Minibits Samiss Power Suit & Leotard
|
Via our pal Phil: Minibits Samiss Power Suit & Leotard. It's not Metroid, right? The set is pricey at $44.00 for the pair of 2 1/2-inch flesh keshi figures, and they look great. If they were cheaper, I'd be buying.

Transformers - Black Leader Prime Updates
|
Via Amazon, this Prime Day item: Transformers Generations Power of the Primes Evolution Nemesis Prime. The page has gone up and down, and while I got it in my cart at one point I was not able to check out. It's expected to be up for sale to Amazon Prime customers during Prime Day. How appropriate.
Later that week you can get SDCC Throne of the Primes Optimal Optimus. It's another black repaint with a bat filled with missing Prime Masters, plus a crown "head" for Optimal Optimus. The small inner robot is unchanged, but you get a huge chair throne. Obviously, I want one.

Programming Note
|
Hi all! After doing the toy journalism thing almost daily since 1995, we're shuffling the schedule to give me a bit of a break. Star Wars Q&A will continue to go on Galactic Hunter every Monday (Sunday overnight.) Star Wars Figure of the Day will be up on Galactic Hunter every Tuesday and Thursday - links will appear here on 16bit.com on Wednesday and Friday. 16bit.com Figure of the Day will post a new feature here every Tuesday and Thursday.
This schedule could change, but right now I needed less to do - to keep up I had to write 1-2 reviews per day every day over the past 12 years, sometimes more when I had business travel. I'm going to try this and see if it's less manic - and we're going to try to focus on more esoteric stuff as the buffer thins out a bit. Also, you're gong to see a figure debut in Thursday's review. It's a winner.

Amazon Hasbro Shop has Transformers and Pony Toys, Shirts
|
Amazon's Hasbro Comic-Con Shop has shirts and toys from My Little Pony and Transformers. As far as I know this has nothing to do with what's sold at the actual convention, but is timed to go with the convention.
Blast Off with Megatronus was briefly available for pre-order or back-order, but Repugnus and Punch/Counterpunch remain available. My Little Pony Twilight Spakrle as Star Swirl the Bearded - I assume this means something - is still available, as are 21 t-shirts from both brands. The Transformers ones seem to tie in to the toys and their character art, plus Bumblebee in general. The Ponies have a strong 1980s influence.

SDCC Transformers Tweets
|
I'm not going to lie to you - I've been on the road for a while, and now that I'm home I'm kind of out of steam. Here are some tweets from SDCC for Transformers stuff I saw and enjoyed - you no doubt saw coverage elsewhere, but here's some of what I liked. Target's exclusives for the Bumblebee movie have exquisite packaging and Titans Return stuff I'm very happy to have!
The new Generations brand starts around December and is War for Cybertron: Siege. Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus join Ironhide, Chromia, Hound, Sideswipe, and Cog - with Weaponizers, Battlemasters, Micromasters, and other goodies. The idea is that it's a new story about the last day on Cybertron, and the Decepticons will be shown at a later date.

Mattel to Cut 2,200 Jobs (Hasbro Doing Fine)
|
Via Yahoo: Barbie maker Mattel to cut more than 2,200 jobs. The toymaker hasn't had the best couple of years, although there are some excellent items on the horizon and a few great things hitting right now. From the article: "A Mattel spokesman said the job cuts will affect mainly its office workers worldwide and are part of the company's efforts to slash at least $650 million in costs. Mattel, which is based in El Segundo, California, has about 28,000 employees."
On the other coast, Hasbro Earnings: Double-Digit Gains Are ChildÕs Play. The company picked up the entire Power Rangers brand and seems to be doing really well considering no Transformers movie, soft Star Wars performance, and a lot of changing plans in light of the loss of Toys R Us.
This could be when Hasbro decides they want Fisher-Price, Barbie, Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket, Monster High, and so forth.
