Star Wars Figure of the Day Updated
|
Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Mandalore figure from a few years ago-- and he's pretty great. An entirely new sculpt is bolstered by the fact he was the very first figure to be made from the Tales of the Jedi comic book series. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

LEGO Series 2 Out, Custom Diamond Dave
|
Series II of the LEGO Minifigures are out-- which is nice, but to be expected. Your local LEGO shop or Toys "R" Us should have these, and prices are slowly creeping up-- expect to pay $2.99 now. More exciting: this custom David Lee Roth made from existing figure parts. How awesome? SO AWESOME.

Zoids Die-Cast Liger Coming
|
While not a member of the Zenevas combat team, this swell Die-Cast Metal Liger Zoids Figure is freaking pricey at about $200. With 24 moving parts, if this summary is right, it's 44cm-- or in real measurements, that's about 20-inches. Wow. Nice.

US Masterpiece Rodimus Rumor Not Confirmed But Rumored
|
Is it true? Or is it crazy speculation? We don't know but TFW2005 has a report of a rumor that the upcoming Masterpiece Rodimus/Hot Rod from Japan may see a US release minus his "Prime" trailer, which would be, of course, very disappointing if true. The rumor also says he may include a Targetmaster buddy-- which is much less disappointing if true. What's the deal? Read the article... and prepare to wait for news.

The PSOne game Theme Hospital has been released for download at $5.99 instead of something you might want.
Tons of games are on sale-- the classic Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is down to $7.49.

Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!
Today we look at the Bossk figure from 2007 which was rereleased this year, and it's pretty great. We would prefer to take it and not leave it. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

G.I. Joe Pit Playset for $20, 2011 Club Figure Revealed
|
The biggest playset in nearly two decades for G.I. Joe is now down to $20. $20! Toys R Us has the Pit down to $19.99 which is nothing short of insane. We bought two. One for the week, one for the weekends. The reviews on this item are largely mixed due to cardboard elements in its construction, but dude, $20.
Also exciting is the announcement of the next G.I. Joe Collector's Club figure. The 2011 figure will be a 25th Anniversary-style Dial Tone! Which we found out just hours after we signed up to get a discount on the Adventure Team figures to review for you later. How nice! We did not get the announcement email, but The Terror Drome has more information to read.

Doc, Marty, Video Games
|
While print may be dead, USA Today got a great story about the new Back to the Future game from the always delightful Telltale Games. Highlights: Christopher Lloyd is Doc Brown, Bob Gale is somehow involved, and Marty McFly is present. Good enough for us! The game will hit PSN, XBLA, and the PC.

Third Party Custom Headmasters
|
Fan site TFW2005.com has a story on some fan-made Headmasters which came from this auction from Yahoo Japan and are the cutest things you will ever see today. Look at the little lion that turns into a head. Adorable.
These are updated versions of Lione, Shuffler, and Kirk, which are three toys you'd never see in the wild anyway unless you're crazy, rich, or crazy rich, and our statistics tell us you are likely only one of these things.

Vintage 1970s Concept Art for Atari Computers
|
If these conceptual paintings for Atari computers don't make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, you're dead to us. A number of amazingly gorgeous works of art-- or rather, works of commercialism-- are on display from the 1970s, and the entire ISO50 Blog from which it came is packed with similar vintage, retro, and otherwise gorgeous art and knickknacks from which to inspire drooling.

Tron Legacy Toys Hitting Stores Already
|
At a local Toys "R" Us yesterday, we saw several Tron Legacy action figures in the 3 3/4-inch scale from Spinmaster. The figures themselves look a few rungs below Hasbro's similarly sized offerings, but largely better than Zizzle's Pirates offerings from a few years ago. The masked characters looked pretty good, but the human faces were particularly iffy-- Jeff Bridges' wasn't exactly good. All had light-up features (yes, even Bridges' white robe has light-up bits) and at the price seemed maybe a smidgen more than would have been ideal. But they're showing up, and again, those helmeted dudes look pretty cool.

G.I. Joe Fury, VAMP Galleries
|
The site theterrordrome posted galleries of the just-shipped Cobra Fury and G.I. Joe VAMP that you might as well look at.
Highlights: the VAMP can hold a ton of figures and has a whopping 86 stickers, which is preposterous. Is it any wonder kids aren't in to this line? It's a freaking job. The Cobra Fury clocks in at 65 stickers.

PCC Dinobots Auction Generations Waves 2, 3 Hitting US Retail
|
A good few images from a Yahoo Japan auction for Transformers Power Core Combiners Grimstone have surfaced, showing off several of the modes. We're still not completely sold on the look but we really do love dinosaur robot toys.
Still can't find Transformers Generations toys Darkmount, Red Alert, Soundwave, and Meagtron? Worry not, they're hitting US stores as of this weekend-- we found some at a local Toys "R" Us. Good hunting!

Marvel Iron Patriot Variant Hitting (And Nice), TRU Nick Fury Set
|
Hasbro has a large chunk of figures coming out for its Marvel line as well as some stealth variants like Iron Patriot with an exposed Norman Osborne head. We saw a few over the weekend, and we must say, it's quite impressive.
Toys "R" Us is getting a movie Iron Man set with Iron Man Mark VI, two drones, and Nick Fury for about $26.99. While not dirt cheap, the figures don't seem like a rotten deal for the asking price. They are 3 3/4-inch.

LEGO Logan's Run Will Astound You

Revealed: Knock-Off Cobra HISS Tank, Cobra Interceptor Prototype
|
The Chap Mei Toys Forum has a gallery of a KO Cobra HISS as well as its variant, if you can believe such a thing exists. It ain't great but we'd love to see what people might do with it as custom dioramas and damaged tanks go.
Also interesting (and obscenely expensive) is this one-of-a-kind prototype of the Cobra Interceptor vehicle from over 15 years ago.

|
It was in stock yesterday morning, but the regular version of Sgt. Slaughter has re-sold out and now you can't have one. Such is life. At least this should help bring down the price on eBay a little, but probably not for the Triple T variant.
Something else you'll never get is this Pursuit of Cobra Snake Eyes, reviewed on HISSTank.com. It's an unproduced but seemingly final piece, and parts of it were incorporated on several other recently released action figures. Well worth a look, Joe historians.

Nintendo Wii gets Sonic Screwdriver Controller, Japan gets Mario All-Stars
|
UK Wii fans and Whovians are in for a double treat-- the Nintendo Wii is getting a Wii remote Sonic Screwdriver and a matching Nintendo DS stylus, with games to match. And in the USA? You ain't getting squat. Except for the complete Star Wars line, all the good Transformers that aren't Japan-market only, and much cheaper fuel for your cars. So when you look at it that way, everything is going to be just fine.
Meanwhile in Japan, according to Kotaku, those lucky devils will get Super Mario All-Stars reissued. Hopefully it will come to the USA, as that formerly Super NES-exclusive collection of 8-bit remakes for the 16-bit Super NES is quite an excellent piece of old gaming.

G.I. Joe Cartoon Lands Lee Majors
|
According to a Hasbro announcement which has all been distilled into the G.I. Joe Renegades Wikipedia page, Lee Majors has been cast as General Abernathy in the new HUB network cartoon G.I. Joe: Renegades. (Also exciting: Michael Bell will be appearing as Duke's dad. Michael Bell was Duke in the original show.)
Now, this is all well and good, but we really hope it means we get some more stunt-casting figures for future con exclusives. We've had Sgt. Slaughter and Rowdy Roddy Piper recently... the $6 Million Man would make an excellent addition to team Joe. As would the Sasquatch.

Favorite Punchline To See Retail Release

Transformers Power Core Combiners Huffer Variation
|
There aren't many truly significant and obvious variations in the Transformers line lately, but it seems Power Core Combiners Huffer got a totally new hood. Pictured (via TheAllspark) is the "new" version, where the hood more or less matches the rest of the truck. The first release has a hood that's dark orange, and doesn't remotely match, leading many fans to believe that it was the intended deco. Perhaps not. You can identify which version you have by looking in the package, just look in the spot beneath the back of Huffer's head which you should be able to make out in any well-lit retail outlet.

This week's WiiWare offering is Adventure on Lost Island Hidden Object Game" for $5/500 points, which does not sound particularly thrilling.
The Virtual Console has nothing, but because of news from Japan there's promise something good might be coming out later.
Today's real news is that news outlets are reporting what the 25th Anniversary Super Mario Bros. game for Wii is. You can even pre-order it.
|
Today we look at the Clone Trooper with Jet Pack figure that just came out, and it's orange. We like it. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!
Hasbro also answered two of our questions about Star Wars as part of their own Q&A program. Here are the results:
Question 1: The really awesome Mandalorian Commando mold with the Battle Pack and recently released Speeder Bike has a helmet modeled after the Nelvana "Fett" helmet design. We know it's unlikely, but would you ever consider doing a Mandalorian repaint "inspired" by the original Animated Boba Fett look? You can call him Steve Vizsla for all we care, it would just be wonderful to see the Mandalorian mold used for more colors than grey and blue.
Answer 1: Cool idea, but there are no plans to do any Clone Wars figures inspired by the Nelvana series. Who knows what the future holds for this interesting slice of the Clone Wars, though.
Question 2: Our last new Carbonite toy was in 2006, and it looks like the redesigned Slave I has a slot which will fit that specific, narrower block. We love the compatibility, but the 2006 edition of the Han Solo Carbonite block is in mid-thaw-- can we expect an all-grey, fully-frozen Hansicle in the coming year or two? We love the new Wal-Mart Jabba the Hutt, but he seems so unhappy without his favorite decoration.
Answer 2: We don't have a new Han in the works, but it probably is just a matter of time before we get to him. And we agree that a fully frozen Han is just what that compartment needs.

Masters of the Universe Gygor, Carnivous Still Not Available

We are surprised and delighted (for you) to see that Mattycollector.com still has General Carnivus and Gygor in stock, probably in part due to that nobody who grew up with the line (and grew out of it) has a clue who these guys are. We are less surprised that Mattycollector.com still has Egon Spengler available, as the figure is similar to the 2009 release except he has stacked library books and a PKE meter. Still, he's really cool.

|
Today we look at the Clone Trooper (Bantha Squad) figure from a recent battle pack. It's nice. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Japan Definitely Getting Radiant Silvergun
|
Tokyo Game Show is on and Treasure confirmed (finally!) that Radiant Silvergun is coming to Microsoft's console. This is a big deal-- the Saturn port is (was) quite expensive. Cross your fingers for a US release-- the game is largely in English as far as menus go.

Glyos New Figures For Sale, Nice
|
Love new toys? Onell Designs' new Glyos figures include bonus heads and, for the asking price of about $8, are pretty swell. We saw giant rig suits earlier but they seem to be gone already, but hey, check these out before they go away.

Meteorbs Not Outright Denied
|
While not exactly widely beloved or remembered, we were crazy about the Meteorbs in the original Masters of the Universe line. Now it seems Mattel is giving them some thought in their new Q&A. That's pretty cool, we think.
If the toy looks familiar, there are countless knockoffs and rereleases from other toy companies. Apparently these come from Bandai, and there were a lot of other toys not brought over to the USA. We found this swell gallery of carded Meteorbs, which is nice to see again.

Target Gets 2 Unannounced LEGO Polybags
|
Target's seasonal section frequently has a number of exclusive, or at least scarce, products. This weekend we spotted two new LEGO sets for $2.99 each in their Halloween bins, near the aisles of candy and craptacular costumes. One is 30042 Atlantis Mini Sub and the other is 30042 World Racers Buggy, each of which have a nice chunk of bricks and, in all honesty, are a way better value than the blind-packaged Minifigures line. Although these have significantly fewer monsters in them, sadly. Good hunting!

Playmobil: Two New US Exclusive Sets, B2G1 sale
|
Costco comes through once more with a pair of exclusive Playmobil gift sets which include a mix of parts from previously released sets, it seems. One is a 5922 Safari Set with a "Jeep", giraffe, elephant, lions, zebras, vulture, turtle, and a couple of figures with accessories.
The other is a 5879 Fire Set with a fire truck, helicopter, burning building, and a selection of figures. Each of these boxed sets was marked $44.99 in the store, but the web site for Costco has them at $49.99.
We should note, we're not convinced these are particularly good prices. The fire set may be about right, but the Safari sets may be cheaper at Toys "R" Us, particularly because you get more stuff in the smaller sets and because they're Buy 2 Get 1 Free this week. Good hunting!

UNCONFIRMED: DC Universe Series 17 = Blackest Night?
|
Via Action Figure Pics and elsewhere we are seeing rumors of the next DC Universe announcement-- wave 17 may be Mattel's big foray into "Blackest Night" characters. Given that 2011 will be a big year for Green Lantern, this makes sense. Flash, Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, Hal Jordan, and others are listed and this really does sound like a swell batch of figures, if true.

LEGO Minifigures 3 Revealed, Douchebag Included
|
Our pals at the Raving Toy Maniac have shots of LEGO Minifigures 3 which is, to say the least, quite exciting.
16 new figures were revealed, including a Samurai, a Sumo, a hula girl, a douchebag (pictured), a space pirate, an alien, a baseball player, and an ape. How much more awesome could this be? There's a grizzled old fisherman. Yes that's right-- just that much more awesome.

Future Transformers Generations Revealed (US and Japan)
|
The future is coming, and you're going to spend the rest of your life there. TFW2005 says the future (in Japan) will include Transformers United which will include a bunch of American Generations molds and a few which remain a mystery. War for Cybertron Cliffjumper is confirmed, but so are an additional Bumblebee and Optimus Prime which aren't from the game. What are they? We don't know.
Far more relevant and exciting are this leaked list from Wal-Mart at The Allspark. Why? Wreck-Gar. Need more? Another Optimus, Fallback, and of course confirmation of Jazz and Tracks. Great news!

Figure of the Day has updated once again! The daily feature on figures you might have but might not-- either way, here's what you've been missing! Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

More Transformers Generations Confirmations
|
Yesterday the Transformers Club confirmed Wreck-Gar, but now the magazine is hitting mailboxes. While we don't have ours yet-- why are we paying for this?-- we read online that a number of items were confirmed in the new issue. Also, there's a number of new Transformers United pictures at TFW2005, including remakes from "Classics" and some others. Like Cliffjumper (pictured) from War for Cybertron, arguably the high point of the set.
But the big news today? Go here for word on 2011 Generations, including an all-new G2 Laser Optimus Prime remake, and word on what you can expect from the US release of Masterpiece Rodimus. Hint: no trailers. Watch those mailboxes, kids, we can't wait to start begging for the Laser Ultra Magnus repaint!
Even bigger-- a huge gallery of leaked photos started appearing, if you know where to look. (Laser Prime? Impressive.) You can also see this gallery with Windcharger, Thunderwing, Skullgrin, Mindset, Jazz, Tracks, and a bunch of new Power Core Combiners toys-- including some new molds. If you aren't convinced that Hasbro and Mattel are giving us a second golden age of action figures, then you are ALL FOOLS.

Zodac, Roboto Return in October
|
The Matty Collector October Page has updated! Guess what you're getting? Oh, let us just tell you: Roboto and a reissue of Zodac, also known as "the white one." Roboto looks pretty damn swell and Masters of the Universe Classics seems to be continuing to do awesome work. We can't wait for this one, but we love robots and bad 1980s song references, so we're easy.

Funko Reveals New DC Pop Heroes
|
Our sponsor/employer posted new images of Funko's new "Pop Heroes" line of 3 3/4-inch vinyl figures. The first ones were sold at Comic-Con this past July and there are many others in the works-- fantastic stuff, really, and we'd talk about it if we weren't told not to. For eight bucks a whack, these nifty figures are like Mighty Muggs but with a better sculpt and more of a Sanrio influence.

Review: Space Invaders Infinity Gene
|
Starting life as an iPhone game, Space Invaders Infinity Gene got a major high-def upgrade and, more importantly, the ability to be played with a controller when it was ported to Xbox Live Arcade. So now it's actually playable and fun, two important features needed in any bullet hell shooter. While this takes heavy inspiration from Space Invaders and early video games-- if you've played a Vectrex you should feel warm and fuzzy here-- it seems to have more in common with Raiden or Salamander than its namesake. It's also a heck of a lot of fun. [ READ THE FULL REVIEW ]

Ross Getting Marvel Mighty Muggs
|
Some (but not all) Ross stores are getting a lot of new toys in, including Marvel Mighty Muggs. We've only seen a few, and they're about $4.99. For all we know this is really old stock, but if you want a Spider-Man for a piece of paper with Lincoln's face on it, this is a pretty good deal.

He-Man, Skeletor To Get Reissues Soon
|
proving that (contrary to popular belief) Mattel isn't stupid or evil, the team on MOTUC confirms He-Man and Skeletor will see reissues once more, as that is a key strategy in getting newer fans on board. (Seriously, who wants Man-E-Faces but not Skeletor? Crazy people, that's who.) The company has been pretty good about reissuing figures eventually, which is nice to see a company reward patience and stick it to the secondary market all at once.
Of course, if you need one today, check Toys "R" Us as some (many) of our local stores have DC Universe vs. Masters of the Universe 2-packs which feature these figures with new paint jobs for $29.99 a whack.

UNCONFIRMED: Generations to get Kup Finally; Costco Exclusive Bumblebee
|
The infamous (and generally correct) S250 posted an interesting and not-so-cryptic message to his Twitter feed over the weekend. He wrote, and we quote: "rumor said green car being developed in generation series...Kup,is that you?"
Hasbro mentioned something about a Kup in development at Botcon-- or so we heard second-hand-- so this could be some really exciting news. The real question is, what will his vehicle look like? Will it be a goofy and awesome futuristic truck, or just some everyday car with Kup's head? Or nothing at all? We can't wait to find out!
Also, this Ultimate Bumblebee is said to be an exclusive to Costco-- it includes two "Legends"-class toys and has a spiffy metallic gold paint job. Quite nice! Expect to see it-- most likely-- before November. But that's a hunch.

Transformers Prime Bulkhead, New Club Toys

At the TFWiki (and other places, but read the TFWiki) you can see shots and information on the new Bulkhead design which will debut on the new HUB Transformers: Prime show. He turns into a truck, but still looks like the Bulkhead that everyone but commies loves. You aren't a commie, are you? Read the article.
Also worth noting: The Collector Club put up a future exclusive teaser page. All you see here are shadowy previews of TransTech Cheetor, G2 Ramjet, and (presumably) Timelines Side Burn, effectively confirming toys you already knew were coming. But what does this page mean? It means progress.
