Dino-Riders Harness the Power of Army Men
|
This is technically an ad: Dino-Riders Rulon Warriors Battle Pack - Entertainment Earth Exclusive. It has Rulons and Valorians in classic Army Man poses, plus dinosaurs, plus pilots.
As of now this is the only known Dino-Riders item coming and the first one since the Tyco line ended about 30 years ago. You get 6 dinosaurs and tons of figures - and you probably should get it. Of note, the non-rider figures are posed like classic, vintage army man toys.

Small GameGear Is Small
|
Via Famitsu and SEGAbits: Famitsu magazine took the photo we all wanted to see. The picture shows the two are pretty much the exact same size - not exactly a great thing to actually play on, so much as be amused by its novelty.
A larger replica would have been pretty cool, though!

Nintendo Switch This Week
|
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Ys Origin, Arcade Archives BURNINÕ RUBBER, SEGA AGES Herzog Zwei, Retro Classix Collection #1: Data East, and over a dozen more.
Free: Super Mario Bros. 35, which is a "limited time" game. It's kind of interesting and can be kind of dull - the goal is mostly to survive. If you play slowly and carefully, stomping (not fireballing) enemies to get extra time, it's not terribly difficult to survive.
At retail: Super Mario 3D All-Stars and WWE 2K Battlegrounds - but will you be able to find either?

Toy Fair New York Moved from February to May 2021
|
Via Freezepop on Kickstarter: President's Letter: Toy Association Aims to Bring Industry Back Together for Toy Fair NY in May 2021. The long and short of it is they expect to do Toy Fair from May 1 to May 4. I am not optimistic - just from a "maybe we'll all have a vaccine in April" perspective, but that seems unlikely.
I'd love to be in New York in May. Or anywhere that is not 20 minutes from my home. Today alone, we saw The Batman delayed another year, Dune pushed back to 2021 (or longer), Netflix' GLOW cancelled, Regal Cinemas closed indefinitely, and a bunch of other DC films pushed back. Given how many toys there are from the movies that didn't come out in 2020 that still need to be released - Eternals, G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Godzilla vs. Kong, Top Gun: Maverick, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and a large slate of early 2021 films where many retails have seen the toys but don't know if they're going to ship - I wouldn't bank on there being a need for a big trade show until some more movies, toys, and TV shows get off the backburner.
Some Wonder Woman 1984 and Black Widow items are out, but with no movie there's still a fair amount of business to be done. Maybe. Œ

Jurassic World: Dominion (and maybe toys) Delayed to 2022
|
Via The Hollywood Reporter: 'Jurassic World: Dominion' Delays Summer 2021 Release to 2022. This follows delays of The Batman and The Flash into 2022, and if I were a betting person I'd just push absolutely everything without the guts to launch a good VOD campaign while you're at it.
I assume the toys are being pushed as well.

Transformers - Abominus Selects Reissue Incoming
|
Via TF_pr and also just different enough to make you mad: Transformers Selects Abominus. The limbs are barely different, while the torso Abominus had some compelling changes - plus the big blaster from the Seacons Snaptrap/Turtler. Is it worth 22,000 yen (US $210) when compared to four $16.99 limbs and a $24.99 torso? Not to me. But if you missed it? Well, that's up to you. It might still be cheaper to get the Power of the Primes version, despite the non-matching fists.
Hasbro Pulse will likely have it for under $200 in the very near future, for those who want the very best. I would also expect delays - Super Megatron got pushed from October to December, quietly.

Earthrise Bluestreak Found at Walgreens
|
Via many but let's go with TF@2005: Transformers Earthrise Bluestreak Out At US Retail Ð Walgreens Exclusive. As your smarter, more handsome friends told you, there were no more Earthrise waves yet to be announced.
For whatever reason, Hasbro didn't announce this one. Also unannounced and probably due to show up soon is Target's alleged exclusive Runabout. Hasbro's usual NYCC-adjacent panels and streaming are where we usually hear about these things, but this year they opted to not announce their remaining exclusive products. Amazon also has more on the docket. A recently leaked Earth mode Barricade's home has also not been officially announced.

Analogue to Announce Something October 16
|
Via Analogue on Twitter: Announcement2 Oct. 16, 2020 8am PST. (It's daylight time, but whatever, nobody seems to understand that.)
Speculation is that based on the font of the teaser, it's probably a PC Engine Duo or SuperGrafx-related thing. Given that it's also on the 16th, I assume that it's no coincidence it might be related to the TurboGrafx-16, which will probably make the secondary market for games go from "unpleasantly expensive" to "obscene." I would also settle for another pre-order for the Analogue Pocket.
While Analogue's marketing is certainly showy as of late (I had no problems getting the Super NT or Mega Sg about a year and change ago), they do interesting stuff and this site is named 16bit.com, so hopefully we'll have more to share soon.

Axiom Verge 2 Delayed to (at least) 2021
|
Via Thomas Happ: The Legacy of 2020 Continues with this delay of Axiom Verge 2. The "Metroidvania" comes out of the one-man-band that is Thomas Happ, who delivered a pretty spectacular late 1980s/early 1990s pastiche that was an absolute blast a few years ago. His next game is delayed a bit - but the previous one was a lot of fun, so I'm in no rush - it's nice to have something to look forward to that won't necessarily rely on a miracle in order to come to pass.
The first game was released for many platforms, including the Wii U as one of its last releases. The sequel's full release schedule is unknown.

Hasbro, Arcade1up Team Up for Tablet with Feet

PC Engine/TurboGrafx/Duo/etc. from Analogue
|
Via Analogue: Introducing Duo. The Higher Energy Analogue System. Limited quantities" of this CD - and HuCard-based system are due in 2021 for $199. It sounds like a screaming deal, as it has built-in wireless connectivity unlike previous systems.
The system was famous for its exceptional Japanese game library, and for being somewhat esoteric (and weirdly underpowered in spots) in the USA. For example, it had one controller port and only RF-out in its default US release in 1989 - unless you bought a TurboBooster for RCA jacks, or a TurboTap for 2 or more players. This new one seems to have a lot more options, and costs less than a new TurboDuo did in the 1990s.
Also announced was an adapter for the Analogue Pocket, so you can put your TurboGrafx games in it - but pre-orders on all machines that aren't the Analogue Mega Sg are in short supply now, so who knows when or if you might get one - or a shot at a pre-order.

Many New Transformers Announced
|
Via Hasbro (and Entertainment Earth, Amazon, and Walmart): Transformers Studio Series 86 Pre-orders. Grimlock, Scourge, Hot Rod, Jazz, Blurr, and Kup are now up for grabs for an early 2021 release. These will appear in Studio Series assortments (and packaging), and are not a new product number - it's sort of like the "gold box" figures from 10 years ago that mixed movie and classic together.
Click here for Amazon's Studio Series 86 listings and click here for Entertainment Earth's. Some of these links may be affiliate links and we may receive a few pennies in commission if you click and buy something.
Amazon got a Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Galactic Odyssey Collection Micron Micromasters 6-Pack, 1.5-inch Amazon Exclusive - all repaints, two of which are inspired by Kenner's M.A.S.K. line, and two of which are capable of combining into a blaster. It's not a bad batch.
Walmart got some new Headmasters in G1 packaging - they're reissues of 2016's Titans Return Chromedome, Hardhead, Mindwipe, and Brainstorm. However, pre-order listings are not up despite being promised on Friday. It's also worth noting Walmart canceled a lot of - but not all of - pre-orders from the July round of items that hasn't shipped yet. We've heard reports of Optimus Prime and Elita-1 getting canceled along with Impactor, Wheeljack, and Red Alert - and this is not old news, but it did happen a couple of months ago, too.

Joel Hodgson, J. Elvis Weinstein, and Bill Corbett donated their time and chops to this campaign and the fundraiser resulted in two new MST3K shorts.

Transformers Quintesson Pit of Judgement Back Up for Pre-Orderfont>
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: Transformers Generations War for Cybertron Trilogy Quintesson Pit of Judgement Action Figure.
I got this set coming up for review here, and I'd recommend it. The Quintesson Judge is slightly better than the mass release, but the colors don't match Hasbro's official pictures precisely. The Sharkticon is fine, the Bailiff is a keeper, and the Prosecutor and Kranix are no slouch either - but they're merely collectible figures with almost no articulation between them.
