Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated
|
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Anakin Skywalker (Battle Damage) figure from 2005. You can cut off his arms and legs. This release is a lot like the quick-change Batman figures, except that it actually works pretty well. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

New Leaks: US Masterpiece Grimlock Box, Club Cyclonus
|
It's Grimlock! The ACToys.net forum has a gallery of the US toy in his American packaging, which seems to have a lot in common with last year's Skywarp for Wal-Mart.
Also gorgeous, the Transformers Club's own exclusive Shattered Glass with Krunix. It's a repaint of the Universe toy from 2009, and, obviously, is totally worth your money. It's red.

PS3: PSN Updates This Week
|

PSP: PSN Updates This Week
|
PSPMinis this week (the only new releases) include Telegraph Crosswords. It's $2.99, and we lied-- it's the only PSP game this week.
Also, word on the street has it that Sony will be putting some games out at $9.99 in retail spaces. While admirable, it doesn't get down to the system's key problem, which is that when it comes to quality software money really is no object. The PSP just needs more games worth playing, cheapness isn't going to make them better.

Thundercats To Return, Give James Lipton Residuals
|
This post at Wizard Universe pretty much says it all-- Warner Bros. is reactivating the barely-used IP in 2011 for a new TV show. It is unknown if the recent "staction figure" license covers this show or merely classic product, but either way, a new cartoon approaches. Hopefully it'll go over better than the 2002 Masters of the Universe.

Revealed: Generations Red Alert, Botcon G2 Rapido
|
While not yet confirmed, it is widely assumed that this Rapido toy based on the Universe Silverstreak mold will be an add-on gift item for Botcon 2010. Check him out on ACtoys.net, and bask in all his glory.
Also feast your peepers on the vehicle mode of Generations Red Alert, which is slightly different than the Henkei release. Depending on your fandomness, you may prefer this one over the other due to its lower price and stronger adherence to the original toy rather than the cartoon. (We say "cartoon" because it really isn't an anime.)

Not even close. Still, he's a new figure from Eternia and there are very few that qualify as totally new, so here you go. We prefer Optikk, but if you like lion king dudes, here you are.

E3: Xbox News Bites You Should Care About
|
It's E3! So what do we care about since Microsoft went up to bat first?
Summer of Arcade 2010! Castlevania Harmony of Despair is supposedly a multi-player 2D castle crawler, so we're quite keen to try it. Also coming: Hydro Thunder Hurricane, Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, Limbo, and Monday Night Combat. So three franchises you might care about in there.
Microsoft's Natal motion-sensor camera control has been rebranded as Kinect. New games were shown, of note are a quasi-sequel to Rez called Child of Eden and a Star Wars game of some sort.
A new Xbox 360 hardware revision is shipping as of today and it's black, shiny, and designed to better work with Natal Kinect. If you have this unit, Kinect plugs right in. If you don't, you'll need an extra power supply.

Of interest, a 3Der remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time is coming for it, plus other new titles are in the works.

Xbox 360 US to get Otomedius Excellent
|
...not to be confused with "Otomedius Gorgeous." It's a Konami 2D shooter, but with girl jet things. We're told the gameplay is quite fun, and it's a little dirty-ish too. From the Konami press release:
In Otomedius Excellent, gamers will be able to choose from nine stunning characters as they battle through all-new stages in an expanded world full of intense 2D sidescrolling shooter action. Players can team up for the experience with up to three players locally or online via Xbox® LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360. Additionally, an expanded gallery mode allows players to view their unlocked wallpapers and graphics in a gallery that grows as they progress through the game. Gamers will also be able to tap into a wealth of exciting downloadable content to be announced later.

Transformers News Galore
|
A ton of news today! Some official shots of several new deluxe toys got out, including Darkwing, Red Alert, and Terradive. Tomahawk resembles Armada Cyclonus in some ways.
The wonderful people at KOToys.com have a full gallery of Red Alert from Generations. His license plate is "05 ALERT" and we don't get the 05 part.
Over at the Transformers Club, there are now packaging shots of their exclusive Shattered Glass Cyclonus and Punch/Counterpunch toys. It's worth noting these were posted after the toys shipped to customers, and they still haven't revealed the head of Punch/Counterpunch officially-- but between you and us, the head is smaller than anticipated and was not painted according to spec. We still want one.

Japanese Exclusive, Seaspray + Breacher, Amazon WFC
|
In addition to an Animated pack, a classics-themed Transformers Sons of Cybertron set is coming. The clear figures included are Rodimus from 2006 and the Optimus Prime from the 2-pack.
KOToys.com has a gallery of the new Breacher toy situated in the back of the new Beachcomber toy. It looks pretty good.
It's also worth noting Amazon has Optimus Prime and Bumblebee from War for Cybertron in stock at press time. While more than the $12.99 at Target/etc., shipping is free when you get both, and sales tax may be enough so that it's worth your while. The game goes on sale officially tomorrow but many have reported finding it out early.
A new gallery at KOToys has a new Tracker Hound test shot, but more interesting is a blue Hound repaint we have not yet seen. Anyone know about this one?

Venture Bros. Dr. Orpheus Bobble Head

Outer Space Men Test Shots
|
Over at The Action Figure Insider, find test shots of the Outer Space Men. The line is a revival of a line of bendable figures from a while back, and odds are if you collect 1980s toys you have no idea who or what they are. You may know them as "Colorforms Aliens" compatible with Mattel's Major Matt Mason toys. Anyway, these new ones are based on the Glyos design, are sculpted by the Four Horsemen, and basically look like things you absolutely need to own. (Hell, we're trying to figure out if we can find a way to buy one of the test shots.) Do check it out.
If you are unfamiliar with the Onell Design Glyos toys, go here. They're pretty cheap, so you may as well take a look as they are quite nifty.

Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Dred Priest figure that Hasbro more or less invented as one of their few original character creations. It was a fast-selling online exclusive for Entertainment Earth, and now it is gone. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Awesome Darkmount Shots, More Possible Botcon Toys Revealed
|
First up, Hasbro is sharing the images of Darkmount from Generations, or Straxus to fans of the original comic books. It's surprisingly gorgeous, far better than Hasbro's previously revealed illustrations.
On the auction site Taobao, there are three auctions with new images of known and previously unseen (presumed) Botcon items. This Scorponok repaint is presumed to be Double Punch, an Action Master. This Downshift repaint may well be Slicer. Finally, Clench is Clench, but you see the vehicle mode better here.
Finally, Transformers: War for Cybertron is due in stores today for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. We'll be waiting for the inevitable markdown. Or, if we're really lucky, some exclusive toy bonus version.

Xbox 360 Dreamcast Edits A-Coming
|
Over on Joystiq you can find some dirt on the upcoming Dreamcast ports for the Xbox Live Arcade. (Interestingly, Crazy Taxi is one of very few actual arcade games on the docket.)
Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi will both retain their original 4:3 aspect ratio. Crazy Taxi will have a new soundtrack with, seemingly, soundalikes. So much for fans of Bad Religion and the Offspring. Here's hoping they can let you port in your own tunes too.

Transformers News Buffet
|
Words cannot express our rage at the lead news bite, because Botcon's customization class got an exclusive which we were hoping would get made. Only 52 of this Botcon G2 Sideswipe were made, and we're crying. Who wants to sell us one? Anyone?
Also from Botcon, some pretty nice new images of Slicer and Double Punch in multiple modes. Worth a look.
In Japan, a ton of new items were announced. Click here to see the whole spread, which covers new Animated designs, a 2010-themed Primus, G2-inspired ROTF Dreadwing and Smokejumper, and a bunch of new Legends. Read it and weep, we suppose. We're weeping.
An unknown test shot for an upcoming (presumably) Classics Rodimus Repaint in animation colors showed up, and boy howdy, is it bright and pretty. We love it. We must have it.
Kmart stores have an exclusive War for Cybertron comic book as a premium for the game. Some stores, it seems, are giving them away if you ask nicely-- we got one yesterday. You may wish to ask your local Kmart to get one. We'll have a feature on it later this week.
Finally, Amazon's War for Cybertron Optimus Prime and Bumblebee toys did indeed ship-- we got ours yesterday afternoon. As an added bonus, some Toys "R" Us stores are receiving these, so you may actually stumble on them much sooner than the expected August date. Happy hunting!

Risk, Duke Nukem for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade Buried This Week
|
Xbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Duke Nukem Manhattan Project, which has 24 levels of blowing up stuff. The $10/800 point title is one player, so yeah, there you go.
At the same price is the arguably interesting but most likely hobbled Risk Factions, which we hope isn't as awful as the other Hasbro games were for online play. Damn you, EA, and your servers!

Transformers News: From Botcon
|
Buckle up! First up, TFW2005 has a big gallery of the Hasbro booth from Botcon, including quite a bit of new stuff. Some are repackaged toys you've seen, the most interesting of which is a G1-colored boxed seat of the Seacons. The price and exclusive (if it's exclusive) tag was not visible, but wow. Animated Ironhide and Rodimus Minor were shown, as were a G1-colored version of Movie Legends Devastator (marked "exclusive" but it didn't say whose) and numerous other toys.
Also new was confirmation of the remaining show exclusiuves, as well as prices.
Slice (Energon Downshift repaint) - Free Attendee Exclusive
Rapido (Universe Silverstreak repaint) & Cindersaur (BWX Megatron repaint) - $72
Scorch (Hound), Shattered Glass Ravage (Ravage), and Double-Punch (Energon Scorponok) - $79
Sharkticons 3-Pack (Energon Sharkticon repaint) - $60

Star Wars Q&A, Figure of the Day Updated

Galactic Hunter has posted a new Q&A column this week! Be sure to click through and read up on the latest! Also, be sure to send in your questions for next week's thrilling update.
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Chewbacca figure from the Early Bird mail-in set. You know, the one that was supposedly hard to get? And is now sub-worthless? Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
Far more exciting, though, is the revelation of the Toys "R" Us Exclusive Rise of Boba Fett Ultimate Battle Pack at Sandtroopers. 5 figures, a Jedi Starfighter repaint, and an all-new Slave I. It's quite ridiculously grand. And it seems that the Mace Windu Jedi Starfighter matches our web colors. We like.

Botcon Tidbits
|
We tried doing a Botcon write-up, with all the news, but it was just too damn much and too disorganized to get into one place. So here are some toy announcement highlights.
- Blurr will be made from Drift's mold, and will include an IDW-centric head and a sniper rifle. [ See it at The Allspark ]
- The Collector's club will have Side Burn as a freebie, and G2 Ramjet and TransTech Cheetor as exclusives
- Botcon 2011 will be in Pasadena (again)
- Hasbro's new Generations assortment will include Skullgrin (based on Darkmount), Perceptor, Thunderwing, Jazz, Tracks, Scourge, and lots of others
- Hasbro's Power Core Combiners will include dinosaurs in 2011, supposedly in G1-inspired Dinobot colors
- Dinobot got in the "Hall of Fame" which supposedly is significant in some way (it isn't)
- A Rodimus Prime (Classics Rodimus) upgrade kit was shown [ TFW2005 has pics ]
- Legends will return with G1-inspired Optimus Prime, Prowl, Starscream, and a gun Megatron
- Kup may or may not be on the way
- Hasbro contradicted themselves on if there will or will not be toys from the new TV show Transformers: Prime (there will be, they aren't stupid)
Also new in the Transformers world, an auction for a Green Shining Unicron from Micron Legend is on Yahoo, and you won't see another one for years. That's why it's over $1,000 in US funds.

Playmobil Magazine in Germany Comes With Toy Africa, Seemingly

Early issues of the German Playmobil magazine had figures and accessories, and later ones had binoculars and other roleplay goods. WHY: Good Luck Trolls Return
|
Over at The Raving Toy Maniac, find a press release explaining the new licensing deal between Dreamworks and Dam Things From Denmark, an oddly appropriate name here, about the revival of Good Luck Trolls. After a massive push in the 1990s across numerous brands for boys, girls, and older folks, it seems now they are going to be pushed into movies and that probably means a movie. Screw you, Monday, we were having so much fun with the Transformers news over the weekend.

Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated, Vehicle Features Too
|
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Princess Leia Organa (All-New Likeness) figure from 1998, which was a vast improvement over the 1995 version. Except she can't sit. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series! As an added bonus, we also posted two vehicle previews-- the Cloud Car and the Snowspeeder! Each is due in early August, but we simply could not wait.
The Snowspeeder is an all-new mold from Hasbro, rather than another in a series of improvements on the 1980s original toy. While it has no electronics, the sculpt is phenomenal and the amount of additional equipment included in the box is unusual for a Hasbro product at this price point. In addition to that, the Cloud Car is the second action figure-scale version of the ship ever made and it also is just now starting to make the rounds. It can split in two, fire rockets, and fill the gap on your shelf cast by the 2004 Cloud Car Pilot. Now your life can be complete!

Even More Darkmount Shots, PCC TV Spot
|
An astonishingly extensive gallery with equally astonishingly large watermarks has appeared of Darkmount from Generations, this time with plenty of size comparisons. We know you've seen the toy, and it'll likely be in stores before the month ends, but hey-- we love to drool over these things.
Finally, Hasbro or someone has revealed a Power Core Combiners TV ad which pretty much tells you what you already know. And that's that you want some Power Core Combiners toys.

More New Transformers Hit, iGear To Make MP Dirge (Essentially)
|
First up: iGear Toys is preparing a toy it calls Elegy which is clearly patterned after the Masterpiece Starscream toy mold. Did they change it enough to not infringe? Well, the lawyers can figure that one out, but it's just a few Decepticon logos away from being a passable Hasbro product. Love it or hate it, it's hard to deny it certainly looks like an authentic Transformers-branded product, which it is not. (Hasbro will be producing a new Dirge figure for its Generations line this fall. It will be $12ish. This toy will not be.)
We also spotted Power Core Combiners-- all 5-- along with numerous Gold-boxed Hunt for the Decepticons product at a Phoenix-area Toys "R" Us last night. We did not see Scout-class toys, but seemingly everything else was present down to new Legends. And on that note...

Review: Transformers Generations Thrust
|
Hasbro has released many toys named "Thrust" over the years, but this one is the closest to how the cartoon character is painted. Based on the 2007 Ramjet mold-- which itself started life as a 2006 Starscream-- this version includes new wings and a new paint job. Surprisingly, it also includes a tiny bit of chrome under the canopy. He turns from a jet to a robot. If you've been following this line since 2006, 2007, or even 2008, there's probably nothing here to surprise you. Very similar Thrust toys were previously sold at Botcon in a boxed set to the tune of nearly $300 (and more on the secondary market), and a 2008 Japanese release (of which this is a repaint) was closer to $100 at some times.
