Mattel Reveals Comic-Con Slate

Masters of the UniverseMarlena with Cringer Last Friday, Mattel revealed its Comic-Con Exclusive Toy Menu, which is-- as always-- diverse and impressive. A Masters of the Universe Classics Queen Marlena with Cringer allows for Marlena to change outfits between queen and astronaut. Swell! The Blazing Sword Voltron is Mattel's first-ever Voltron toy, clocking in at about the same size as most other Mattel collector's figures. DC Universe fans get Swamp Thing finally, which is awesome.

VoltronA Young Justice Superboy in Cloning Chamber is happening... I guess. For Hot Wheels there is an unidentified Back to the Future Vehicle for $35 and they won't tell you what it is.

There are other cars, dolls, and figures which you can all check out here, including the ridiculous yet somehow sensible She-Ra Polly Pocket boxed set.

In short: Cringer has 2 points of articulation, and a full adult one may come later. Marlena's body has a lot of parts which will be reused for the new She-Ra.

New Commander Powerglide Actually Kinda Small

TransformersPowerglideNow that the toys from Dark of the Moon are leaking about two weeks early, sites like TFW2005 have images if Cyberverse Commander Powerglide showing off the size of the "Commander" class toy.

It's going to be about $10-- the larger of the two Cyberverse scales-- and is about the size of existing Universe Legends toys in vehicle. Disappointing. Check out the robot mode and more at TFW2005.

She has pom poms. The LEGO Minifigures Series 1 Cheerleader was, as far as can be told, one of the shorter-run figures in last year's premiere series of LEGO Minifigures. A shame, as swapping out the face and hair to make an entire cheer squad would be easy. So read on, read our Star Wars one too, and come back soon for more!

Mel Birnkrant, Onell Designs Expand Outer Space Men Concepts

Outer Space MenOhpromatemFather of the Outer Space Men Mel Birnkrant added 8 swell original concepts based on the currently known action figures to his page. Each represents another being from the species we've seen, such as a man from Neptune with more tentacles or the swell Ohpromatem (pictured) who is an evil spin on Metamorpho. I'm particularly jazzed by these seemingly old-school spins on the line, so I suggest you check them out when you get a moment.

OhpromatemAlso exciting, toy design impressario Matt Doughty at Onell Design revealed even more figure add-on and repaint possibilities including a Cthuloid-inspired creature (pictured) and numerous other helmet and head variations. These are all pretty great, so naturally you'll want to check them out too.

Official LEGO Series 5 Minifigure Shots, New Pet Shop, plus Alien Conquest Hitting

LEGOLEGO 8805 Series 5 Minifigures Late last week, a Flickr user posted the LEGO Series 5 Minifigure pictures, giving us our first high-res glimpse of these 16 figures. Rumor has it this may be the final series in the line, but that seems hard to believe.

LEGO 10218 Pet ShopAlso new on Flickr is an exclusive LEGO 10218 Pet Shop coming soon. Unique animals and lots of cages and aquariums await you... for a ton of cash, since the set has over 2,000 pieces.

LEGO Alien ConquestBut wait, there's more! The entire LEGO Alien Conquest line is hitting Toys "R" Us stores in the USA right now. They look really cool, and if you don't believe me you can check out the Toy Fair coverage. And if you still don't believe me, well, you're just not the kind of person suited to be reading this web site.

The set is similar to previous non-licensed space LEGO lines in that most sets have both "good guys" (human alien agents or victims) and "bad guys" (the aliens). The sets have cool features, such as the ability to kidnap farmers. Don't tell me you haven't fantasized about payback for governent-sponsored farm subsidies. Thanks, aliens! There are even brain-suckers and reporters.

Pursuit of Cobra Wave 6 Hitting Now

G.I. JoeG.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra Action Figures Wave 6 Set Last weekend, I spotted the remainders of a G.I. Joe Pursuit of Cobra Wave 6 (not 5) case at a Phoenix area Wal-Mart. Which should make you feel great if you, like me, have yet to see all of wave 4 on the pegs still.

For the curious, the three unsold figures were Snake Eyes, Crazy Legs, and the new Croc Master.

--AP

Transformers Dark of the Moon, More Generations Also Hitting Now

TransformersTransformers DOTM Toys The same Wal-Mart also had numerous early samples of Transformers Dark of the Moon toys on shelves for the buying. I don't mean like one or two figures either-- easily more than 100 items were there for the buying, and deluxes were a surprisingly cheap $9.88 a pop.

Numerous Deluxe and Voyager toys were out, as well as a smattering of smaller toys.

What's more, another Wal-Mart here in Phoenix got in some new Generations product. I saw (and purchased) a Wheeljack and Thundercracker, and saw additional Warpaths.

For those keeping track, Wal-Mart and Target are seemingly discontinuing most if not all of the "Gold Box" product as well as Power Core Combiners. Clearances may be available in your area, with the final product of these waves either to be dumped at closeout, online only, or eventually showing up at Toys "R" Us. Non-deluxe Reveal the Shield product in the USA is largely impossible to find at major brick-and-mortar stores as the big boys seemingly either did not order it or were not shipped it. The same can be said for the 5-pack Power Core Combiners toy Spastic (Steamhammer is quite common and Grimstone is just popular) and numerous Scout/Commander-class toys.

--AP

Some Captain America Hitting Now, Too

MarvelCaptain America Guess what? The same Wal-Mart also had about three items from the new Hasbro Captain America Movie Line too. The flying shield, roleplay mask, and a large-scale action figure were out there for the buying.

MusicSuper-Sonic Toothbrush Helmet Demo Last week, Chunklet posted the Original Demo for Man or Astro-Man?'s Supersonic Toothbrush Helmet, which is (as far as can be told) the very first recorded release from the band and supremely rare. Here's your chance to hear it for free! They also posted liner notes for an as-of-yet unreleased 10-inch reissue of Your Weight on the Moon.

Also interesting is that Astro Ad-Nauseum posted Cliff Notes on Man or Astroman? which you may as well check out. Neat stuff.

Transformers MP10 Gallery: Prime, Again

TransformersPrime ReductionIs smaller better? Full Metal Hero scored some shots of MP-10 Masterpiece Convoy with Spike Witwicky and a trailer, and a much higher price tag.

This figure is more in scale with other robots which followed the original Optimus Prime, but the cost is just as high. The description indicates it may at least partially transform automatically, which sounds quite impressive. Be sure to take a look even if you think you don't care. It's interesting.

New Toys "R" Us Classics Legends Set Coming

TransformersMegaverse EvolutionNow that the toys from Dark of the Moon are leaking, it makes sense that Toys "R" Us Hong Kong announced DOTM Deluxe Exclusives and a Cyberverse Megaverse Evolution 4-Pack with "scanning" movie toys as well as "classic" figures of Bumblebee and Starscream. Oddly, Starscream doesn't make use of either "G1"-esque mold, but rather the Cybertron jet.

I don't believe any of these were explicitly confirmed for a US release but it's a safe bet.

Also, the Shout Factory Transformers Headmasters Box has been delayed to allow for a superior video master. Hey, at least it's for a great reason!

For the uninitiated, street dates are imposed by some cabal of the toy company and movie studio to prevent businesses from selling product they have in stock to you, the paying customer. I saw a complete reset of Cap at Target yesterday, and boy do they look nice.

Transformers Dark of the Moon Street Date Today

TransformersTransformers DOTM Toys See previous complaint, but this time it's abot Transformers Dark of the Moon toys which you've likely seen on shelves for about the past week now.

Fake Glyph Also interesting is this iGear BEE03 Toy which is basically Glyph, the third deco variant of the mold. Also interesting are the red and blue ones, if you haven't seen them. They're effectively G1-inspired Legends toys at a much higher price, and are not licensed or approved by the people who hold any of the necessary copyrights or trademarks.

Matty Sale Today, Too

Matty Matty also has its monthly offering of new toys, including Masters of the Universe Catra as well as reissues of She-Ra, Stratos, and Whiplash.

Other offerings include Green Lantern Classics series 2, a Mego-inspired Guy Gardner, and a Movie Masters Green Man. Not the Green Man you may want to see, though.

He-Man fans may want to read this article which focuses on the many ins and outs of the line, including upcoming head variants. Nothing specific, just that we'll get some of them.

Skystriker to be renamed Starfighter in Canada, Elsewhere?

G.I. JoeSkyfighter? Last week, JoeCanuck.com posted the Skystriker jet will be renamed Skyfighter for Canada, which could mean international releases (if there are any) may have the new name as well. Sometimes this is moot, though, as items don't necessarily get wide distribution outside the USA.

The item is guesstimated for a Summer release, pending resets. This means officially it'll probably be on-shelf around August but if last year is any indication, you might want to keep your eyes open starting in June.

Transformers Tomahawk Remold Revealed as Vortex

TransformersDark of the Moon VortexIt's not explicitly known to be a Japan exclusive yet, but that's the word going around. Full Metal Hero posted shots of Vortex which includes the alternate Tomahawk head plus remolding to work with MechTech weapons-- of which he has one. It looks pretty swell, doesn't it?

New DOTM Human Alliance Basics, More

Transformers The Snakas blog has Transformers Dark of the Moon Human Alliance Basics previously unseen including a swell yellow racecar and a redeco of the dune buggy from wave 1. Release dates are unknown, but this appears to be official Hasbro photography. Odds are these will be announced in some official capacity in the next month.

Also new, the Wal-Mart exclusive Dark of the Moon toys are launching. This includes a space-deco Optimus Prime with Comettor for about $17.77 (a spectacular deal), and a 3-pack of Legends from 2009 repainted-- specifically, Bumblebee in Goldbuggy colors, Soundwave in G1 Soundwave colors, and a Rodimus repaint you simply must see to believe. This set is about $9.97... and is also worth it. I also spotted new Deluxe toys, including the Laserbeak wave. Of note, the Wal-Mart exclusives were not on the regular aisle with the toys, so do some walking around to find the right endcap(s) if you're after these.

The Toys R Us exclusive Evolution Megaverse pack (the Legends 4-pack with multiple versions of Starscream and Bumblebee) is coming to the USA for $14.99 a pop-- shelf tags have shown up at the store, and some have reportedly found the set. (I have not. But it's out there.) It's notable for including the hard-to-find Universe 2.0 Bumblebee, which is a Legends-sized G1 Minibot version of the character. From what I can gather, "Megaverse" was a working name for "Cyberverse."

Finally, Toys R Us listed Transformers Kre-O, the LEGO-like sets from Hasbro-- or at least the first wave. Notable: no bad guys are listed and everybody has a G1 head.

Carded SDCC G.I. Joe Zarana Revealed, Cycle Armor Hits Asia

G.I. JoeZarana While we've seen the cards, and the figures, ACToys.net has the first carded Zarana pictures, which reveals that the popular clear plastic case is making a return. How fortunate! She comes in her classic pink outfit as well as a new "Cold Slither" outfit, "Cold Slither" being an in-universe music group from the various Sunbow cartoons (of which G.I. Joe was one.)

Even more surprising (and exciting) is news that the Cycle Armor with Ashiko is hitting Asia. HISSTank.com has the pictures and news. This previously unreleased vehicle in the Pursuit of Cobra line hasn't been solicited for US release, so it's unknown when or if we'll see it. Were I a betting man, I'd put some cash down on Ross stores getting this.

Transformers Cyberverse TRU Set Notes, Kmart Daredevil Squad Released

TransformersPrime ColorsKmart's exclusive boxed Autobot Daredevil Squad has been released, which is a big box of repaints, plus a patch. Revenge of the Fallen Bumblebee gets a new grey deco, and it comes with a Human Alliance Backfire recolor. All together, it's a nice piece for $17.99 and comes in a Human Alliance-style box.

Also, I found the Toys R Us exclusive Cyberverse set, with four figures inside. Interestingly, the molds and deco don't quite match the photos on the box, and "G1 Bumblebee" is actually done up in War for Cybertron-inspired colors. Cybertron Starscream is not the same one sold in the UK as a WFC incentive, and the bonus weapons are actually modified guns from the Japanese Robot Masters line. For $14.99, it's quite the interesting little collection.

...for those wanting specifics, one weapon is a black redeco of the chrome gun originally sold with R-Blade, while the other is a black version of the two-piece gun sold with Wing Stun, Machine Wars Thundercracker, and other descendants of that mold. The DOTM Starscream and Bumblebee figures have retooled hands, but Bumblebee's painted fist results in a tight fit while Starscream's design is not conducive to holding large weapons. All in all, it's a worthwhile set for $14.99.

New XBLA Radiant Silvergun Details Emerge

Xbox Live ArcadeRadiant SilvergunThe Xbox 360 remake of Radiant Silvergun has been priced at $15. It'll sport both Saturn and arcade modes, and you can read more about it at that link. I'm not sure I saw an explicit confirmation of a US release though.

For those unfamiliar with the title, it's an extremely expensive and somewhat rare Japanese import shooter from the late 1990s. It's loads of fun, fanned by the flames of nostalgia, rarity, and the legends of nobody ever actually playing it. (I've got a copy and it's pretty great, but I don't know if it's worth $150.)

This article has other details, which includes mention of an SDCC-exclusive Ultimate Prime packaged in vehicle rather than robot mode. If you're into variants-- or possibly smaller packaging-- this might be the way to go.

X-Men meets Kraftwerk T-Shirt

MarvelX-WerksAs far as I can tell, this nifty red X-Men Werk T-Shirt is fully licensed. Which is good, because it uses Marvel's logos and character names. The joke, if you didn't get it, is they stuck X-Men characters in a design reminiscent of Kraftwerk's "The Man Machine" album.

Carded G.I. Joe Python Patrol Croc Master Revealed

G.I. JoeCroc Master While we've heard the buzz, the G.I. Joe Collector's Club has the first carded Python Patrol redeco Croc Master pictures, which reveals a red gator and some stripey pants.

The site goes on to say that this and the Blowtorch variant will be shown in an upcoming issue of the collector's club magazine. Here's hoping these aren't super-rare variants due to the line shipping out slowly.

X-Men First Class Comic Comic Packs Hitting Toys "R" Us

Marvel Toys "R" Us stores are receiving new potentially exclusive X-Men First Class Comic Packs with Wolverine vs. Sabretooth and Jean Grey with Cyclops right now. There are no "exclusive" markings on the packaging, but the assortment number (ASST. on the front of the card) is different from the non-exclusive comic packs, which means that it's a new assortment and new assortments of the same kind of product usually mean either an exclusive assortment, or they're discontinuing the old assortment. Since no online retailers seem to have been solicited these figures by Hasbro, I'm assuming they're exclusive.

Each set is about fifteen bucks. Due to lead times and the late production schedule of the movie, there will be no movie-specific figures released along with the film. There will be Minimates, though.

Possible New (or Canceled) Unicron, Prima Revealed in Transformers Vault Book; More

TransformersUni means One and Cron means Cron Hitting stores worldwide this week is the new book entitled The Transformers Vault which is packed with new images of stuff. There are a mix of familiar and previously unseen images, like what appears to be a new Unicron repaint, in the book. It seems to think it has or is coming out, but its non-announcement to date combined with the lead time for publishing a book could mean that if you don't see it as part of the BotCon announcements in the next few days, it isn't coming out.

TheAllSpark.com and other boards have threads discussing new finds in the book, so do check them out and also do check out the book if you still have a book store in your town.

Also important, Hasbro is starting to dump gold box toys meaning stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's need to be added to your stops. Over the weekend I saw two Ross stores, each with a single Sea Spray at $9.99 each-- this is the first of the Voyagers showing up at these extreme discounters, and it may mean things are looking up for the appearance of Lugnut, Solar Storm Grappel, Strafe, or Deep Dive. I also saw more of Human Alliance Bumblebee and Shadow Blade Sideswipe at Marshall's stores, $16.99 each. Good hunting!

Transformers Cyberverse Deluxe Optimus Prime, Megatron Hitting

TransformersTransformers Cyberverse Action Sets Wave 2 Set I found the swell new Transformers Cyberverse Action Sets Optimus Prime and Megatron at a Phoenix-area Wal-Mart yesterday. Each set includes repaint of Optimus Prime or Megatron from the commander class (Optimus is more vibrant and seems to lack a few paint apps while adding painted eyes, Megatron has a green splort on his face) as well as some added battle gear. I didn't pick these up yet but the weapon things look pretty slick.

Odds are you'll be drowning in these in about a week and change.

Chunklet Posts Two Entire Knodel EPs for Free

MusicKnodel Dance PartyIf you like any of the music mentioned here, you're in for a treat. Chunklet.com posted two complete Knodel EPs for free download which is probably more music than you've heard from the band previously. Their albums The White Hole and Dawn of the Butterfly were pretty hard to find as of late, and these EPs are obscure to the point of Google not seemingly knowing much about them.

Some of the songs in this download were rerecorded for other releases, but their cover of Run DMC's "Tricky" was not. So you'll want this, obviously.

Also good for you Man or Astro-Man fans is this feature on A Spectrum of Finite Scale, a rare tour-only companion album to the similarly named A Spectrum of Infinite Scale. The idea was that it had the members of the band playing on tracks alone or in pairs, plus some of the other members of the organization (like the merch fellow) contributed. The great thing about this blog post is that it hammers down who played on it, including Shannon Wright. It's a good read if you're into this band and its related projects, and you should be.

Nintendo Wii Downloads This Week

WiiSuper Adventure IslandThis week's WiiWare offering is FAST - Racing League. It's $10/1,000 points, and is not F-Zero but is sort of F-Zero.

The Virtual Console has Super Adventure Island from the Super NES for $8/800 points. The timing is pretty great, really, as the mascot of Hudson (Takahashi) is leaving the company tomorrow.

Nintendo DSi Downloads This Week

Nintendo DSValet Parking 1989This week's batch: B Team - Episode 1: Dust & Steel, Valet Parking 1989, and House M.D. - Globetrotting. Each is $8-$10 and can be yours... if you have a DSi. As weeks go, this seems to be one of the more interesting with some bizarrely interesting licenses or almost-licenses. I mean, Valet Parking?
