Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Vintage Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at a Darth Vader (Dagobah) with arguably one of the best action features ever - a removable head with Luke's face inside. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Man or Astro-Man? 7-Inch Records Arriving
|
While it doesn't quite have a proper name, it's arriving in homes now! Chunklet's new Man or Astro-Man? record is shipping now, but iTunes has it for $2.97 already and at press time the link was not functioning, despite a September 1 release date. (Warning/guarantee: the record does NOT come with an MP3 voucher.)
For fans: it's good. I expect I will have arguments over the band with some friends soon. It sounds like an evolution of the Spectrum of Infinite Scale stuff despite having the original line-up, complete with the return of Star Crunch and new addition Avona Nova. Surf music won't bring home the bacon, indeed, but the track "Dr. Space" has an accordion on it and is a delightful track that sounds unlike anything on any of their previous releases. "Anti-Matter Man" sounds like a Technetium/Eeviac-era song with a long lead up and some great distorted vocals. And the whole thing is engineered by Steve Albini, so yeah, go get it you putz. You're going to like it.

Toys R Us Gets FAO Playmobil, Big Reset
|
A big reset is on! Toys R Us has 150th Anniversary FAO Victorian Playmobil Sets including a single-boxed soldier (pictured, $6.99) and a giant Victorian boxed set with fences, cars, and people galore for $129.99.
A bigger surprise: tons of new Western sets are in stock too, including more new horse carts, a new gold mine (does not seem as cool as the old one), robbers, and other themes as well. Series 2 blind-bagged mini-figures are finally showing up as well in addition to horses, farms, a fairly cheap big dragon castle, and other things I'm not buying.
No Stone Age sets were available as far as I can tell. Still. What the heck, man.

OMFG Series 3 Voting Begins Now
|
Why wait? October Toys has opened voting on OMFG Series 3 this past weekend with 144 choices, including a ton of really, really good ones with sculpts ready for your eyeballs including the Coughin' Coffin, designed by friend-of-the-site Nik.
Voting ends September 29 and you can vote for up to 5 choices, which is a lot better than the preposterous soul-searching nightmare that was going through the 461 figures in series 2.

Bah'Glenn Creations Debuts Ston'emm
|
Get stone-d! Bah'glenn Creations Next Glyos-Compatible Figure: The Ston'emm has been revealed, and a small run will kick off in October at New York Comic Con.
The Bah'glenn also has a swell figure up for voting in OMFG series 3. Click here and look at #51 to see it, and vote on its creation in this thread. Remember, OMFG figures rely on fan votes, and the top 5 will get made-- so vote!
A new Glyos drop took place last night at Onell Design as well, and I assume you knew and bought. If not, Visit the Onell Design Store to see what's left! You can also see the menu of all items at The Glyos News Dump as several of the new releases sold out in under an hour. It's a bizarre scenario but hopefully one that's working out well for Onell Design. I hope they don't shy away from straight reissues, as there are some really great figures which could probably do well with a second (or third, or fourth) run down the road!

Review: Jeff Ross Roasts America
|
Worth seeing! One of the greatest things to come out of Comedy Central's annual roast product is a slew of comics getting the kind of exposure you may have only received during The Tonight Show back when being on it was considered a much bigger cultural touchstone. One such recipient of the warm embrace of the roasts is Jeff Ross, a comic you'll undoubtedly recognize from his many talk show appearances and as the de facto "Roastmaster General" of the 21st century, or perhaps that one time on Batman. In Jeff Ross Roasts America, you get a pretty solid introduction to what he does with a decent chunk of bonus features.

New Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released
|
Xbox fans, it's time to download Kung Fu Strike, a $10/800-point game which involves oh so much fighting. Microsoft says:
"In Kung Fu Strike: The Warrior's Rise, ancient China is being ripped apart by three warring forces, the Tian Empire, the invading forces of Shaa seeking to overthrow the Empire's King, and a rebel uprising with their own agenda. Playing as martial arts master General Loh, you're thrown into the middle of this bitter war armed only with your deadliest weapon: your fists. Fight your way through waves of enemies and towering bosses with lethal attacks, learn new skills to take down even the toughest opponent and see if you have what it takes to complete the frantic challenge modes. If going it alone is too much, then team up with a friend in co-op mode or show off your killer moves in the Versus Mode."
Also new: Dogfight 1942, which by the name you can guess is a WWII flight game. It's $15/1,200 points.

PS3: PSN Updates
|
New to download this week: Max Payne 3, and EA SPORTS FIFA Street. These are $$59.99. But Max Payne is on sale for $44.99, if you care for such things.
New PSN games include Double Dragon Neon, Anomaly Warzone Earth, and Red Johnson's Chronicles One Against All, each is $9.99. And yes, it's "Neon" and not "Neo." Let's examine a short sample from the official PSN description: "Billy and Jimmy Lee are back to save their shared love interest, Marian, this time from the evil Skullmageddon." So I guess this is some sort of twincest mixed with the funniest villain name since Dark Phallus. I approve. XBLA incoming.

Also, a whole mess of PSOne games were added to the Vita. In all honesty, in more than a dozen titles, I don't think any warrant excitement here, so let's move on.

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week
|
While no new games were posted, the upcoming Wii U game console is due November 18, 2012 for $300-$350, depending on which version you buy. The cheaper white one has less memory and no games. The more expensive black one has more memory and a game. Either way, you'll probably play it, love it, and never touch it again by mid-2013.
Software is all over the map, with some exclusive properties of interest including, surprisingly, Bayonetta 2 and less surprisingly, Dragon Quest X. The hardware itself is pretty interesting if you're a controller fiend, as in addition to traditional Wii remotes and an Xbox 360-esque controller, there's the one with a screen (pictured) as well.

Beast Saga Golem Thing Coming with Colosseum
|
My crappy linguistics fail me! The Battle Beasts News Blog has found that the Beast Saga Arena BS-14 Includes This Robot Thing which looks sort of like a Golem out of the original Dragon Warrior game if you're old enough to remember that. Considering it's an expensive set, the inclusion of a unique figure certainly makes it less skippable.

Rise of the Beasts Gets an Update
|
Oh hooray! Rise of the Beasts: An Update! over at the Battle Beasts News blog has some dirt on this oft-delayed line. A newly-tweaked 80mm lion is being sent to China for tooling, meaning a slightly larger beast figure is on the way. Lovely! Other smaller figures are still in the works but there's no real timeframe just yet.

Aquaman and Robo Shark Coming to Imaginext
|
Coming soon! Or I haven't seen it out yet. Aquaman is coming to DC Super Friends Imaginext apparently right now. I've seen an all-new Mr. Feeze hideout, plus two figure 5-packs, but this? This is new. He comes with a swell robot shark, which, let's face it, that's a selling point.

PSP: PSN Updates This Week
|
New to the PSP Vita front this week: New PSP Minis include: Feisty Feet for $2.99. I have a suspicion many people will find the title disappointingly misleading.
Also, a whole mess of PSOne games were added to the Vita. And some good ones, too, including Metal Slug X, The King of Fighters '99, and many more.

MOTUC-Compatible Manta Raider Update
|
It's not a Mattel product, but it's close enough to warrant your interest. Joe Amaro posted a Manta Raider Update showing off his collaboration with Rudy Obrero and its new packaging artwork. It's pretty spiffy and looks like it has one of those clamp-on bubbles so you can easily remove it from the packaging.
The vehicle will debut on sale at Power-Con (along with the Weaponeers of Monkaa and tons of other goodies) for a mere $50.00, which ain't bad. Be sure to check it out on Joe Amaro's blog.

New Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released
|
Xbox fans, it's time to download Jet Set Radio, a $10/800-point port of the Dreamcast game. It's a modern classic, of sorts. I remember using the Dreamcast modem to customize my tags so I could spray a Devo logo and DaVinci's The Last Supper all over Tokyo. Ah, good times. Microsoft says:
"Tag, grind, and trick to the beat in SEGAšs hit game Jet Set Radio! Fight for control of Tokyo-to, mark your turf with graffiti, tag walls, billboards, and even rival gang members! Perform tricks and flips on magnetically driven in-line skates, but watch out for the local police force! Now on Xbox Live Arcade, Jet Set Radio is part of Segašs Heritage Collection series and now features lush HD visuals, developer interviews, and amazing fan-created graffiti.
"
Also new: Red Johnson's Chronicles, which lets you hack and slash and dungeon crawl to your heart's content. It's $15/1200 points and is not Jet Set Radio.

Masters of the Universe PowerCon Reveals
|
No way! It turns out "yes way" is the correct response to Mattel's announcement of a Castle Grayskull Playset over the weekend. Preorders start in October for deliver in late 2013, and the price is estimated at $200. The final design will not be revealed in time for preorders, size/dimensions are unknown, and the minimum quantity of orders will have to be close to the minimum number of subscriptions to make the line happen each year. So it might not happen without extensive fan support.
In the realm of completely good news, Mattel announced three more figures. Octavia, Snake Face, and Karatti were sent to subscribers via email right when the panel started, which was a heck of a cool thing for Mattel to do. Much, much later in the show Clamp Champ's clamp was teased in the display case.
The convention exclusive was a set of Keldor's swords, glued together. Which ain't a bad freebie.

Weaponeers of Monkaa Revealed
|
Revealed! Weaponeers of Monkaa Debut at PowerCon and go on sale October 1. Pictured is a Magma Gohlem, one of six figures revealed so far. Interestingly, the heads and hands are swapped to make different characters. A fist has a Gohlem head, while a spiked fist is actually also Brutok's head. It's nothing if not fiendishly clever. With 6 weapon packs, 6 figures, and 1 head set, the entire line will set you back about $107. Read more at the Glyos News Dump.

Mine were a little crunched, but I found what's probably the last wave of 2012. While Diamond's and Onell Design's take on the format rang true as an update, the Takara-Tomy Beast Saga Raioga Action Figure is nifty but feels like a lost artifact from 1996. New Games for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Released
|
Xbox fans, it's time to download Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, a $15/1,200-point port of the arcade games. Microsoft says:
"The heroes of Marvel are back on the fighting ground, ready to do battle with Capcom's greatest legends, and with each other. In Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, you get two classic 90s Marvel arcade games for the price of one! Both Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom play like their original arcade versions - with fast-paced, over-the-top fighting action - but now feature upgraded HD visuals and customizable appearances, online play, replay-saving and spectator mode, and a dynamic challenge system that earns points for unlockable goodies. Fight like a hero, play like a legend!"
Also new: HELL YEAH! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. It's $15/1200 points and seems to involve a dead rabbit and a jetpack in a 2D game which, from the stills, is a spiritual sibling of Earthworm Jim.
