Old! Toy Pizza Glow Vector Jump (Armor Kit) was an add-on set, which let me add glow armor to a material boy figure I had sitting around, doing nothing. It's fun! And has been sold out for over eight years. Well, I still like it. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Classic Review: Jakks Pacific World of Nintendo Jakks Giants Mario Action Figure
Something new every day-- but this was posted 10 years ago today! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Posted 10 years ago! From 2014, Jakks Pacific World of Nintendo Jakks Giants Mario Action Figure was a huge figure. And a big seller. And part of a trend! Jakks Pacific cornered the market on high-run, medium-dollar, big plastic monuments for fairly good prices. A 4-inch figure might be $10, and these 20-inch giants would frequently be in the $20-$30 range. Some were even bigger, and I've got a Mario standing next to Link on some shelves I got from a closing Toys "R" Us in 2018. It's a spectacular bit of toy engineering and a segment of the toy market that completely evaporated once TRU went out of business. It's a shame, I think giant Spider-Man, Mando, and Samus would be great things to have for sale nowadays. This figure had mostly swivel joints but it's something that towers over your other toys and won't break the bank. Or at least, it wouldn't in 2024.
Via me: I saw Neil Hamburger at Valley Bar with opener Mark Proksch! I should probably write more about the shows I've seen, and this was a good one. If you're familiar with Neil Hamburger's act, it was the usual master class in dunking on various musicians in a way that I assume even the targets would find to be an honor. I've seen him a few times, and it's worth noting his merch table had signed copies of the legendary - legendary - "Hot February Night" album on vinyl. Also something called a "Sick Bag" which was a collection of stickers, buttons, pens, and a tour-only Sick Spelled Backwards CD. (I need to listen to this.) It, too, has to do with the roasting of a specific music personality. If you see me at a New York toy show next week, ask me about his David Lee Roth joke.
Mark Proksch is one of comedy's great "that guy"s. You either know him as Colin Robinson as the energy vampire on What We Do in the Shadows, or don't. He was also on The Office and pops up all the time as an unassuming middle-aged guy, and he's dynamite. His set was delightfully goofy and playful, which is ideal when you're dealing with an - in comedy circles - famous face. Any famous person can get the audience on board for five minutes, but he kept going and kept the audience engaged. If you have the chance to see him, do it. I heard a rumor he was going to do yo-yo acts so actually playing with the audience verbally was a surprise.
We've got tickets to see Chris Fleming this weekend, who we saw last year, but Mrs. 16bit wanted to see him again. I can tell you it was a good show.
Via Instagram: More soon! After a weekend leak of Liege Maximo and Nexus Maximus, fans were speculating wildly over the rather thin-looking red and blue member of the Thriteen. Turns out Nexus Prime has a secret torso mode! But it also turns out you're going to need to sacrifice some parts from a Superion (and/or maybe Bruticus) to get him into a combiner mode. Hopefully this means more guys are coming later specifically to build this bot out, it looks like he could use a team of buddies to help him out. What's particularly interesting is the combiner head is very much based on the fan club's Nexus Maximus combiner head.
Semi-related, it's probably a seller's market if you have a complete Nexus Maximus right now as fans probably won't want to wait 2-3 years for more parts to upgrade the new guy, assuming such parts are coming, and I would be pleased to see such things made.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Voyager The Thirteen Amalgamous Prime
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Voyager The Thirteen Amalgamous Prime is still in short supply around town, and is a real weirdo. There are a lot of pieces and you're encouraged to make fan modes out of the various limbs and elements. There are wings, wheels, spears, cogs... you just need to be creative. Me, I'm not so creative, so I'm having less fun with this guy as the arms come off rather easily. I can't argue that it doesn't look cool, though, it's certainly distinctive and stands out against the boxy bots. Read on!
Mike and the bots were how a lot of fans met the show for the first time, thanks in part to a theatrical release with home video back when not every market had Comedy Central and/or the Sci-Fi Channel. Whatever it is, we'll be watching with great interest because it was almost at a million smackers when I wrote this on Monday night.

New in 1982! The Mattel Hot Wheels Land Lord was inexpensive on eBay, so I finally got one. It's orange, and it has great graphics and vibrant color. It also says "Street Is Neat" across its spoiler. It's goofy, but I love it. Also, this was a freebie at some McDonald's locations back then - the cars varied by region. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Old! I had her pegged as a hipster, but online resources seem to believe this lady is a Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Shopper. Sure, we can do that. This plastic person paints her face with plastic goo, and wrecks her hair with some shampoo. Plastic people! It comes in the bag. She turned out pretty well, with a decent printed pattern on the dress that should be right at home in any townscape you happen to have built, assuming you are a fan of German toys in your 40s. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Via radio8.de: Dietenhofen | Playmobil-Werk schlie§t. (Playmobil factory closes.) There are other German factories, and factories elsewhere, but buzz has been their business has been slowing a bit. US distribution has gone from "meh" to "uh-oh," as few to no big chains stock the product and specialty toy stores are themselves an endangered species.
So if you're out and about and see Playmobil, buy yourself a set. Or for a kid. I'm not picky.
Star Wars Review: Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Spirits, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Anakin Skywalker (Jedi Spirits, The Vintage Collection). This figure proves two heads are better than one, with a theatrical release/VHS-era head and a digital-era head. It's a good figure, with some parts from an existing Anakin figure as well as new ones. And also you can rip the figure's chest out with the head attached, so that's neat.

Small! Blokees Transformers Defender Version 05 Traitor to Tyranny Swindle Vehicle Action Figure is a decent little car that doubles as a leg part for Bruticus. Yes, they made a combiner frame (sold separately) so you can make another dude. How cool is that? As a stand-alone vehicle, it's charming - but you might want the Blokees Wheels version for your stand-alone needs. Read on, and come back Monday for more!
Old! Outer Space Men Bluestar Cyclops Action Figure glows long and glows blue. It's still available, but the makers doubled the price. But Electron+ is a mere $10, so maybe go buy that. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Posted 10 years ago! From 2015, Hasbro Transformers Megatron was a hard-to-find, mostly-outside-America release when it was new. The Cyber Battalion figures were surprisingly robust for the price, and required some detective work to find before they started to show up at Universal Studios or, in some cases, Amazon. They're neat.
Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!
Via Bandcamp: ZUZAX! 2 of the 3 vinyl versions sold out of the new record already, so I got Void Vert. It's due in March, and I'm surprised black sold out. More importantly, Hubba Bubba, Bug on Yonkers, Bunker Funk, and Cold Hot Plumbs are on sale for $5 CD/$10 LP. I paid more. They're good.

Via Analogue: Analogue 3D Prototype Limited Edition Consoles. Based on unreleased color concepts from the 1990s, the Ocean, Atomic Purple, Extreme Green, Ghost, and Glacier FPGA-based consoles didn't sell out. I wasn't going to post here because these things usually last less than ten minutes, but it's possible that the $30 upcharge turned people off.
Matching controllers are also available, which I am very tempted to try. Of note, if you're in the market for one of these, the basic black or white consoles are $269.99 while the colorful clear boys are $299.99.
Star Wars Review: The Stranger (Qimir, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Stranger (Qimir, The Vintage Collection). Sure he's $20, but the hair looks great, he has decent accessories, and there are a bunch of unusual figure parts we probably won't see used ever again. Also this is easily the best character design from The Acolyte, so help yourself to one. Read the whole review.

New York Toy Fair Pre-show: Hasbro, Mattel, Super7 License News
Toy companies have been putting out press releases and brand collaboration news, so I put together a list I'll be updating. Highlights: Hasbro got Harry Potter, Mattel got TMNT, and Super7 got My Little Pony, De La Soul, Visionaries, Furby, and others.
Word on the street has it that a few lucky people have seen product early, and they seem excited. We should know more shortly.
Old! Not a butcher, or a candlestick maker, but the Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Lebkuchen Seller is adjacent to bakers. She holds up her wares, as is the style at the time. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: Padme Amidala (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Padme Amidala (The Vintage Collection). This figure shows Hasbro's utter mastery of replicating characters from the 21st century with a head sculpt that's unmatched, with facial printing that's top-notch, and a very nice plastic wig to top it all off. Articulation is superb, and it's a lot better than the most recent 3 3/4-inch releases... and those were also amazing. If you're happy with what you have, don't look at one in person, because you'll be impressed and buy it.

Via The Independent: Iggy Pop replaced by Britpop icon as he steps back from BBC radio show. Iggy Pop is taking off for a year to work on music projects, and will be replaced by Jarvis Cocker. Iggy has been doing the show for 12 years - and I've been listening to a lot of it - so I'm obviously disappointed. I hope he'll come back, but if I were 78 I might just like the idea of going off to do something else.

Review: Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Deluxe Quickstrike
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Newish! The Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Deluxe Quickstrike is a remake of a Fuzors toy I got in a clearance bin in 1999. This new version is much fancier, bigger, and more articulated. But it's $28, the 1990s one was $4.99, on clearance for $2.99, with a coupon that got it down to about 67 cents. That's hard to beat. Read on!
Via Kickstarter/Shout! Factory/Mike/The Bots: SECOND MOVIE REVEAL! is a Roger Corman joint, Space Raiders. It's a sci-fi space western that looks like a really good fit for this sort of thing.
I missed FIRST MOVIE REVEAL!, which is Deathsport. It's also a Corman movie from roughly the same time period, and it has a Carradine in it.
Via Tomy: Nintendo Metroid and Mario. New Metroid toys are an uncommon thing, so seeing giant plush of Samus Aram's helmet and Morph Ball mode really maru'd my mari. Their booth featured tons of toys and mystery box collectible figures, but I focused on what was the most exciting to me personally.
The My Mario toys for kids were really interesting, with a green pipe water toy for the tub and several toddler-safe figures. It's nice to see something that isn't just for people who are old enough to shave.
Ad: Pre-Order New Transformers Matrix of Leadership at Entertainment Earth
Ad: Transformers Studio Series 86 The Transformers: The Movie The Matrix of Leadership Prop Replica. This is Hasbro's first take on a Matrix bigger than what would fit in a toy's chest, and comes complete with a stand, lights, and music. It plays "The Touch" by Stan Bush, which isn't the kind of thing that comes in most toys. This very social media-able recreation should be out soon, so you can pre-order yours right now.
Star Wars Review: Shaak Ti (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Shaak Ti (The Vintage Collection). She's the best version yet in terms of sculpt and engineering, but she also seems much more brightly colored - in line with the cartoons. If you don't have a Shaak Ti, get this one. If you do, you might be happy with what you have - but this is worth a peek, right? Read the whole review.
Review: Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins x ThunderCats Battle Cat Man Action Figure
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
Hair! You can't climb it, but Playmobil "Fi?ures" Figures Rapunzel has a lot to let down. It's a rubbery hair piece with pegs for flowers, so you've got a lot to work with here. A poofy dress clamps over a smaller dress on her legs, so you've got options. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Star Wars Review: Darth Vader (Force Masters / Epic World of Action)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Darth Vader (Force Masters / Epic World of Action). Still in a Target near you, this slightly-repainted version of Vader has very nice red lenses and some red lightning on his hands. And lightsaber. And a big plastic wad of it, just for fun. It's more or less the same as the figure packed with the mech, plus or minus deco and gear. It's pretty impressive for the price, showing that there's a massive chasm continuing to grow between "expensive collector figure" and "perfectly good action figure." I like this set - it feels like a box of toys.

Wheely good! Blokees Transformers Blokees Wheels C01 Roll Out! Hound Vehicle is sized to mesh with your Hot Wheels, but it doesn't roll well. Thankfully it looks superb with shiny paint and exquisite detailing you have to assemble. I like it, it works for me. Read on, and come back Monday for more!
New, and free with a small lunch! McDonald's Changeables FR-13S may still be at a location near you - goodness knows I've gotten a few doubles already. The transformation is very similar to the 1980s original, with a face that looks like a different kind of robot. If you're getting lunch anyway, it's an impressive extra that stands surprisingly large compared to how it looked in the renders. They did a nice job here. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!

Posted 10 years ago! From 2015, Onell Design Glyos December 2015 Stowaway Crayboth Action Figure is proof there are probably too many Crayboth figures, unless you don't have any, in which case you need more. The little crabby guys are really cool, but there's sometimes not much to say other than "behold, this amazing shade of orange." The sculpting is good, the socket-popping gimmick remains top-notch, and it's possible you've got a few of these guys. I'm a fan.
Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Review: Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Deluxe The Thirteen Quintus Prime
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
New! The Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Deluxe The Thirteen Quintus Prime brings lots of tentacles and clear green to the party, as well as the Emberstone. This guy is responsible for bringing life around the galaxy in this franchise - and it actually does bring a lot of zing to the line. It looks different, it's colorful, and I like its vibe. Check this one out. Read on!
Via Variety: Funko-Inspired TV Shows, Movies and Animated Projects in the Works at Rideback, Spuree (EXCLUSIVE). Translating your house style into a multimedia empire is tough to do. Usually it's the characters, rather than the format, that serves as a springboard to success. He-Man, Optimus Prime, they're some sort of star. LEGO figures are doing a good job in this space, Playmobil tried and didn't quite click. We saw Funko Pop! Vinyl figures take center stage in a big video game recently, but people didn't show up for it. LEGO's play features and culture of imagination - and lack thereof - was great for movies and games. Funko makes some great characters that nobody else touches, and does so on one of the best platforms for character figures I've ever seen. But I couldn't tell you what a movie about them would be like unless it was some ironic never-ending toy run snark thing. (Did you ever read that Jim Mahfood Clerks comic from the 1990s? Probably like that.)
I'm posting this here mostly because I want to someday look back at this post and revisit this moment, asking myself how this news release turned out and what things ended up being. Hasbro's Hub network rose and fall quickly. LEGO and Barbie had some pretty good and relevant entries in popular culture beyond direct-to-vide kid fare. And also, Mattel's theme park aspirations are running somewhere in the 3-4 year late range. I hope Funko comes up with something amazing that isn't limited by licensing agreements, much talent has passed through their doors and I would like to see what this could be. There was an animation studio deal a few years ago, but not too much came out of it - I remember seeing some animation at Funko Fundays.
Star Wars Review: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Spirits, The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Spirits, The Vintage Collection). He's a lot like regular Ben, but with ice sculpture hands and feet, and for some reason you can see through his robes. I like the opaque bits a lot, but I feel the clear blue bits are losing me the more I look at these guys. Props to Hasbro for excellent metallic paint on the opaque parts, I think they're on the right track and hopefully we'll get something without see-through clothes after he's dead. How undignified. Review: Super7 Alien UCCSS Nostromo Action Figure Set 2
Something new every day-- unless it's old! Our exciting Figure of the Day continues for you lucky people! Is there anything we won't cover in this column? Probably not!
1979-esque! The Super7 Alien UCCSS Nostromo Action Figure Set 2 bring Yaphet Kotto and Harry Dean Stanton what they've always wanted - a blood-covered alien figure with two amazing actors. These packs are no longer available at most shops, but you can get them at the usual collectory places, maybe. I like it. I think you will too. Read on, and come back tomorrow for more fun!
Via the Glyos News Dump: New Drop: Onell Design Thursday at 9:30 PM EST. The head seems to be a pirate lion (which you'll understand is exciting), but also it reminded me of a resin The Godbeast Head I got around 2013 - I included the picture in my blog post.
Ad: Marvel Legends Maximum Series Thor 6-Inch Action Figure. He's got faces, wigs, and a frog - that's a pretty decent selection. He also has a wire cape, which Hasbro has been doing more of lately - order yours now, if you like!
Star Wars Review: Princess Leia Organa (The Vintage Collection)
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Princess Leia Organa (The Vintage Collection). She's gone now - and hopefully she'll come back, because this is a good figure with swappable hoods. The hair is a separately molded piece, the face printing is good, and this figure is about as good as you can get with molded plastic. I'm impressed by the waist joint and how her dress hangs over the belt just a bit. The only real shortcoming might be how her sleeves bend with the elbow joints, which may make another case for swappable, pre-posed arms that may look better on display. Point is, you should get one of these.

MOTU Video Game Loves Filmation, Origins, Cartridges
Via Limited Run Games: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction. There will be a digital release, and it would see the pre-order goes up April 28 for whatever consoles they're doing. Details weren't listed, but I'm particularly interested as LRG had previously secured exclusive action figures with some of its games. I don't know of any but I do know if they wind up with Filmation Sorceress I'll be plunking down the asking price.
The teaser video has Filmation-specific characters, some Origins-first toys, and other goodies running around. One summon seems to be making a nod to Golden Axe and features Orko and a dragon. It looks pretty cool, and I'm pretty sure I heard one Stan Bush singing. They did a nice job here.
