome. From the Super NES, there's Legend of the Mystical Ninja, a game which we're told is much loved by both people who bought it. Finally, there's Shockman from the Turbografx-16. Don't worry, we've never heard of it either.

Botcon Transformers: Bugbite; Comic-Con Rodimus Alternator?
|
A new Botcon Exclusive Announcement: Bugbite! As expected, it's a silvery repaint of Bumblebee from Classics. Not expected: lots of purple striping. It looks great, and this appears to be part of an ever-greatening set. We are impressed. We also want a set.
Also new, ACToys has a few shots of a packaged Rodimus toy from Alternators. It's a repainted and retooled Mirage, and looks nothing like the Rodimus released in Japan as part of the Kissplay series. We dare say this one is better. From the packaging, we can tell that this item ships in an assortment by its lonesome, and we expect it to be an exclusive for somebody. Our money? Comic-Con in San Diego. There is no confirmation yet but we've got high hopes we'll be owning a new Ford GT come July.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 360
|
The Spirit of '83! Today at Galactic Hunter we look at Anakin Skywalker Skywalker from the Jedi Spirits 3-pack sold just after the time of the Special Editions, but before the DVD edits. Is it worth picking up this figure, or should you wait for the inevitable Hayden spirit figure that's sure to come some time down the road? Read on and find out.

Nintendo DS Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Screens
|
The cats over at The Magic Box pushed up about eight pictures of the Nintendo DS title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, which is in the lead for most unnecessarily long title of the year. It looks quite decent, so check it out.

More Transformers Micromasters Superion Shipping
|
Big Lots! stores are getting in more new shipments of the hard-to-find once-exclusive-but-not-so-much-now Superion Micromasters set. We found all but #3 at a local store and will keep searching until we find the set in one place, or at least find a #3 and go back to get the rest. At $4 a pop, they're not exactly cheap-- but it's cheaper than Kay-Bee would have charged and it's probably better than not getting them at all.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 361, 362
|
Today at Galactic Hunter we start with a look at the only Admiral Ozzel figure you can buy. Bits of him were used to make other figures, but this is the only Ozzel you can get-- so should you make it a point to get it? Read on!
And who could forget Darth Sidious from the Battle Arenas? For whatever reason, there are several figures of the figure from the Jedi Showdown scene and this, well, is one of them. The head is one of the better ones. So do you need it? Read on!
Oh, and we're doing a podcast later. You'll find it if you're on the Entertainment Earth feed (see the top of the front page), so be sure you're getting that.

Microman 2007

Apparently, they're still making Microman figures over at Takara. Microman Forever has shots of the Toys "R" Us (Japan) exclusive Wild Boar Microman, which is pretty cool. "Year of the boar," baby. Check it out.

Botcon Transformers: Dreadwind Revealed
|
...and that makes the set. A new Botcon Exclusive Announcement: Dreadwind! It's Jetfire, in purple, with a new head. Snazzy. A pity these toys weren't instead sold by the tens of thousands to stores where they could make Hasbro and numerous retailers lots of actual real money, but such is life. They're down to precious few sets left, so go to Botcon.com to order your set before they tell you to screw off when they run out.
Oh, and Classics are 30% off at some Target stores. So if you've been waiting, stop waiting, and go buy some. They're great.

Star Wars Q&A Updated at Galactic Hunter
|
Galactic Hunter has posted a Q&A column by yours truly. Read on!
Also, Figure of the Day has been updated! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of the 30th Anniversary Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
We also added archive pages so you can go through the entire column's run. We celebrated 1 year of consecutive columns over the weekend.
From left to right: Super Battle Droid, Captain Tarpals, McQuarrie Concept Boba Fett. Go to Galactic Hunter for the next update, with the 366th installment in our ongoing series! We just wrote a whole mess more of these so we're covered through close to the end of the month. (It's like having an extra non paying job. You should totally do a column like this for your hobby.)

Upright Citizens Brigade Season 2 DVD Date?
|
One of our all-time favorite comedy shows was Comedy Central's Upright Citizens Brigade, which we watched with our college roommates and friends and loved to pieces. TVShowsOnDVD.com has a blurb indicating the second box set of the show is due July 31-- only a few years after Volume 1 was released and like six years after the show was cancelled. Well, hey, something to watch for.
TV comedy fans should also take note of shows on TV now that are good, OK, or at least watchable like Fuse TV's Whitest Kids U Know (yes, even in spite of the rotten name) and MTV's (we're told) Human Giant. Future cult classics today!

Upcoming CDs We're Excited About: Summer 2007
|
As people who hate everything, we feel obligated to tell that some decent albums are on the way that you might like if you're a bit of a snob.
Shellac is releasing their first album since 2000 and it's called Excellent Italian Greyhound. Some of the tracks have been leaked via live shows, their BBC showings, and elsewhere-- but dammit, it's Shellac. The band has Steve "Angriest Man in Rock" Albini, an engineer who recorded many bands that don't suck and previously appeared in two other bands that don't suck. It's worth looking in to.
Patton Oswalt is also releasing another CD, no doubt to time in with his appearance as the voice of the main character in the new Pixar flick, Ratatouille. It's called Werewolves & Lollipops and you owe it to yourself to buy it and his other older albums.
Also, Les Savy Fav is putting out a new one but we don't know when. As does Phoenix' Andrew Jackson Jihad, which has something coming out on Asian Man Records but we dunno what the deal is there as their web site is about as informative as a pile of dirt. We can appreciate the punk aesthetic but don't make it hard for us to give you money, dammit.
We love music, and comedy. We just have a hard time finding stuff to get excited about.

Transformers Movie Figures: We Saw 'Em, Screw Street Dates
|
On the way to work this morning we stopped in Target and saw eight deluxe figures from the upcoming movie line. We decided to keep our money, but for $9.99 a whack, we could've selected from Jazz, Scorponok, Bumblebee, Barricade, Brawl, and Wreckage. Wreckage actually looked pretty good, and according to reports we're reading elsewhere, it seems retail America has finally realized embargo dates for TOYS that we've all seen by now is a pretty stupid idea. Kudos to you, street breakers. Kudos.

Wii Virtual Console This Week
|
From the NES: Tecmo's Mighty Bomb Jack, which is apparently here to give "classic" a new name, as seven copies were sold from 1986-1991. From the Super NES: Capcom's Final Fight. Be a mayor or some guy and beat the crap out of people. It's a classic, you know you want it. From the TurboGrafx-16: Ordyne. It's a shooter we've never heard of and are now painfully curious. We expect the pain to come in after we download it.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 367, 368
|
Today at Galactic Hunter we start with a look at the newest Star Wars-costumed Princess Leia Organa figure, which came out in 2005 and is still available. She doesn't have a lot of articulation, so would you believe she turned out pretty well? Read on!
And who could forget Poggle the Lesser from 2003? It came out as a repaint in 2006, but this is the first one that doesn't look as good. Sure, it's worth buying, why not? We mean, why have one when you can have two for twice the price? Read on!

Transformers Movie Figures: More Broken Street Dates
|
We went and saw more leaked figures at Target, notably Swindle and Bonecrusher. It looked like crap so we left it there. If you want a car that turns into a dopey robot with an Apple iSight for a head, by all means. $9.99 a whack. Keep checking your local Targets if you're in the market for these. We decided to leave them there, so odds are that means someone bought them and they're on eBay by now.

DS Final Fantasy IV Remake Coming, 16bit.com Staff Craps Pants

Arguably the greatest 16bit RPG of all time is being upgraded to the greatest 32bit RPG of all time. The Magic Box has a few crappy scans and some information, and we are most pleased. No release date is given but we can't wait to try it.

Wii Soul Calibur Coming, Sort Of
|
Apparently a new brawlers is coming to the Wii: Soul Calibur Legends. There are two pictures to be seen and not much else. We hear it's more of a brawler than a one-on-one fighter, so those waiting for a true sequel will have to keep waiting.

Today at Galactic Hunter we look at Princess Leia Organa from 1995, a figure that went from being highly sought-after and quite valuable to being a symbol of this line's non-value almost overnight. Obviously you shouldn't get one-- but don't you want to know why? Read on and find out.

Part of this year's summer movie tie-in, Pepsi Optimus Prime is the Japanese Pepsi Convoy in a new box with shorter smokestacks. And now, it can be yours-- if you win it, as you can't buy it. From the NES: Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden, a heck of a nice title from 1989 that basically introduced gamers everywhere to the notion of a cut scene to move along the story. From the NES: Namco's Pac-Man. Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 374, 375
|
Today at Galactic Hunter we start with a look at the newest comic-book inspired R2-D2 figure, using the R4-G9 mold and new fancy colors. Sure he's ugly, but isn't that what makes him cool? Read on!
And who could forget Princess Leia in her 1998 Expanded Universe garments? Available for a brief time, this figure caught a lot of attention-- and not the bad kind, either. Armed with a cloak, lightsaber, and blaster, is Han Solo's space-milf wife worth picking up? Read on!
Also, some interesting Master Replicas news. The prop maker has not only dropped the Star Wars license (effective the end of the year), but they also pulled out of Celebration IV, the convention later this month. Interesting, no?

Transformers Street Date "Lifted" (or ignored, pick one)
|
Hasbro lifted the street date for the "deluxe" price point of movie toys. Or, Target and other stores' computer systems can't tell the Sneak Preview figures from the regular Deluxe assortments as they all ship in the same assortment number and are therefore identical to their software, so they just gave up. Either way, if you want movie toys, it's totally worth your while to hit up Target during lunch or on your way home as we have personally seen a few dozen figures (well, the same ones over and over) like Bumblebee and Swindle. Why wait if you're interested?
The rest of the stuff-- Robot Heroes, Real Gear, Unleashed, and so forth-- is still being held for June 2. We, of course, will continue to search for broken street dates and tell you about them.

Halo 3 Edition Zune; Prince of Persia Classic Screenshots
|
Joystiq has pictures of and others are taking pre-orders on a new Zune with Halo packaging and graphics. We're Apple people, but we can still appreciate branding a consumer device with another license-- heck, that's why we bought a couple of fancy-pants GameBoy Advance consoles we didn't need. If you ask us, the box is more interesting to look at than the device, but maybe that's the point. At least it isn't brown.
Also, The Magic Box released some images of the new Xbox 360 port of the original Prince of Persia. It isn't a dark, indoor, creepy little castle but is instead an open, 2.5D remake in places. On one hand, we appreciate this. On the other hand, we're quite fond of the look of the original. It still looks like lots of fun.

ZOMG MOAR PSP CASTLEVANIA!!!!1

Oh dude, how we lust for Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. PSP Fanboy has a number of new screenshots of the game, and it is pretty. Do check it out if you care for such things.
The game, for those not paying attention, is a port of the legendary Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, a PC Engine CD game never released in the USA. It has the original game, an upgraded version, and a port of Symphony of the Night and is due from the PSP this September, when it will arrive on the wings of angels on a gilded chariot following a parade of rose petals or something to that effect. We have a PSP around and we're keeping it warm for this one.

We were turned on to this translated page from ACToys.net which features four non-transforming "Robot Replicas" action figures. G.I. Joe Script Review?
|
Buzz around the web has it that the movie will suck. Latino Review has a look at the property early on, complete with spoilers, information on how little of Cobra we'll see, and the inclusion of Alex "Action" Mann. It certainly doesn't sound great, but what sounds good to us is a ridiculous script with stupid McGuffins, a Yosimite Sam-esque Cobra Commander, and lots of gratuitous shots of the Baroness in some sort of latex get-up portrayed by a fetish model. But enough of what we want.

Transformers: Target Exclusive Plans

While we don't assume this is everything, Target is gonna have at least 4 exclusive toys on June 2. The big one is Robo Vision Optimus Prime, a repaint and a promotional tie-in to Internet contest. Wii Virtual Console This Week
|
From the Genesis: Kid Chameleon, a game we best remember as being played at Target demo stations while waiting for our parents to hurry the hell up and buy whatever it was they were buying (it was entertaining). From the Super NES: Enix' ActRaiser. It's one of our favorite games of the era, even if it is an offbeat mix of simulation and action genres. From the TurboGrafx-16: J.J. & Jeff. We didn't play that one.

Transformers: Leaks-A-Plenty
|
Over the long weekend, we spotted countless Target stores with movie merchandise for sale, including Robot Heroes Wave 2 (Soundwave, etc.), Robo Vision Optimus Prime, Leader Class Optimus Prime, and numerous other toys. The official street date is June 2 but obviously, street dates are a thing to be ignored. Check your local stores for leaks.
While stores have done reasonably well keeping stuff under wraps for Star Wars in 1999, 2002, and 2005 (more or less), it seems that in 2007 most stores are just letting the chips fall where they may. And we say good-- there's nothing less sensible than a street date when you could put an item on the floor and make money off of it.

Ad/News: New EXCLUSIVE HOLY CRAP Star Wars at Entertainment Earth
|
Over at Entertainment Earth, the next Hasbro Star Wars Entertainment Earth Exclusive is going up for sale today. The final name is a mystery. The final contents are a mystery. But it's first-come, first-served in terms of orders, there's no penalty for canceling a pre-order, and odds are you'll want to get in line for this set.
The set has a cohesive theme and features at least one Mandalorian Commando named Llats Ward. The backstory, as given to us, is that he was hired by Jango Fett to train clones on Kamino. Could this be a clue? Visit this page to place your order/look for clues/see more details now!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 388, 389
|
Today at Galactic Hunter we start with a look at the battle-damagable Anakin Skywalker figure, which originally had a magnet that didn't work and later saw a reissue with a peg that more or less did. You can cut off his arm, and he can fight. Does that sound cool, or should it? Read on!
And who could forget R2-D2 with limited articulation, odd deco, and iffy features? He has arm rockets and just doesn't look right-- so it's a good thing he's about to be rereleased, right? Read on!

Godzilla Unleashed: New Wii Pictures
|
Developed as a property from the East as a game by the West, Godzilla: Unleashed is coming soon to the Wii by way of whatever people Atari owns these days. The Magic Box has three pages of screen shots, and they look pretty gosh darn good if we do say so ourselves. Take a look!

Transformers: Kmart Exclusive
|
Kmart gets a lot of questionable exclusives, like this somewhat dull-but-better-than-nothing Unleashed Bumblebee with Exclusive Cover Comic set. Before, Hasbro gave Kmart a set of two repaints where they were almost indistinguishable from other, non-exclusive repaints of the same toys and in 2005, for Star Wars, they had a carry case (that came out before) with two figures (which were out for months). Thrilling. But if the price is right, Unleashed Bumblebee with comic is better than Bumblebee with nothing at all.
