Star Wars Review: Wampa (40th Anniversary, The Black Series 6-Inch)
|
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Wampa (40th Anniversary, The Black Series 6-Inch). He's less bloody and arguably much improved. Read the whole review.

New Star Warsy Glyos This Weekend
|
Via the Glyos News Dump: Onell Design Wave 89 Sunday looks like it might be inspired by Star Wars and more specifically, The Mandalorian. And Kenner, in my dreams.
The extra $30 gets you a CD soundtrack, poster, pin set, coin, and an acrylic standee. All good swag if you love the game. But wait, there's more!

Transformers Kingdom Wave 2 Reveals Incoming
|
Via TransformersOfficial on Instagram: Just revealed on IGN, 3 new Kingdom figures to add to your collection! Including 2 classic Beast Wars characters featuring INCREDIBLE beast detail and texture. Dinobot, Airrazor, and Ultra Magnus were shown.
Dinobot looks like a gorgeous recreation of the TV show robot mode with a decent-if-lumpy raptor mode. Airrazor has some sort of gerhawk mode shown and a stellar robot form, plus a decent bird mode. Ultra Magnus is a more vibrant retool of the Siege toy, with new shoulder guns, a new torso, new head, new stacks, and a face lift of the truck mode. It does not use any Earthrise Optimus parts.
In addition, leaks of Inferno and others are making the rounds.

Xbox Series S/X - Dev Mode Allows Emulators
|
Via Retro RGB: Xbox Series S / X Emulation Capabilities highlights that the Xboxes that just came out can run GameCube games and tons of classic system titles under a Developer Mode you can unlock for $20.
Hacking the Xbox to run other games has been around since the original systems in 2001 - it's a tradition! - but this seems to be relatively easy to do with minimal expertise, assuming you can actually find the new Xboxes in a store near you.

Review: Super7 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates Foot Soldier Action Figure
|
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
It's sold out! The Super7 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates Foot Soldier Action Figure gives the figure from the 1980s extra gear and articulation, but manages to keep the spirit of the thing that was once only four bucks. So read on, and come back tomorrow for more!

I Missed It: Super JetPak DX GameBoy Color
|
Via Pocket Pixel Design: Super JetPak DX is starting to ship, and I completely missed that it was coming out. It looks a bit like similarly named games that were popular in the UK in the 20th century, and as of now the ROM, cartridge, or complete in box editions are not available for purchase.
I stumbled on a retweet from Asobi.tech yesterday, so it might be worth a look in case the game is opened for additional sales.

The New DuckTales Is Ending
|
Via Gizmodo: DuckTales' Current Third Season Is Officially Its Last. Considering the show has been stretching out and incorporating numerous nods (and seemingly backdoor pilots) to its The Disney Afternoon neighbors like Darkwing Duck and TaleSpin, I figured it was going to go on for a few years and launch a few side stories. Not so!
While clearly a colorful show for kids, it's surprisingly entertaining with a lot of fun adventure elements mixed in with classic kidvid stories and a murderer's row of voice talent. It also is peppered with nods to the NES game, like pogo-jumping on a recent episode or the Moon theme popping up as a lullabye.

Transformers Kingdom Wave 2 Reveals More
|
Via Hasbro but let's link to TFWiki: War for Cybertron: Kingdom Wave 2. The rest are now revealed - that's Core Class Starscream & Megatron. Deluxe class Ractonite, Huffer Airrazor, and a reissue of Arcee. Voyager Inferno and Dinobot. And Leader Ultra Magnus.
Pre-orders are nearby... real nearby.

New Glyos Drop From Last Night
|
Via the Glyos News Dump: Glyos Onell Design December 6 2020 Drop Menu.
The final drop of the year is inspired by The Mandalorian, with a few of the fancier items already sold. Gems like the Metrallore Commando, the Armorvor Vortrooper, and Delphi Monbarann are still in stock at press time - grab some if you are so inclined.

New Cheap Figures at Dollar Tree - Final Faction
|
Via Dollar Tree: Final Faction Action Figures & Accessories
. They're showing up in stores (so says toy Twitter) and you can see figures are sold separately from accessories - that's one way to keep costs down, and to give customizers and weapon fans a shot at cheap blasters.
So far the line has a handful of figures and accessory packs, and they're cheap - but look neat. We'll review some here if/when I get over to Dollar Tree, but if nothing else it's worth a look just to see that someone out there is trying to make action figures affordable for kids. If Burger King could sell 3 3/4-inch scale Universal Monsters in the 1990s with a burger, fries, and a drunk for three bucks, $1 space military and aliens shouldn't be too much of a stretch. If Lanard's toys are to fancy for you, this might be worth a peek.

Via Mister Rivers' Neighborhood: Weezer Demos are over 1,000 demos, snippets, and recordings.

German Playmobil 2021 Catalog Revealed
|
Via Playmobil: 2021 Katalog is up now, confirming many recent leaks and rumors. And prices are up a bit - these things are getting expensive.
Pages 24-25 have new sets from Volkswagen and Back to the Future. Scooby-Doo starts on page 28, and is packed with variations on Scooby. Not-quite-Dino-Riders is on page 36.
Presumably the licensed sets come out in the USA around the same time as Germany, but non-licensed sets are a year later (as the USA is an "export market.") Things can change - and we don't have a 2021 price list or US catalog yet - but you can get a peek in the future right now if you like.

Via Pocket Pixel Design: PREORDER Super JetPak DX 2nd RUN. It ain't cheap - the boxed cartridge is about $60 delivered to a US address, and you have until the end of January to order it.
There haven't been any reviews yet, but your ears can hear the weird UK-specific bubblegum audio and Twitter impressions have been positive so far.

New Alien Queen - Now With Sound, Red
|
Via Walmart (thank you for the link Seth): Lanard Light & Sound Alien Queen is in stock and available to ship. It has no indication of being in stores yet - the purple one is! - so if you want this flavor, you will need to order it. I don't know what the sound is.
This may show up in January or February as part of the Walmart toy aisle reset, which is expected to include 7-inch Alien warriors as well as similarly sized Predator figures. The preds also have a 12-inch figure.

Nintendo Switch This Week
|
This week's batch of titles on the eShop: Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend, Super Meat Boy Forever, Secrets of Magic 2: Witches & Wizards, Arcade Archives Markham, and over a dozen more.
At retail: Override 2: Super Mech League!
I picked up Space Invaders Forever and it looks like Space Invaders vs. Arkanoid is a very awkward port of a phone game - it loads when docked, but it is not presently playable docked. You need to use the touch screen. This is not indicated on the packaging anywhere.

Incoming: Combiner Wars Devastator Reissue
|
Via Amazon (ad link) and also Hasbro Pulse (which does not kick me a nickel if you place orders, so here's an Amazon link): Transformers Generations Combiner Wars Devastator Figure Set. This is a rerelease - I'm told with absolutely zero changes, other than an appropriate date stamp on the box (not to be confused with copyright date.) It's a pretty decent toy, mine's been standing on a shelf behind me for a few years with no problems at all. $150 isn't cheap, but consider what you are getting is effectively six Voyager-size toys, from when they were larger, and a trading card. At about $25 a whack, it's not a bad buy.
I have no idea how many are being made and if additional reruns will happen, so if you want one, this is a good time to grab it. Unless you think they'll do another new one later, which is a thing I would probably bet on down the road. I have no doubt they could make a more sturdy and more fun toy, but I don't imagine it would be this cheap or this large given toy inflation in recent years.

Unicron Update - Still No ETA
|
Via Hasbro Pulse: HasLab War for Cybertron Unicron: Update #4. This is kind of fascinating - they talk about drop tests, shipping tests, and how they're working to make sure the item gets to you unbroken.
The expensive toy - which most fans paid for late in 2019 - is still set to ship "Early 2021," which is obviously not a specific timeframe.

NES Chumlee's Adventure on Kickstarter
|
Via Kickstarter: Chumlee's Adventure: The Quest for Pinky - For your NES! There are multiple color options at multiple price points - the cheapest cartridge is a boxed blue number for $60 and goes as high as $250 for an autographed cartridge in yellow.
This is based on a fellow from a show called Pawn Stars, and not Tennessee Tuxedo's walrus sidekick. There are videos out there and it's basically Irem's Kung Fu - which is generally considered to be a good game, so this is probably going to be a fun one.

Beast Wars Concept Art from McDonald's
|
Via RoboticPlanetToys and TheAllSpark: Beast Wars! 1995 McDonald's Toy Document Gives Us a Previously Unseen Look at Early Franchise Development and Several Unused Toy Concepts!. It looks at the very good first batch of Beast Wars Happy Meal toys, as well as some unrealized concepts that would have been pretty great.
There's a Megatron Sea Turtle, Iganus, Dragonfly, and tons of others that might make you go "Now why didn't we ever get that?" The actual toys we did get were pretty good - Panther, Beetle, Manta Ray, and Rhino. It is unfortunate that Megatron was unable to join the Turtle Club, but at least someone out there had a plan for it before Beast Wars reinvented Transformers toys in 1996.

Transformers Earthrise on Netflix Today (Probably)
|
Via Netflix: Transformers War for Cybertron Trilogy Earthrise begins its six-episode plop. Reviews have been going around but I haven't yet seen it as of writing this. It's something to do on New Year's Eve since you should be staying home and not going out and kissing anybody new.
Early press seems to indicate it is about as good as the first season Siege, which generally didn't go anywhere particularly new, but supposedly gives Elita-1 a lot more to do. Go get that toy while you can. (I did like Soundblaster as some defective clone gangster, though.) For those keeping track, the Earthrise toy line - which is excellent - is basically over and Kingdom toys are beginning to ship now.

David Willis Unpacks Transformers Earthrise Cameos
|
Via Polygon: Unboxing War for Cybertron: Earthrise's deeper cut Transformers references. Mr. Willis - a nice fellow if ever there was one - is a prolific writer with his comic Dumbing of Age and previously Shortpacked!, but if you're old you also knew him from his appearances on IRC and Usenet Transformers group. As someone who knows their stuff, this article is a can't-miss companion piece to one he did for Siege earlier in the year.
I'm five episodes in to the new show so I skimmed this feature in spots as to not spoil stuff. I can say that, so far, it's better than the last one and now everybody is probably going to be happy they picked up a bunch of Walmart's exclusive deluxe toys earlier.
