New! The Hasbro Transformers Age of the Primes Tailgate is a retool of Windcharger, with aspects that look more like the season 3 The Transformers cameo of the character. It's not the IDW version, but odds are someone over there is working on one. If you want to complete your G1 minicars as bigger deluxe figures, this gets the job done. Read on!

Recent! The Super7 G.I. Joe Tiger Force Snake Eyes ReAction+ Figure seems to have been replaced by the new Ninja Force exclusives, but you should check it out. The sculpt is extremely smooth and in these colors, looks fantastic. Also, like a banana. I think they understood the assignment - I really like this figure and had to have it. He has a backpack, a sword, and an uzi plus wonderful black stripes on his yellow outfit. You can't really hide in this outfit, but that's not really the point - it took Tiger Force to the more extreme elements of the fashion world. It's grrrrrreat. Read on!

A technically vintage Japanese toy! The Tomy Zoids Hammer Rock Figure Figure Kit is a 2001 reissue of a 1980s kit, this time mostly in gray and black with red bolts. I always see the cockpit as more of a beak, but it has a nice helmet and some cannons that go nicely on the small frame. There's a green window and a blue pilot that you probably won't see much, but it's a cute little guy and he was super cheap.

Articulation is more or less on par with any other Astromech droid, with different proportions and colors. What I particularly like is that he meshes well with the Droids cartoon C-3PO and R2-D2, even though they're centuries apart. Hey, it's not like we have and Young Jedi Adventures in this style to collect so I'm happy to put this droid in with other droids.

An arm! Blokees Transformers Defender Version 06 Brutal Fang Vortex Vehicle is a cute vehicle without much paint, but you can make it in to a Bruticus arm if you have the right kits. For a $3 little helicopter, it's pretty great - but it's not as impressive as the figures. I'm not complaining, it's still a neat toy for the asking price. Read on, and come back Monday for more!

Everybody has extra spikes, tufts, or other mutations including one that looks like a T-Rex got DNA from Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner. I'm not saying that to be cruel, it has some familiar plumes of feather-like ornamentation and a lot of brown furry, feathery texture. It's interesting to see what liberties the toy designers are making, so when you check these out you'll also want a tab open on Wikipedia. Most of the big guys seem to hew toward movie monsters and away from ancient animals.

This year's Survival line is similar, but with more fins and tears. Given Primal Ambush seem to be upping the mutation game, I'm really hoping this means we get more Chaos Effect-inspired toys in the Reimagined line. (Hey, I bought the orange and purple T-Rex already.)

Posted 10 years ago! Outer Space Men Infinity Edition Colossus Rex 2.0 Action Figure is one of very few reviews that came up and makes me feel old. If you asked me "how many years ago did this redeco/rerelease of the 2014 remake of the 1969 original come out?" I'd probably say "I dunno, five years?" This figure is brighter, more metallic, and shinier with gold (rather than purple) armor. I hesitate to say it is superior, but it is very good and was at the time a much cheaper alternative to previously released painted Colossus Rex figures. I have a soft spot in my heart for this entire line, and if you can ever get them for a fair price you totally should. It's a (big) 3 3/4-inch scale alien with parts you can pop off at every joint. Unfortunately the license holder still has some left for sale... and is asking $400 each. The $30 I paid seemed a trifle hight at the time, but I wanted it, and it was cool, and I never once regretted paying $30. Hopefully they do another run of "Infinity Edition" figures at a more affordable price some day. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

New! The Hasbro Transformers Studio Series 86 Kranix made his toy debut a few years ago, but he was tiny and couldn't transform. This one mashes up the comic book alt mode with something very close to a less-skinny version of the movie guy. In other words, it's a real new transforming Transformers character, from a cartoon, and it's one that isn't all that obscure. You should snag one of these if you need something fresh. Read on!

Recent! The Super7 Universal Monsters Bride of Frankenstein ReAction+ Figure adds to the monster shelf with a figure that looks like it could have been at home in 1987. The wrappings on the body are good, the articulation is perfect for a 1980s G.I. Joe, and she's pretty easy to come by. The use of cloth was a good choice, but she can still wear a backpack with a hole in her torso if you so choose. Read on!

The Tomy Zoids Iron Kong Figure Kit is a 1999 reissue of a 1980s kit, but things got weird. The rocket launcher fell off while I was writing the review, a random tab appeared out of nowhere, one of the rockets fired off to places unknown and another split in two. It's otherwise fine, but an odd and harrowing start to saying this is a classic kit and I hope they reissue it again. Given the break on the rocket, I'm a little worried about the longevity of the very hard plastic used for the gorilla "skin." This one is probably for display only at this point, so get yourself another Iron Kong or Badox if you want one to march around with the battery-powered motor..

The bad news for me, it's only on Switch 2, and Switch 2 went up to $500. Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is due for Switch, PS5, Xbox, and Steam on October 15. A new trailer went up a few days ago, and it makes the game look extremely difficult with lots of unpleasant jumps. I look forward to the reviews.

She has unique, big sleeves that at first glance seem ridiculous - but if you freeze-frame the movie you'll find they're closer to the mark than the capes she had on 1990s figures. Who knew? The face deco seems to vary from figure to figure, so she may not look exactly the same on every sample - but she's decent and fills a request fans have had in this line. She's also the only main character in the wave, which is available at Target now, and we're almost done reviewing here.

Stop dragon my heart around! Blokees Transformers Defender Version 07 Power of the Beast BW-Galvatron is a small, cartoon-flavored take on the 1990s Japanese import toy. If you don't have space for the big New Legends version, this one fits in your pocket and is $3. To me, that's a pretty compelling argument to try it. Read on, and come back Monday for more!

You get a licensed car mode with a figure that seems to reimagine the old G1 toys as putting licensed car modes first, with simple transformations and some of those limitations. I don't plan on picking one up, but it's worth noting for those on the fence: the first Optimus Prime from this line got super expensive. Nemesis Prime remains roughly at its issue price. If nothing else, it's notable to see another crossover product even if the price is not what Transformers fans tend to expect.

It's not a repaint - based on the pictures, it's a new mold and based on the dimensions, it's smaller. The "width" of the box matches up with the Reimagined Real Feel Carnotaurus, and this green T-Rex is a few inches shorter than the other '93 and Reimagined lengths. The Carnotaurus' box was 17-inches wide, and this new T-Rex is listed at 15.7. Of course, this might be wrong - the Indoraptor is listed at 3.9-inches wide, and it is at least triple that.

It also seems to have the open belly for retrieving consumed figures, and the pose has the right leg going forward, rather than the left leg of most Mattel T-Rex toys. It's also notable that it's about $5 more than other recent comparably sized "Reimagined" dinos. Also there's a video, Mattel's showcases are significantly shorter than Hasbro's.

For those keeping track at home, that's five Reimagined dinosaurs across three packages due at Target during the first week of January. But only this one seems to have metal teeth. While previous toys tended to nod toward concept art, Kenner, or Hasbro, this one doesn't. It might mean there's a new direction taking nods from the designer toy world or even something like Japan's limited edition sofubi kaiju market... which might make it hard to keep going after a dozen T-Rexes. Right now, the '93 collection (2023-2024) released two and its Reimagined successor has an additional two and counting.

A mail-order exclusive! Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins Sy-Klone Action Figure was a Mattel Creations exclusive, and a pretty good one. I love the colors, the accessories, and the lenticular chest label. I didn't like that the wheel mechanism to make him spin doesn't really work at all. It's kind of terrible - but at least Sy-Klone has lots of joints and none of the mechanisms disrupt his ability to be posed and look cool. Read on!

Posted 10 years ago! Hasbro Transformers Generations Titans Return Astrotrain was a big deal back then. It was the first new take on him in nearly a decade, but since then we've had the Siege model (repackaged for Earthrise) plus this year's very nice Studio Series 86 edition. It was a nifty toy at the time. You could tear his head off, and it could be a tiny pilot for the vehicle modes. The colors were great! The vehicle modes were not. There's a lot to like about the robot, but you'll probably want one of the newer ones. Do read on, and come back tomorrow for a new one!

Old, and older! The Transformers Generation One Reissue Outback Action Figure is a reissue of a reissue - the original 1980s toy got a rerelease with a blue visor in Japan, and a few years later it got an individually carded reissue at Walmart. It was $8, and I remember griping about the price at the time. $8 is really good for this guy, as it feels like an old figure minus the squeaks and paint wear. There are some inexpensive ones (especially in collections) on eBay, so if you want something old but don't want to pay vintage prices this is a decent substitute. Read on!

New! The Operation: Recall Sol Eagle Action Figure feels like something we should have had 30 years ago. The paint is really something, although much more glossy than the vintage equivalent. This 2026 release combines the idea of a military that doesn't go for uniforms with a fan's Puerto Rican Wrestler character idea, and adds some incredible firepower and a great costume. Check out those eagle knee pads! Don't miss the painted laces on the mask and boots. Marvel at the removable ammo canisters and giant belt. They really packed a lot in this one, I like it. Read on!

A technically vintage American reissue of Japanese reissue of a then-vintage toy toy! The Hasbro Zoids Venomous Viper Figure Kit is a reissue of a 1980s kit, but in fairly similar colors as the original. The hues are changed, the stickers are new, and the pilot doesn't have a metal finish - but the clearance racks had it in abundance for $2. You could build your own snake robot with a wind-up motor, and I miss this kind of thing being around to just buy when you feel like it. Granted, it was a very short window when you could do that.

The Kickstarter has a fairly charming video with cheap costumes and voice modulation. If it gets funded, it'll have at least ten figures, a comic, and a lunchbox. Each carded figure is around $28 before shipping, and a lunchbox has 8 figures in it for $199. And there are stretch goals with little arcade cabinet boxes. These look really cool, and are the kind of thing that appeals to a specific underserved collector set that loves Kenner figures and bootlegs and has $29.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet, but I love the idea. They're due to ship August 2027, and maybe I'll order some once they're in the warehouse. I appreciate that they have lightsabers and I assume the Kill-O-Zap blaster.

She has the old-style hip joints, with a twist - they're good now! Typically those pre-ball-and-socket hips have been stiff and a real hassle to move, especially for pilot figures, but Hasbro did something to ensure smoother movement and I'm impressed. It's actually easy to get her in the vehicles. The body is more or less a reuse of the previous Rebel Pilot body - yes, the orange flight suit - but with a new head, new vest, and new boots hiding it all. I know a lot of fans decry old mold reuse, and there are a couple of little bits that don't quite match up with the costume photography, but it's all rather clever and pretty great for what is likely to be the only figure we ever see of this character.

A decent vehicle and a decent pilot! Mattel Masters of the Universe Origins Mekaneck and Ground Ripper Action Figure giveth and taketh away. You get a Mekaneck (without neck mechanism) with extra joints! But Mattel has yet to make an Origins carded version, and presumably won't at this point. You also get a Ground Ripper - minus the pull-strip motor thing. But it was all somewhat inexpensive, and I sometimes still see these around town pretty cheap. It's a good set for what it is. Posted 10 years ago! Onell Design Outer Space Men Alpha 7 Zekroyas was a superb bonus release crossover item. It took a character from the 1960s, used the updated 2011 sculpt, and gave us a unique and arguably better color scheme in 2016. It was cool, it was cheap, and it sold out fast. Sadly The Outer Space Men really slowed new releases and there haven't been new crossover figures from Onell Design for a while either, but at least we have a pretty fabulous stash of guys like this to enjoy and/or be angry we missed. Between Hasbro and Blokees and Shu Shu Papa and other companies, you probably want to see what's there just as a matter of research.

The rerelease of the 1986 movie is posed to be #8 at the US Box Office this weekend. While that's probably thanks to a new short at the end of the credits, it's still a remarkable $3.1 million take that does pretty well against the $5.8 million 1986 box office. It's not huge dollars but combined with the nostalgia collector toys, they did a nice job. We'll see if Hasbro, LEGO, and the rest can pull bigger magic out of their hats with Star Wars when it hits theaters in February as a major IMAX and regular release.

Gone! The Transformers Collaborative Generation One Reissue Blaster, KP Glit, KP Sundor, KP Rosanna Action Figure Set debuted at SDCC and combined a new colorway of Blaster as Jem, along with the reasonably obscure to non-wiki Americans Kiss Player cassettes from nearly 20 years ago. At $60, it's a pretty good set for the asking price. Read on!

A retail VHS is promised - I was looking up DVD and Blu-Ray, nothing yet - but I also found a heck of a fun collectible concept. Camp Miasma VHS Sleeves exist for the entire franchise, so you can put 14 papercraft boxes on your shelves all based on the fake sequels.

Meanwhile, I still haven't found any local-ish screenings of The History of Concrete and Low Cinema is too far away and also too sold out for me to see it there. I'm hoping to sneak off to check the theater out next time I'm in New York.
