Review: Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Protestor
Daily figure reviews return until I am too tired to want to keep doing it! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues and my hopes is it will encourage you to kick in $1 a month to the Patreon which funds hosting for 16bit.com and Galactic Hunter! My goal? $100 a month, which means I don't even get $3 per day to host this thing and pay to fix broken hardware. So how about a buck, Mac?
Because nobody is reviewing Klickies, the Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Protestor is today's figure. She has a can and a drum stick with which to hit it - she's up to cause some chaos. Now that is a blind bag figure. It came out in 2021 and was photographed, in my backlog, waiting to go live. And today's the day! Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Star Wars Review: DJ R-3X (Droid Depot)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: DJ R-3X (Droid Depot). Hasbro made a 6-inch scale one a few years ago, and it's very good. This one is 3 3/4-inch scale and I'd say it's pretty much on par, and cheaper without having to consider inflation. For fifteen bucks, this is just plain good with moving thumbs, three arms, and lots of painted weathering. And an articulated visor, and the headphones, plus also a nicely disguised hole in the head for hat purposes. Disney can do a really great figure when they want to - and here, they surely decided to knock it out of the park.

Our exciting Figure of the Day continues and my hopes is it will encourage you to kick in $1 a month to the Patreon which funds hosting for 16bit.com and Galactic Hunter! Help me keep the servers on and the toy pictures a-rollin'.
There's a massive backlog, so let's look at Blokees Transformers Defender Version 01 Shattered Alliance Scavenger Action Figure. Today's figure kicks off what I hope to be a year of weekly Blokees reviews, because they're neat and I want to get them all opened. What better excuse for forced fun than a weekly deadline? This little green guy is a mishmash of the toy and cartoon, not quite matching any particular version but evoking the vibe fairly well. It's three bucks for a little robot guy, which I consider to be worth the asking price. Read on, and come back Monday for more!

Newish, but sold out! The Onell Design Glyos Infinite Anti-Pheyden Phrangoss was the most ornately painted of the opening trio of Infinite Glyos figures, and it's pretty impressive. There are lots of painted bits on the armor, alternate heads, a blaster arm, a belt, and extra pins for customizing if you're so inclined. There have been at least eight colorways of this guy so far with more to come. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Classic Review: Jakks Pacific World of Nintendo 8-Bit Mario Action Figure
Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! From 2015, Jakks Pacific World of Nintendo 8-Bit Mario Action Figure kicked off a hard-to-find sub-collection of pixel figures. The assortment still runs, but it's all fully realized 3D characters. There are a lot of these I never actually saw, so my collection will probably remain incomplete - but I got Mario. It's not much of a toy, but it can stand on a monitor or door frame because it's super flat. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Recently rerun in a new box! The Hasbro Transformers Generations Legacy Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Decepticon Crasher was a Walmart exclusive in 2022, which I believe I didn't see much until she started hitting Ross. A lot of stores just don't seem to want to stock their exclusives, so I find them on clearance elsewhere. It works. This toy is Mirage, redecorated to resemble the GoBots character. It came out in 2025 in a new Age of the Primes box, and may be around at a store near you. Read on!

Star Wars Review: Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (The Vintage Collection). We've had a few versions of this character as a figure in the past 20 years, which continue to show that it can be a struggle to make a good, tiny bathrobe for your action figures. The head sculpt is good, the inner robes are surprisingly great. The big brown robe is still a little bulky, hangs oddly, and for some reason has a sewn-down hood. Other than face deco, the 2017 ForceLink figure offers a better hood-up experience with superior sleeves. This new Kenobi is a big improvement over many previous cloth robe versions, but it doesn't feel like the Final Form for the character at 3 3/4-inches. There's still room for improvement. Review: Mattel Hot Wheels Pass 'N Go
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Recent! The Mattel Hot Wheels Pass 'N Go is possibly in Walmart bins now, should fortune favor you. The gag: for the 90th anniversary of Monopoly and Mattel's love fest with Hasbro, they took the car game token and made it into a $1.25 real toy. It's great, and it has a tiny top hat on the car seat. I don't love the "90" on the back, but I assume a repaint will come out later without it. Or you could buff it off, or something. I can't, I have to not damage my toys, per toy reviewer law. If you can find this one, even if you don't collect toy cars, get it. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Now appearing in my old Playmospace UFO, the Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Scientist is today's figure. She has a test tube, flasks, and goggles. Because Playmobil is good about compatibility, there are little slots for test tubes in early 1980s space toys that work with this 2019 figure's accessories. The outfit is modern enough that it actually fits in surprisingly well with a sci-fi setting, so it wasn't a bad pull out of the blind bags you used to be able to find at better dollar stores when such a thing existed. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

New Sega Genesis Game, Eventually: Go For It!

Via I Heart Pizza on Bluesky: Go For It!. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive game has been in development for a few years, and has yet to come out. Star Wars Review: Ahsoka Tano (Force Masters / Epic World of Action)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Ahsoka Tano (Force Masters / Epic World of Action). This figure is in Target now as part of a Force Masters multi-pack, which gives new and existing figures "Force" deco. Sure, it's a little silly to give Ahsoka Force lightning on her gloves and lightsabers, but it does look cool and seems in the spirit with the weirdness we used to get from lines from Kenner and Hasbro. The base figure is good, the added deco makes her different from the previous release, and presumably this set will be gone before Ahsoka Season 2 comes out. Grab her now!

There's a massive backlog, so let's look at Blokees Transformers Defender Version 04 Tyrants Fury Brilliant-Hound Action Figure. It's clear green, and it really is bright in the right lighting. |
Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! From 2015, Playmobil Play Box 5638 Haunted House gave us a box redressed as a makeshift horror movie set, complete with lab and castle dungeon motifs. And a Dracula, and a Frankenstein. It's a marvelous little set, and while we've gotten one more big spooky house in Scooby-Doo, we haven't had a haunted castle or other big monster environment. It's a neat set. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Amazon: The Big Box Store?
Via CNBC: Amazon plans first big-box retail store in Chicago suburb. One store is planned, which is expected to be larger than a Walmart supercenter and also serve as a delivery hub of some sort. Amazon's physical stores have been kind of a dud so far, but with Kmart long gone there is certainly some room for another big box store of groceries, dry goods, and that sort of thing.
Right now it's just one store, so even speculating about what this is going to mean seems like kind of a waste of time. I generally prefer to shop at actual stores and not online, so having more places to walk around and poke at old unsold clearance merchandise is where I want things to go.
As far as I know, no new serious contenders for New Toy Store are really popping up. Toys R Us is still licensing its name out, but those aren't widely available and prices are on the higher side. The whole Kay-Bee thing never went anywhere. Maybe somebody named Roy might want to revive a vintage store name.

Star Wars Review: Anakin Skywalker (Cape, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Anakin Skywalker (Cape, The Vintage Collection). It's pretty much the same as a figure we got about a year ago, except this one comes in a boxed set and has an added cape. Is it worth the upcharge for a cape? Ask your completism. It's a perfectly nice figure, but I do worry a bit about the longevity of the elastic bands around his arms that secure the cape in place. Read the whole review.

Review: Kenner Batman Returns The Penguin Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Old! The Kenner Batman Returns The Penguin Action Figure came out at a time when Kenner looked at the old Super Powers Collection sculpts and said "Tim Burton won't mind." The figure applies a darker coloration to a brightly-colored cartoony figure, with no real correlation to Danny DeVito's movie appearance. And that's why it is still interesting. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Star Wars Review: Clone Captain Rex (Force Mech Suit / Epic World of Action)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Clone Captain Rex (Force Mech Suit / Epic World of Action). It's not just the Stormtrooper mech with a new face - this is a whole new mold with new armor bits and clear plastic blasters. The figure pilot is more or less the same as the single carded release (that you can't find) with some added circuit detail. The price has been bouncing up and down for months, so you might even be able to score a deal on it at some point - it's a very nice toy and it's a shame its Amazon exclusivity means people are unlikely to discover it on a toy aisle somewhere.

Not Hot Wheels, but sized the same! Blokees Transformers Blokees Wheels C01 Roll Out! Mirage Vehicle will fit on your orange tracks, but it's a construction kit and lacks metal racing axles. But it looks really good, and the chassis reportedly has a more dense plastic that certainly feels a bit more substantial. Long gone! The Onell Design Glyos Pheyden Prime has certainly vested... because he has a vest, you see. Similar in color to a number of basic Pheydens (but not an exact match to the first one), he's got a blaster, a scarf, and extra switch pins. At time of release, he was a reasonable $12 and you probably wish you got him. A new Pheyden is probably just around the corner, but if not, this is also a very nice and unusual configuration worth seeing. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Classic Review: Playmates Star Trek: The Next Generation Vorgon Action Figure
Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! From 1993, Playmates Star Trek: The Next Generation Vorgon Action Figure was $5 back when this was a pretty fantastic figure for $5. You got a unique alien who never had his parts reused for somebody else. The head deco looks good by modern standards, and was pretty amazing for 33 years ago with lots of extra color around the eyes and painted lips. Back then, Kenner would give you eyebrows, sure, but lips? Maybe on the girls, and not all of the girls. Playmates really tried hard to be a contender in this business, and managed to pick up a lot of fanatical fans up right about until they said "Hey, 1,701 chase figures!" and competition from Kenner with then-new Star Wars. Today this figure's worth $6ish - which means it's cheaper, especially accounting with inflation. I'd recommend it if you like Trek, especially since that whole 1990s line is pretty great. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New! The Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Leader Maximal Big Convoy updates the Japan-only Beast Wars Neo leader who, it turns out, never got released by Hasbro in his original colors or name. We got Ultra Mammoth and Nemesis Prime, but that's it. Any Big Convoy toys were imports, and I couldn't resist back in 1999 - and if you couldn't either, you might still want this update. Star Wars Review: R7-A7 (The Vintage Collection)

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: R7-A7 (The Vintage Collection) . In the not-too-distant past, a few years ago A.D., Ahsoka Tano had to escape the Clones with the help of her robot friends. One of these was R7-A7, now marked down on Amazon. If you think you already had one, you're not wrong - there were cartoon versions from Hasbro and build-a-droid versions from Disney. This 2024 release is good, but it might feel repetitive. I also saw this droid - which comes in a 4-pack with Ahsoka - at Marshall's recently. Happy hunting. Read the whole review.

Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Recent! The Super7 Universal Monsters Bela Lugosi as Dracula ReAction+ Figure is actually fun. It's an o-ring figure, built very much like 1980s Hasbro G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero figures from the swivel-neck days. If you have other Joe (or The Corps) toys, this actually is a fantastic thing to toss in there. Sure, Destro's great, but why not have Bela attack your ninjas? This would have been great in the 1980s and 1990s when Hasbro inserted William "The Fridge" Perry and the cast of Street Fighter II. But you're old now, so maybe you won't do that - but he's sitll super fun. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

From the article: After Hasbro announced last year that it was shifting its headquarters to Boston, state lawmakers are now pushing a bill to retire the toy-inspired tags, framing the effort as an overdue act of 'self-respect.'"

McDonald's Changeables Return Next Week

Via McDonald's: Changeables are returning 1/27. It's not quite obvious how big they are, but the originals were pretty sturdy, fun toys. A Facebook post has a teaser video showing that a page that leaked a few days ago with a very large offering was indeed legit. There's even a Boo Bucket this time.
A few toy industry people have said that the future is in adult/fan/collector spaces. Given the limitations on advertising junk food to children with toys, odds are a lot of people in their 40s are going to see this and make lunch decisions accordingly. |
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Luke Skywalker (Force Masters / Epic World of Action). This is another Target exclusive from their 5-pack, where Luke loses the backpack for Grogu but gains green lightning on his hands. The lightsaber is also unique, in that it's Anakin's hilt with a green, crackling blade. Is it better than the 2024 model? Well, it's different, and probably the kind of thing we'd see more of if the line stuck around with a kid focus. If nothing else, it looks distinctive even if it isn't essential for lifers.

We're taking donations for server costs! Really. One of the rewards is Q&A a few days early - you can read next Monday's installment as soon as it's ready, which can be as early as 1:00 AM my time on Monday!
 Become a Patron!
If you've got a dollar a month to share, please Visit the Galactic Hunter Patreon and help cover our server costs. I'll still put in hours of work, writing, photography, and research - I just need some help making sure that the site costs me only time, and hopefully not money. Thanks for your support!

Review: Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Soundwave with Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, and Ravage
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Soundwave with Buzzsaw, Laserbeak, and Ravage is hard to find, and sells quickly. You get four guys in a box, and while $60 isn't cheap it's not exactly terrible for what you get. The birds share a mold, Ravage is one of Hasbro's best modern takes, and Soundwave is a generally improved version of what we've been seeing. Read on!

Star Wars Review: Sandtrooper (Stormtroopers of the Empire, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Sandtrooper (Stormtroopers of the Empire, The Vintage Collection). The backpack attaches by shoulder straps. It might not be exactly the same as on-screen Sandtroopers, it matches most fans' memory of them with black helmet lenses and little of the unique changes to the armor. But you do get an orange pauldron and three blasters, so it's a nifty figure that you wish you could just buy carded. Right now it's only in a 3-pack. Read the whole review.

Review: Mattel He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Cartoon Collection Grizzlor Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New last year! The Mattel He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Cartoon Collection Grizzlor Action Figure has no fuzzy hair, which means it's probably going to hold up better to age. He includes a Moon Mirror, and is ready to hang out in your Fright Zone with Hordak. There's not much to him other than he looks cool and is one of few toon-style versions of the generally not-very-talkative character. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Via RR Auctions: Steve Jobs & the Computer Revolution: The Apple 50th Anniversary Auction. Old iPods, graded magazines, and computer parts personally owned by the late exec are up for grabs and expensive. You'll want to check these out just to see people paying $5000 or more for some Bob Dylan and Joan Baez 8-tracks.

McDonald's Changeables Are in Store
Via my BlueSky post: The new McDs changeables are indeed about the size of the originals. I got FR-13S for lunch yesterday, and I also informed a bunch of my friends and co-workers who got Cap Cap, and several others. It seems to be the luck of the draw, and a pretty solid little collection. I'm working on a review in the next open slot, and I'd say it's a reasonable thing to get for lunch. The burgers are smaller than I remember. For those who haven't had one lately, a Happy Meal now includes two sides and starts around $5.99.

Review: Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Clown
Daily figure reviews return until I am too tired to want to keep doing it! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues and my hopes is it will encourage you to kick in $1 a month to the Patreon which funds hosting for 16bit.com and Galactic Hunter! My goal? $100 a month, which means I don't even get $3 per day to host this thing and pay to fix broken hardware. So how about a buck, Mac?
Old! In my lifetime, depictions of the job that gives us the Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Clown always seemed old-hat. Binky, Krusty, we're in a post-bozo world that likes Pennywise or Art. This is just some guy with a nose and giant shoes, and while colorful I do wonder how kids felt about pulling this one out of a blind bag in 2021. You could get a puppet guy or a ninja or a skater, but no, you got a clown. Maybe you should've been nicer to your parents, kid, tough break. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Zappa x Beefheart = Bongo Fury 50th
Via Zappa's store as I saw no press thing on their site: Bongo Fury 50th Anniversary 5CD + Blu-Ray Super Deluxe. There's also a double LP for vinyl fans, but the CD has more stuff overall and I'm pretty happy with the original vinyl copies around town. Both versions have a repressing of the original album, plus some bonus tracks. The CD has songs that seem to be new (officially) to this release. (If the LPs had a full download, I'd much prefer that.)
As everyone is fond of saying, there are some outdated cultural references. But it's also Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart (sans magic band), and the Mothers, with multiple live shows if you're in to that sort of thing. It will be out March 20.

Star Wars Review: IG-11 (Speeder Bike / Epic World of Action)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: IG-11 (Speeder Bike / Epic World of Action). This figure is exclusive to this set, and also Amazon. It lacks the "vest" of other figures, so the torso looks off - but otherwise? It's great! Articulation exceeds most of his peers, although The Vintage Collection still has him beat. With a couple of torso tweaks and two black rifles, I think most adult collectors would be happy with this one. After all, it comes with a uniquely decorated speeder bike, and Grogu, and an optional rocket launcher for the same price as a basic Vintage figure. Toys can be very good, so give this one a look.

Review: Blokees Transformers Defender Version 04 Tyrants Fury Blitzwing Action Figure
Daily figure reviews return until I am too tired to want to keep doing it! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues and my hopes is it will encourage you to kick in $1 a month to the Patreon which funds hosting for 16bit.com and Galactic Hunter! Help me keep the servers on and the toy pictures a-rollin'.
Small! Blokees Transformers Defender Version 04 Tyrants Fury Blitzwing Action Figure is the kind of thing that made me go compare the purple sword against series 3 Battle Beasts. They're a very close match! This guy is nicely painted and has excellent articulation for the size and price. I guess I can say that about most of these little guys. They're all very similar, but do a good job capturing the old characters in a small space. I'm still digging through them all. Read on, and come back Monday for more!
