Spanning from the original Power of the Force series of 1995 to the latest of The Legacy Collection, it's almost like a history lesson!

Today we look at the Boba Fett figure from the cartoon, which means he doesn't have his helmet or all of his armor just yet. He's also short. Go to Figure of the Day for the next update, with the latest installment in our ongoing series!

Transformers Botcon 2007 Class Overkill/Grimlock Kit Auction

TransformersOverkillIn 2007, Botcon had a custom class in which fans could build and paint Overkill based on the Grimlock mold. Later, an actual Overkill would get released but this unbuilt kit on eBay is arguably priceless as it was made in a tiny, tiny quantity. This may be the only unbuilt kit you see before you die at the hands of your own children-- it's coming, don't deny it-- so check it out. Starting bid? $4,000.

Q&A Update, New Transformers RTS G2 Laser Prime Gallery

TransformersPrimeOnce again KOToys.com has a new gallery of Laser Optimus Prime which is supposedly due in late 2010 but will probably be an early 2011 release. It's better than the previous gallery, although it's up to you if the figure is good or not. What do you think?

At TFW2005, a possible remold of the upcoming Lugnut toy was revealed-- and this time it's not obvious who the head is supposed to be.

ACToys.net has a gallery of the Rodimus Prime upgrade set, which we would describe as "chunky" rather than smooth. As with other upgrade kits, this is an unlicensed item which is while we'll be giggling when people make knock-offs of it in the future.

But wait, there's more! Hasbro & Hunter PR answered some questions but there's not much meat on those bones-- click through to read about 2011 exclusives and the "legends" assortment, again!

Neat!

MusicImaginary FriendsFreezepop's CDs have been difficult to find in stores, and the band is self-releasing its new one. Imaginary Friends was released late Monday night and it includes a bonus EP if you download it directly-- or it did-- or it might.

Of note is a special edition 2-disc release which band member Sean T. Drinkwater "tweeted" at us and said the following: "The bonus disc is an entire other album called Secret Companion." We're excited-- the LE release has no specific release date, but if you buy it they let you download the standard album immediately. Hey, they're a good band, give them some money. Do it to spite the major labels.

New Transformers Stuff: Lost Movie Script, New Japanese Toys

TransformersStrafeA new issue of HyperHobby hit, and of course everybody scanned its Japanese Transformers galleries and put them up for you to examine. Not too much in the way of genuinely new stuff, but you'll notice what seem to be more final Japanese paint jobs on these guys.

Also interesting: superfan/author Jim Sorenson won an early draft of the 1980s Transformers: The Movie script and posted it for download. Wow. Neat! It's even more violent than the real thing! It has ani-bots and Windcharger's dismembered body raining down on top of Blaster.

Rounding out today's update is Xovergen's update of another unlicensed toy being released based on "Rolling Thunder Optimus Prime." Not only will it comes in traditional Prime colors, but a green variant is on deck as well. Before you mess yourself over it, we suggest picking up the currently available "Cybertronian Optimus Prime" toy from the Transformers Generations line, as it's cheap, complicated, and adherent to the toy safety standards of the USA.

LEGO 2011 Ninjago Demo Promo Set

LEGOLEGOAt a Toys "R" Us on Saturday, December 11, we noticed a table demoing the new Ninjago theme figures due next year. These are basically spinning tops, combining the 1998-era Ninja figures with a Beyblade-like game. If you asked, a free set was being distributed-- an unnumbered, polybagged kit which is just a sword and a display stand. It also came with a pretty neat ninja sticker, as seen below the bag. As freebies go, we aren't complaining.

Packaging Watch: Paper Rattan vs. Wire Twist Ties at Hasbro

ToysDon't The TwistHasbro released a press release this week about its great decision to incorporate more recycled materials, and The Raving Toy Maniac added some illustrations showcasing how this will benefit the collector. Transformers News Updates, US and Japan

TransformersDark of the BeeThe biggest news of the day (if not year) is probably this auction with what claims to be a Dark of the Moon Bumblebee toy. Note the ridiculous gun-- this has got to be real. A link got out of a movie truck toy as well, but it seems to have been removed.

TFClub continues its line of Transformers-compatible and IP-surfing with new faux Constructicons more or less based on Hook and Scavenger. They look larger than the originals, and odds are they're going to cost you a pretty penny.

New Heads Are Better than OneThe great and powerful author of Shortpacked has located the variant heads for Kup and Scourge and posted them on a thread at The Allspark. Neither one seems obviously any specific character.

Variation hunters, take note: a corrected version of Generations Dirge is hitting, which we saw at Target today. The first release is missing a white piece of detail in the Decepticon crests on the toy, and they have now been added back. Neither is "more rare" just yet-- odds are the error one will be tougher to get, were we to guess.

An upgrade kit for Universe Darkwind is coming, specifically sporting a new head. See more here, with pictures.

Japanese Super Mario Crystal Maze Toy/Game

NintendoSuper Crystal Maze! This Super Mario Bros. Crystal Maze from Japanese manufacturer Epoch was too neat not to show you! The people selling it claim it's like Super Monkey Ball, sort of. It just looks clunky, and colorful-- plus that thing on the end looks like a joystick. We could write up a description, but we're going to take a cue from the great Lobaachevksy and plagiarize*.

" Anyone who's played Super Monkey Ball will take to Crystal Maze like a fish to water. By using the red joystick/lever located at the bottom of the game, players tilt the play board to move three metal marbles (one at a time) from the START area at the bottom of the board to the GOAL located at the upper left corner of the board. It's pretty challenging due to the convoluted and tight-spaced maze one has to maneuver through."

* - "Only be sure always to call it please 'research'."

Secret of Mana Now On iPhone

Video GamesSecret of ManaOur pals at Square-Enix wrote in to remind us that their 16bit-era masterpiece Secret of Mana is now on the iPhone/iPad for $8.99. They say:

"In the iPhone/iPod touch version of SECRET of MANA, the original creators have succeeded in realizing a simple control scheme that utilizes the touch screen, making it possible for users to play the action-packed "Motion Battle" smoothly. SECRET of MANA established the world and the marvelous tales of the MANA series. Additionally, users will be able to intuitively control the "Ring Command" menu system, which was first introduced in SECRET of MANA and has since appeared frequently in the series."

We're not sure how the controls will work without buttons, nor are we sure we're crazy about there not being multiplayer. But hey, it's a start until it gets a PSN/XBLA port, right?

Transformers Wreck-Gar on Wreck-Gar Action

TransformersDare to be StupidA poster at HK-TF got some Wreck-Gars and shows how one can ride the other, cementing Junkions as a possible army-builder in the future. Right now there are three versions of the mold coming-- Japan-exclusive Scrapheap, US Reveal the Shield Wreck-Gar, and Japan United Wreck-Gar. Each one looks pretty different, too.

The US Wreck-Gar, as seen in the pictures, should be showing up here in the next month or so. If it doesn't show up sooner as part of a post-holiday restocking. He ships with Perceptor, Bumblebee, and G2 Laser Optimus Prime.

Some dude in Japan has a blog with a lot of great toy galleries, including comparisons of the new Japan line Transformers United with their USA equivalents. Check out Drift, which has more paint operations and is brighter, G1 Optimus Prime, which has brighter colors, is metallic, and sports more yellow, Cybertronian Optimus Prime, which has metallic paint, pinker pinks, and different shoulder logos, G1 Megatron, which just seems all around better, and... well, that's it for now.

Also notable, more pictures of the big unlicensed Devastator-like toy coming out of Asia including some early looks at the combined mode head. The same thread at ACToys.net shows new "Targetroids" figures of Optimus, Hot Rod, Megatron, and Starscream which are effectively fancy Targetmasters.

That's a fine question. So read on, leave a comment, read the Star Wars one too, and come back tomorrow for more!

Transformers News Updates, DOTM and Japan

TransformersDark of the MoonThe biggest news of the day is this German posting with a good look at a lot of packaging for the new movie and some new toys. Note smaller Human Alliance toys, giant weapons on most toys, and what seem to be vehicles scaled to Legends-class figures, too.

More Japan TakaraTomy United vs. US comparisons went up. Check out Soundwave, colored more like War for Cybertron, Straxus, which doesn't look as good as Darkmount, Cybertronian Bumblebee in metallic yellow, a similarly colored G1 Bumblebee, and WFC Cliffjumper. On the whole, your cheaper Hasbro items will probably be fine.

An early look at United Jazz versus RTS Jazz shows a slightly different color of plastic-- the US one isn't that yellow-- in addition to some other painted details like lights and the grille. We'd suggest you stick with the US release, but we're all about our review-fodder-dollar going as far as possible these days.

For fans of unique toys and intellectual property theft (or not, we aren't lawyers), check out KOToys.com for a gallery of a knock-off purple Decepticon Seeker jet. Great idea, here's hoping Hasbro or the collector club already have one on deck. The last time this character get a toy release were some convention-exclusive PVC figures.

Yet More Transformers Galleries

TransformersLugnutOver at HK-TF is a swell gallery of the US release of Lugnut due pretty much any day now. The beefy stooge of Megatron looks REALLY good. Check it out.

For you Japanese-inclined fans, here's a gallery of Haywire and Fracas, two limited exclusive gift-with-purchase figures which already cost too damn much. We really want Fracas... or both. But especially Fracas.

In the realm of unlicensed and compatible, here's Perfect Effect's fake Reflector, a partial gallery of the center piece of the triple robot camera pack. Worth seeing, even though it's going to be super small.

A company called Captured Prey is doing a pair of guns modeled after Megatron and Browning called Mega Gun and Brown King. It's another low-run unlicensed Targetmaster-alike.

New Game for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade, New Castlevania DLC Coming

Xbox Live ArcadeRaskullsXbox 360 owners, it's time to look into Raskulls, a $10/800 points platformer with a cute little skeleton dude.

Also new for $10, Microbots, a (we think) shooter where you're inside a body and fighting disease. The description was vague, so we're downloading it because it sounds a little bit like Life Force.

DLC fans, today you can download more stuff for Magic: The Gathering and it'll cost you $5/400 points.

According to dirt unearthed by Joystiq, the pretty great (if you've got buddies online) Castlevania: Harmony of Despair will be getting more DLC, specifically a level based on Symphony of the Night. Niiiice.
